Review: Supernatural The Complete 4th Season DVD

supernatural-5-01-1.jpg

I have been a fan of Supernatural since episode one of the first season.  I began to watch because of Jensen Ackles, who I have always been a fan of. Now here we are waiting for season five to start, and if word is correct, this may be the last season. We’ll know more as the season goes on! The DVD boxset for the fourth season hit store shelves this week, and contained on set are all of the episodes with season four. This includes extended and unaired scenes that didn’t quite the original cut when the episodes aired on CW. There are also more special features - a gag reel among them. The off-camera antics of these Ackles and Padalecki are something to watch, and they always earn a laugh or two.

Supernatural has been compared to The X-Files, only for a younger generation. Week after week, the Winchester boys go after all that is scary and unexplained. Everything from strange creatures, demons, ghosts, and in this season - angels. Season four of Supernatural dealt with Dean’s return from Hell. Apparently, he spent a good forty years down in hell, while on Earth it was only a few months that passed. He did unexplainable things while in hell, but an angel and God rescued him from those depths. For what purpose though? With this season, we get to see that, and the release is just in time for the premiere of the fifth season on September 10th.

This year, Supernatural will not only go up against Grey’s Anatomy in its time slot, but Fox has moved Fringe to the same Thursday night time slot. This will definitely make it difficult to decide what to watch in that time slot! You can head out to stores today to pick up your copy of The Complete Fourth Season of Supernatural. What do you think of the series?

It is that time of year where everyone is getting into the holiday spirit. Television even takes a bit of a break right around now, so those stars can go and celebrate with their own families. Supernatural is currently on a hiatus on the CW, but the series will be back in January.

Jared Padalecki, Sam Winchester on the series, was seen in Los Angeles yesterday at an a holiday event for Children’s Boutique Milkshop.com. Not only will he be seen in new episodes of Supernatural in the new year, but he will take to the big screen in Friday the 13th, the new revamp of the story of Jason. TV.com: Heaven and Hell - Dean and Sam figure out why Castiel and Uriel want Anna dead. Alastair and his minions try to track down Sam, Dean and Anna.

-

Recap & Review: Last week, Sam and Dean find a young woman named Anna that can overhear the words of angels. Castial and Uriel arrive, and they want her dead. This week picsk up right where last week left off. The boys want to know why they want to kill her though. They fight in a battle where the angels go after the boys and Ruby. The angels win, and they go after Anna. However, we see a flash of light and the angels are soon gone. Anna says she sent them away. She doesn’t even know how she did.

Now the boys know why the angels want her dead. She has some special power. Anna has no idea why she must die. Apparently, she had issues when she was a child with her birth father. To find out more, the boys take her to Pamela, and when she puts Anna chaos comes. When she wakes up, she tells them she is also an angel. She fell from earth, and slowly forgot that she was once an angel. They need to find her grace which she removed. Sam has an idea on where to find it though. The brothers, Anna and Ruby do head off to find her grace, but when they arrive she discovers it has been stolen by someone else.

Anna overhears the angels speaking again, and this time the angels have a warning for Dean. If he doesn’t turn Anna over to them, they will send him back to hell. Anna does talk to Dean alone, and she tells him he needs to forgive himself for what he did in hell. There moment goes on, and we see back of the car seat sex reminicent of the scene from Titanic, hand on fogged up glass and all. Deals come up. Ruby tries to make one for Alastair, and Uriel tries to make one with Dean.  Ruby’s deal doesn’t go so well as Alastair takes her hostage. Dean is forced to give Anna to Castiel and Uriel, but she goes almost willingly. Something happens, and we see a flash of light that destroys Alastair. Anna turns into an angel. Sam’s idea was to bring everyone together.

Before the episode ends, Dean tells Sam more about his time in hell. We learn that he spent forty years in hell. The first thirty were spent on the rack, but then he took the chance to get off of it, and put other souls on it. This is what he did until he was freed by the angels. This is another series wrapping up until after the holidays. Something tells me we really haven’t seen the last of Anna. This put the series on a good note. I didn’t mind the return to the angel line because they dealt with it in such an interesting way. What did you think of this week’s episode of Supernatural? For your daily tv listings, check here .

Supernatural Episode 4-9

sn409-0001.jpg

TV.com: I Know What You Did Last Summer - Sam, Dean, and Ruby look for Anna who hears the voices of angels. When Ruby seemingly betrays the brothers and leaves with Anna, Sam enlightens Dean on how Ruby saved Sam’s life while Dean was in Hell.

-

Recap & Review: This week, we see the return of the Angels and Ruby as a young woman can hear the voices of angels. The episode opens with a young woman in a hospital talking to a psychiatrist. This woman knows the end of the world is coming because she is told it is. She can also see demons, so when one comes to kill her she is able to get away.  Ruby comes to the brothers about this girl named Anna.

Demons have been ordered to bring her in alive, so Ruby thought the brothers would want to find her first. Sam latches onto the case, and they go to the hospital she escaped from. They are told she saw demons, so this puts even more interest into finding her, especially after Sam and Dean find her parents dead. They find the girl, and she knows them immediately. She had heard about them while listening in to the angels. The first time she heard the angels is the day Dean was released from hell.

Ruby arrives on scene to warn them about a demon coming. He arrives not long after that, and he fights the brothers. Turns out he knew Dean in hell.  The Winchesters get away though, but not without some injuries. They patch themselves up. Ruby has the girl. During this episode, Sam also reveals to Dean what his life was like while Dean was in hell. Ruby saved his life, and we are shown just what she did six months prior.

We see her capture Sam. She is meant to kill him, but instead she kills the demon with her. She is now a fugitive. However, he makes her take on the body of a Jane Doe to live. After she does this, she begins to teach him how to control and use his power. We also see Ruby and Sam have a little one on one action. Something that Dean didn’t want to hear about. Sam says that she saved him. He pulls her out of his funk following Dean’s trip to hell.

Back in the present, Ruby possesses another body to tell Sam and Dean where to find Anna. They go there, and make it in time. They only have enough time to tell Anna about her parent’s death before demons arrive. However, it isn’t demons that arrive. Castiel arrives and he wants Anna. She needs to be killed, and this is where we are left hanging til next week.  I was concerned about the return of the angel story line, but they did this in a way that made it work for me.  Next week looks to be action packed. The flash back to Sam’s time while Dean was gone was also gone. Sam Winchester sex is never a bad thing! It is always the quiet ones you need to worry about. TV.com: Wishful Thinking - The Winchesters investigate a town wishing well that really grants wishes… at a terrible cost.

-

Recap & Review: This week we find a town where all your wishes can come true. The episode opens up with a woman being haunted by what appears to be a ghost that haunts a women’s shower room. When Sam tells Dean of the case, he is immediately interested in it. They head to the town, and Sam interviews the woman from the shower. She tells him a very polite ghost was responsible.

Another man sights Bigfoot, and on the front of the news paper, another man wins the lottery. Sam and Dean try to find the bigfoot first, but as it turns out it is really a giant teddy bear owned by a little girl. However, the little girl tells them how she got the teddy bear. She wished for him at the wishing well. Her parents are also gone because her mom wished to go to Bali. This all starts to mesh for the brothers the more they find out.

The wishing well is located in a Chinese food restaurant, and the brothers close down the restaurant posing as health department personnel. Dean does try to get Sam to make a wish to try it out, but he isn’t too willing to do that. Once the water is drained, they find a strange looking coin at the bottom. As Dean finds out first hand, the wishes end up going bad. In a switch, Dean is the one to do the research on this case. They need to get rid of the coin, or the wishes will keep going bad. The teddy bear can’t even kill himself.

The brothers think they found the source of the coin, A couple that just got engaged. The Winchesters go to their house, and it turns out the man is a coin collector. The brothers tell him he needs to take back the wish. He isn’t willing, but they decide to kidnap him. When they reach the restaurant, the man is about to go inside when a lightning strike hits Sam. The man’s girlfriend wished for Sam to die. However, this is when the man sees he has to take back the coin. Once he does, all the wishes are void.

This episode was one of the weakest episodes for this series this season. The start was slow and unfocused, and the episode never really picked up any speed for me. Sad to say it had me wishing it was over. This was a weak point in this series for me. What did you think of this week’s episode of Supernatural? Did you agree? Supernatural Episode 4-7

sn407-0002.jpg

TV.com:  It’s the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester - Sam and Dean meet Castiel and his fellow angel Uriel, who warn the brothers to avoid intervening in a town where a witch is attempting to summon the demon Samhain, opening one of the Seals.

-

Recap & Review: This week, Supernatural returns to the plot for this season with Castiel and Dean’s return from hell. The past few weeks, the focus has been elsewhere. The series, in many ways, returns to its roots, and I did enjoy that. Simple and easy. The brothers had a case to fight, and that was it. No angels or demons. No mysterious powers that Sam has. This week, Halloween is a focus of the series, and the episode starts with a mother bringing home candy for the day. The woman’s husband eats some of it, and he swallows four razor blades. He dies almost instantly.

This brings in Sam and Dean on the case. The next strange death that happens is at a party where a girl bobs for apples. In the process, the water heats up and she drowns. Sam figures out what is happening. Another demon is about to be unleashed. One more death and Samhain will be raised from hell. The brothers need to find the witch responsible, and they believe that they do that. However, this is when they see Castiel and another angel. Unless Samhain is stopped, another seal will be broken. In order to stop, the angels plan to destroy the town and they need Dean and Sam out of it before they can do that. However, Dean convinces the angels that he and Sam can do it.

Sam thinks they found the wrong person though. The witch might be the teacher they met at the school. That night, they find him in the middle of spell, and they kill him. However, they were right in the first place. The witch was the girl. In fact, both of them were witches, and now with the one dead he is the final sacrifice. The girl is able to release Samhain with the use of a spell. Once he rises, he kills the girl, but when Sam hides him and Dean with the use of blood masks, he leaves them both alone. Their next stop is the cemetery, and Sam wants to use his powers. Dean tells him not to though because the angels wouldn’t want him too.

At the cemetery, the demon locks in a group of teens in tomb where the dead comes to life. All very thriller like, but these aren’t looking to dance down dark streets. Dean stays behind to fight them, and Sam goes off to fight Samhain. He first tries to use the knife, but when this doesn’t work for him, he uses his powers. He rids the body of the demon, but at what cost. One of the angels comes to visit him, and he is angry that Sam used his powers to deal with Samhain. He also reminds him that it is the anniversary of his mother’s death. The angel threatens Sam on continued use of his powers. Castiel also appears to Dean, and he learns the angels had been ordered to follow anything Dean said as a test. A test he passes. The first of many he will face.

Even with the return of the angel and hell plotline, this series stuck to what made it great. The brothers working together to destroy a demon. They do this successfully, but it still fit with the plot. This series is different than last year. It has more of what made me love the show to begin with. Next week, we see wishville where everyone gets a wish! To check out what’s hot on TV daily, go here .

Supernatural Episode 4-6

supernatural-645-large.jpg

TV.com: Yellow Fever - Sam and Dean investigate the mysterious deaths of several men who seemingly died of fright. Dean becomes infected with it starting as anxiety then leading to a full-blown terror which ends in death. Sam and Bobby race against time to save Dean.

-

Recap & Review: Last week’s episode took us back to the show’s roots. A case these two need to solve. No heaven or hell. No powers. No angels. Just a demon and the need to kill it. I think this series needed that because with all of the things they have going on the basics of this series were getting lost along the way. I think last week’s episode pulled them back to reality a little. This week’s episode has a slow weird start. The brothers are already at the morgue looking at a man’s body. He supposedly died of a heart attack. Sam and Dean start to investigate though, and they don’t think it was really a heart attack. Three men died of what appeared to be heart attacks all around the same time. This points to another demon of some sort.

After Sam and Dean interview one man, Dean begins to act strangely, and the EMF detector starts to go off soon after. It appears Dean has a problem on his hands. Sam calls Bobby, and it turns out Dean is suffering from ghost sickness. Dean has 24 hours to find their ghost and kill it, or Dean will die. They think it may be the wife of the first man that died. However, the wife was cremated, so it is another ghost. They do start to search for it, and it appears that they find it. A man. Dean is still dealing with ghost sickness, and we get to see Dean unlike we have ever seen him before. Timid and afraid of every single thing. This is definitely a new Dean. They try to find out more about the ghost, a man that died twenty years earlier. However, the deputy has no idea about him, and the sheriff is home sick. It appears he is also suffering from ghost sickness.

Sam and Dean go to interview the brother of their ghost, and they learn about him and how he died. The man thought Luther killed his wife. However, the brother said Luther couldn’t kill a fly. They need to burn his remains, but with the way he died that will be nearly impossible. Then Dean decides he is done with hunting. He walks away from Sam, but he is chased by a little demon dog from hell. Sam finds him with about four hours left of his life, and Dean hallucinates that Sam is possessed by a demon. Sam and Bobby come up with a plan to get rid of the ghost since they can’t destroy its remains. They need to scare the ghost to death. They go to do that while leaving Dean to wait. He keeps hearing and seeing things during this time. The sheriff shows up, and these two are both sick. The two fight, and Dean watches as the sheriff’s heart gives out right in front of him.

Luther won’t come out to Sam this time. He then decides he needs to make the ghost angry. This causes Luther to appear, and he fights Sam. While this is happening, Dean has a visit from Lilith. She disappears at the same time Luther does. Sam and Bobby are successful. Dean has an issue though. He thinks Sam is possessed by a demon. At the end of the episode, there is an outtake from the shooting of this episode where we see Jensen Ackles lipsync to what is said to be his favorite song, Eye of the Tiger. A hilarious moment! This episode once again takes us back to our roots with this show. Yes, there was some talk of hell and demons, but it was a simple case that once again needed solving. I really am enjoying this season of Supernatural. What did you think of this episode? Check Whats Hot on TV for daily listings.

Supernatural Episode 4-5

sn405-0002.jpg

TV.com: Monster Movie - Sam and Dean face off against a shapeshifter with a serious liking for ’30s horror movies.

-

Recap & Review: This week, we have a special episode of Supernatural that is shown entirely in black and white. This episode is a tribute to classic horror movies. Something a bit different and out of the norm for the series, but Halloween is right around the corner.  The brothers are off to solve a new case after a body is found which appears to have been killed by a vampire. This one is a basic case. At least that is what Dean thinks it is. They arrive on scene, and start to work on the case with the local police. The sheriff shows them the body of a young woman with bite marks on her neck. The two then start to investigate. They interview the man that says he saw the incident, and after this they decide that the case really isn’t a case. They might leave town. Before they do though, Dean has his eye on a woman at the bar, but she won’t let him have her that easily, even if he says he is a born again virgin after his time in hell. This needs to be fixed quick.

However, it looks like they might have a case after all. A werewolf attacks a young couple on lover’s lane. The boys have a reason to stay around.   Staying around might help Dean get lucky, but there is more trouble before that happens. A mummy rises from the dead to kill a museum security guard, and when Dean is late to meet his date, the vampire makes an appearance and tries to kill her. Dean fights him instead. He also rips off his ear. Dean thinks they are dealing with a shape shifter. Sam finally figures out this shape shifter is trying to reenact classic horror movies. The girl thinks Ed might be the one involved. He just arrived in town a month before, and he works at the local movie theater.

Sam goes after Ed, and he leaves Dean with the girl. These two share a moment until one of the other waitresses shows up and interrupts things. Sam does find Ed, but he isn’t the one they needed to find. The shape shifter is actually the other waitress, and she has taken it upon herself to drug Dean and his date before completely knocking him out. The shape shifter takes Dean hostage, changing back into Dracula. His plan is to shock Dean to death and take the girl. A pizza delivery interrupts this from happening though.  He goes back down to the girl, and he shares a moment with her which tells us about his life as a shape shifter. The girl doesn’t fall for it though.

Sam arrives just in time to let Dean out, and this leads to the final battle between the shape shifter and the boys. The girl is the one to save the day as she shoots Dracula with silver bullets. This kills him.  Another case solved. This is an episode that once again goes to the roots of the Winchester brothers. A return in time to their earlier episodes from season one where they had a simple case to solved. This time around, the case was fun and the black and white look added something to it. We had the cheesy dialogue and fun that these types of movies are known for, and it was a solid episode. One I enjoyed. What did you think of this week’s episode of Supernatural? Review: Supernatural Episode 4-4

sn404__001.jpg

TV.com: Metamorphosis - Sam and Dean find Jack who is changing into a rugaru, a flesh-eating demon that preys on humans. Sam and Dean have a disagreement on how to deal with Jack.

-

Review: On last week’s episode, Dean went back in time and learned more about his parents. Momma Winchester shocked us all by turning out to be from a family of hunters. She sold her child’s soul to have John Winchester brought back to life. Dean learned that there was no way he could stop the event from happening at all. When he returned, Sam was mysteriously missing. Dean’s angel needs to know what the yellow eyed demon has in store for the world. He will use Dean and Sam to find out that information. This week, we find Sam interrogating a man about Lilith’s location with Ruby. The man angers Sam, and we see him use his power to rid the man of the demon inside him.

Dean shows up and he gets into it with both Sam, and the new Ruby when he finds out Sam is now working with her. Dean starts to pack up and leave, but Sam tries to stop him. Dean tells Sam that his angel told him Sam was going down a dark path and must be stopped. Dean needed to stop him because it was what God wanted. This seems to get through to Sam, and he goes with Dean on their next case. Meanwhile, we meet Jack, who appears to be some kind of shape shifter. At least that is what it looks like at first. The two brothers show up on scene, and Sam also tells Dean he knew about the demon blood inside him. With the Winchester’s outside, we see Jack items from refrigerator.

They return to their hotel, and they meet a man that they knew as a child. Another hunter. Travis tells them about what Jack is. Once he eats human flesh, he will transform into a monster. While he tells the brothers this, we see Jack fighting the urge for human flesh. As always, we see Sam doing research. He learns more about the gene Jack has, and he tries to talk Travis and Dean into talking to Jack before trying to kill him. Travis won’t listen to him, but Sam makes it clear they won’t kill the man until it becomes absolutely necessary. Jack is getting to that point already. He nearly tries to attack his wife. On the way to see him, Sam and Dean end up talking, and the conversation turns into an argument. They finally arrive at Jack’s home, and they tell him about his condition. He doesn’t appear to believe them. He kicks them off his property.

He leaves home as well, and the boys follow him. Jack is able to resist the urge, and he returns home to his wife. However, Travis is there waiting for him, and he takes him. We soon see Jack handcuffed to a chair, and Travis looks ready to kill. He plans to kill both Travis and his wife because she is pregnant. This angers Jack, and he is able to break free. This also causes him to stop fighting the urge. He eats Travis’ human flesh. He goes towards his wife, but only to release her. The brothers arrive at Jack’s house, and find Travis dead only moments before Jack attacks them. They take care of Jack, and as they drive away Sam makes the decision to stop using his powers. We will have to wait and see how long that lasts.

This was a decent episode of the series. More of the focus was on Sam this week, which was good after not seeing him at all last week. The angel was mysteriously absent though. This reminded me of one of the earlier episodes of the series from season one. There wasn’t much plot to those other than the demon that needed to be killed. That was the case here. What did you think of this week’s episode of Supernatural?
