Changes Are Coming To Grey’s Anatomy

326e03def17fde53af8f0ca1ec866577.jpg

As we all know I’m a big fan of Grey’s Anatomy, and I’m waiting to see what will happen when the series returns later this month with season six. However, we’re learning there are some big changes in store with the series. All new cast coming in, a merger between Seattle Grace and Mercy West, Meredith taking a bit of a break, and word has it Katherine Heigl will even be taking a break from the series for about five episodes this season to go off and film another movie.

Everyone was wondering if we had seen the last of Izzie at the end of last season, but we quickly learned Heigl was sticking around while T.R. Knight was indeed leaving the series. No more George! There are some big happenings to come though. Derek will finally get some air time that doesn’t involve his relationship with Meredith, Owen and Cristina will continue on, and yes even Mark and Lexie are still together. Grey’s Anatomy returns to ABC on September 24th. What do you think? Are you ready for more from Seattle Grace?

T.R. Knight Wants Out At Grey’s Anatomy

tr-knight-mark-cornelsen-benjamin-button-04.jpg

Another cast member wants to leave Grey’s Anatomy. It is being reported by Entertainment Weekly that T.R. Knight has asked ABC and the people behind Grey’s Anatomy to let him out of his contract. This comes only a day after rumors started to fly that T.R. had actually walked off the set during filming and quit the show.

A representative immediately denied those claims, but it appears that there is some truth to them after all. T.R. Knight really hasn’t had much to do this season with his character George, and he is starting to feel it is time for him to move on and do other things. A network representative has not yet responded to these latest rumors.

This is a developing story! T.R. was seen out in Hollywood last night with his boyfriend at the premiere for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I’ll keep you posted on any further developments.

McDreamy Is Top TV Hunk

patrick_dempsey_8.jpg

This is probably no big surprise here, but Patrick Dempsey has been picked by AOL to top their list of top television hunks. Patrick Dempsey is on Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. Derek Shephard. I think it is his hair that wins everyone over. It is just so perfect.

Grey’s Anatomy has been raising some eyebrows lately with its latest story line that brought Jeffrey Dean Morgan back to the show as Denny. Word has it that Denny will be sticking around until at least February as the series explores the romance between Denny and Izzie. Apparently, the series can’t stand a lesbian romance, but they will let someone sex up a dead guy.

As for Dempsey, he narrowly beat out George Clooney for the top spot. Josh Holloway from Lost came in third place. Other popular names on the list include Smallville’s Tom Welling, ER’s John Stamos and Friday Night Light’s Taylor Kitsch. Check out the full list after the jump. Did your favorites make the cut?

Grey’s Anatomy Episode 5-11

greys5-11.jpg

TV.com: All By Myself - Cristina is awarded the first solo surgery among the residents, but she has to relinquish it and choose her replacement; Mark performs a cutting-edge procedure to restore a patient’s speech, impressing Lexie in the process; and Callie can’t figure out if Sadie (Melissa George) is flirting with her or just being friendly.

-

Recap & Review: Grey’s Anatomy is back after a week off for the Thanksgiving holiday, and we just jump right back into things as the attendings need to figure out which resident gets their shot at a solo surgery. The logical choice is of course Yang, but she is on suspension. They pick her anyway, and they leave the decision of who gets the first solo surgery up to her.

This leads everyone else trying to get on her good side and coming to her with why they think they should get the solo surgery.  Izzie thinks she doesn’t have a shot at it because it will go to Meredith, but Yang is taking her choice very seriously. When pushes comes to shove, she finally makes a choice. She chooses Karev because he made the best case for the surgery. Once he knows it is him, he goes to look for Izzie, and he confesses that he is in love with her.

They do go on with their day with two cases that come into hospital. One is a car accident with two teen girls who can’t seem to stop fighting, and the other is a woman who is going under for a procedure that might restore her voice. The girls seem to be the more pressing of the two as the older girl seems to suffer from a brain fracture.

In fact, she codes while she is being tested.  This changes the younger girl’s tune. She doesn’t want her sister having heard the last words from her being ‘I hope you die.’ She doesn’t make it though. During her surgery, something goes wrong and the girl goes brain dead.  Dr. Dixon pushes the family to give up her organs. Meredith helps the young girl accept her sister would forgive for what she said if she was still coherent and alive. However, the miracle happens in the other case as the woman is given the gift of speech.

As with any episode, the focus isn’t on the patients, but on the lives of the staff. Izzie is still having an affair with a dead guy. Sadie finally tells Lexie Sloan has the hots for her, and we see Owen and Yang move forward on their own relationship. Not only that, but we see Callie wonder if Sadie is hitting on her or not. This one is perplexing to me because they fired Brooke Smith because the lesbian line wasn’t working. Now they have Sadie flirting with Callie? Something is wrong here. Very wrong.

Not only is there something wrong here with that, but the Izzie and Denny line has reached laughable with me. I liked it at first, but as soon as she started having a lot of great sex with someone who isn’t even there I started having a small problem with the plot. Hopefully, there ends up being some good explanation for what is happening, but I think people around Izzie are starting to think she has lost it. I’m starting to agree with them. Grey’s Anatomy Episode 5-8

greys508.jpg

TV.com: These Ties That Bind: Meredith’s old friend Sadie (Melissa George) becomes an intern at Seattle Grace, but Meredith’s other friends aren’t exactly welcoming; new surgeon Virginia Dixon (Mary McDonnell) brings rules and order to the OR; and Lexie leads the interns in secretive, unorthodox surgical-training sessions.

-

Recap & Review: Things are certainly changing at Grey’s Anatomy. Last week, Brooke Smith was fired because her storyline wasn’t going as hoped. Earlier this week, it was announced that Kevin McKidd would be bumped up to full cast member as Owen Hunt. Now we have two new people coming in. Melissa George as intern that has  ties to Meredith and a new doctor played by Mary McDonnell. Things are definitely shaking up at Grey’s Anatomy. Will the changes improve the show? Only time will tell.

This week’s episode opens with Yang coming in and telling Meredith that Hahn is gone. She has left Seattle Grace. She kicks Derek out of bed in the process. However, it is not long we see her kicked out as well as an old friend of Meredith’s arrives at her door. She is the newest Seattle Grace intern, and this is her first day. She arrives at the hospital with everyone else, and it is clear Cristina and Derek don’t like the new arrival. Sadie is Meredith’s old person. Cristina feels threatened.

At the hospital, a man somehow impaled on himself comes in, and everyone works on him, while a new heart surgeon also arrives. This one is a bit different though. Izzie is still on the case, and she is still seeing Denny as well. She does her best to ignore him though. The man getting the heart doesn’t want the heart though. In fact, he wants the donor heart in his chest now also removed. Denny has his own comments on this.

The new doctor, Virginia Dixon, has her own tough love to give. The case interests Izzie though because  the man thinks he is haunted. She feels haunted herself. She even thinks Denny is bringing heart transplant cases to her. Something Denny laughs at in his own way. Denny stays with her, and he tells her that he is indeed real. Something she is making herself not believe. He even tries to get her to touch him, but she won’t do it. The man’s donor heart is removed, and miraculously his own heart begins to beat.

As for the other case, the man needs a new leg after being crushed in the garbage truck, and this task falls to Callie. She is trying to deal with Hahn’s departure. Hahn didn’t even say good-bye to her before she left. Ouch. Kind of cold there, huh? That’s how the writer’s wrote it though. The man is against surgery though, even if he is bleeding to death. However, he finally changes his mind. He dies during the operation though. This is what sets Callie off, and she breaks down. Yang and Sloan kick everyone else of the room. When no one moves, Hunt speaks up. The three end up at Joe’s bar after Yang figures out what the interns are doing. When Hunt leaves, Yang follows and these two have a moment together.

The ending of this episode might be what keeps people talking the week ahead though. Izzie asks Alex to burn Denny’s sweater, thinking it will free his soul. However, it doesn’t work. He shows up in her bedroom, and she finally touches him. He is real. Real to her, but real nonetheless. We know Alex can’t see him, or he would have said something.  The couple is reunited though, and it looks like Denny is sticking around for another week at least.  This is one of the better episodes of Grey’s this season. The dialogue at points had me laughing out loud, and the scenes with Izzie and Denny had me near tears. This is the Grey’s I fell in love with. Nice to see it back. Isaiah Washington Talks Grey’s Anatomy

isaiah-washington1.jpg

Does anyone else remember Dr. Burke from Grey’s Anatomy? The character disappeared at the end of season three when he and Cristina did not get married. Now the actor is speaking out on the latest Grey’s Anatomy firing, that of Brooke Smith. News of that broke last Monday morning when the series announced that her character of Erica Hahn would only appear in one more episode. That episode aired last Thursday.

Now Isaiah has told US Magazine that this move was harsh. He is a fan of the actress, and he says her treatment is very interesting. Grey’s Anatomy creator Shondra Rimes has released a statement saying that the move wasn’t because of Hahn’s story line. Isaiah has a very different outlook on the matter.

Now that I see what they’re doing to a show that I love and I care about, I think it’s disgusting. The fact that Shonda has been put in this position is extremely unfair. It’s unfortunate because it was probably, at the time, the most progressive show on television. Now I see it [being] systematically torn apart.

What do you think? Is Grey’s Anatomy in danger? Are you happy with the changes that have been made? Was Brooke Smith let go because her character was gay?For more on Grey’s Anatomy, check SirLinksALot .

Katherine Heigl Shows Some Animal Love

Katherine Heigl has been seen out and about quite a lot this weekend. First, pictures popped up of her having lunch with hubby Josh Kelley. She was seen wiping his mouth for him. She also headed out with her mom to the Villalobos Rescue Center where she is seen visiting with tigers and other wild animals.

She is an animal lover at heart. Her character on Grey’s Anatomy, Izzie Stevens, showed her own animal love in a recent episode when she refused to take part in a skills lesson where pigs were used. She walked right out of the room, refusing to take part. Check out some pictures of Heigl out this weekend below, thanks to Faded Youth Blog .

Grey’s Anatomy Episode 5-7

16.jpg

TV.com: Rise Up - The Chief tells the residents that one of them will get a solo surgery, and a competitive frenzy ensues; Derek asks Bailey for advice when he feels that Cristina is coming between him and Meredith; Erica discovers a shocking connection between one of her residents and a longtime patient.

-

Recap & Review: This week was a hectic week behind the scenes of Grey’s Anatomy. As was reported earlier this week, the actress behind Erica Hahn was let go from Grey’s Anatomy this week, and this episode would be her last. Grey’s Anatomy is reworking some things, including removing the lesbian storyline and changing the sexual orientation of their new cast addition of Melissa George. She will make her entrance sometime during this month’s sweeps period.

This week’s episode focuses on Izzie and the events that happened at the end of season two. They have come back to haunt her. Hahn is working on a case that is important to her. A man who lost out on a heart, and as soon as Meredith reads the chart, Izzie knows this is the same man she stole the heart from for Denny. He is still alive, and he still needs a heart. Izzie and Meredith have been put on Hahn’s detail, just as everyone starts to work their best to get noticed for the first solo surgery by the interns.

While Izzie is moving forward with this case, she even sees Denny walk by the hospital room. She sees him once again in the operating room. When this happens, she leaves the room, and Erica Hahn finds out why Izzie is connected to this patient of hers. Once Hahn learns about the history of Denny and Izzie, she wants someone to pay for the heart that was stolen from her patient. She goes to Weber, but he isn’t willing to drag up the past. He tells Hahn her responsibility is to save her patient. Alex can’t even cheer Izzie up with the prospect of real cadavers to work on to prepare for their solo surgeries. She walks out on him because there are just too many dead people for her.

Somehow they get the patient to go through the procedure a second time. Izzie convinces him, and she takes the lead when they go in again. Throughout the procedure, she sees Denny there watching. They don’t talk, but she does see him repeatedly.  The patient is saved, and Izzie continues to see Denny. She eventually sees him at the end of her day in the locker room, and she tells him she needs to move on. We think he is gone after this, but she sees him again and this time he talks to her. A sad and touching moment. Another moment in this episode that stands out to me is one shared between Hunt and Yang. These two are moving forward towards something.

Meredith is in the process of reading her mother’s diaries full of medical cases. This is causing Derek problems because she and Yang call each other to talk about their findings. Derek even asks Mark Sloan to sleep with Yang to distract her. Sloan can’t get Cristina to bite though. She is too focused on her case, while Derek is focused on his as well. He operates on an elderly woman with Bailey. A woman that ends up dying. However, her husband isn’t ready to let her die. He starts CPR himself until Bailey takes over for him. Then Derek takes over until they can let her go.

By the end of the episode, we see Hahn ready to turn in Seattle Grace for the incident over her patient and Denny. However, Callie stands up to Erica, and this causes Hahn to walk off into the night. This will be the last we see of her character, and even though it was said by one Grey’s Anatomy actor this week, it was not an organic end for this character. It felt very open ended, and abrupt to me. The relationship between her and Callie was ended, but we will always have a what if factor. What did you think of this week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy? Was the exit of Erica Hahn dealt with properly for you? For your daily tv listings, check here .

Brooke Smith Kicked Out Of Seattle Grace

hahntorres.jpg

Yes, you heard right folks. News just broke today that Brooke Smith’s time on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy is coming to a quick end. She has been pulled from the series as her character Erica Hahn. Her last appearance on Grey’s Anatomy will happen on this week’s episode.

This is an abrupt move. The actress has been involved in a developing story line with Sara Ramirez’s character, Callie Torres. The two had been developing a romantic relationship, and the last couple of weeks this relationship had given us some of the better moments of this season. At least in my mind. The scenes with Torres and Bailey come immediately to mind.

No word on exactly why Erica Hahn was pulled now, but word from ABC is that they weren’t happy with the story line or the direction that Hahn. Does this mean Callie will go back to sleeping with Mark Sloan full time? What do you think of this abrupt change at Grey’s Anatomy?

Grey’s Anatomy Episode 5-6

013.jpg

TV.com: Life During Wartime - The chief gives Bailey new power and responsibility. He also gives her a very difficult surgical assignment: remove a girl’s inoperable tumor. Meanwhile, new trauma chief Owen (Kevin McKidd) challenges the attendings’ methods and the residents’ skills.

-

Recap & Review: Things are about to change drastically at Seattle Grace Hospital with the addition of a new doctor to the staff. Kevin McKidd officially joins the cast this week after an appearance that turned heads, especially Cristina’s. He is now on staff with Seattle Grace, and in this first appearance he is teaching the interns and residents how to save lives quickly by using pigs. There is a note at the start of the episode that says no animals were hurt in the process of this episode, but he does make you wonder. Yang continues to try to hide from him after the kiss they shared. Lexie is ignoring George, Hahn calls Callie her glasses, and Alex and Izzie are already having trouble in their one week relationship. Nothing is ever boring or easy when it comes to these doctors and their love lives. Oddly enough, the only ones truly happy right now are Derek and Meredith. Talk about a switch.

Once Izzie sees what Owen has done to the pigs, she walks out of the lesson. Owen doesn’t even show that he recognizes Cristina after they kiss. Izzie thinks Owen is a monster, and she tells Derek that he disgusts her. Yang is stuck with all of the pigs when there is a trauma call that comes in. Owen is already shaking things up, and he has barely been there a day. Meanwhile, Bailey is trying to do the impossible, operate on an inoperable tumor of a little girl. She brings Grey in on her team, and she gives Hahn no other choice than coming in. Hahn is having her own issues though because now she knows she is gay, but Callie isn’t so sure. She even sleeps with Sloan again to test a theory.

With the help of Anatomy Jane, Meredith comes up with a plan to operate. A plan that they all move forward to complete. They will remove five of her major organs. Meanwhile, Grey knows something is up with Chief, but he denies it. He can’t even look at her though. Could it be Anatomy Jane? She used to carry the doll with her at the hospital when she was a child. Is this reminding him of his past affair with her mother? Could be possible! As for Derek, he has issues with Owen’s tactics, but once again the Chief won’t listen. His focus is on the surgery of the little girl. Yang’s focus is on the pigs. Lexie has even named them, and one does end up crashing. This is not acceptable because Yang was left in charge, and she was told to keep them all alive. She ends up opening Wilbur.

The surgeries are never boring at Seattle Grace. All the operating rooms are busy. Bailey figures out a plan for the little girl, and Yang finds what the problem with the pig is. Izzie also stands up to Owen for God’s creatures. All are saved. Torres figures out that sex is amazing for her no matter who she sleeps with. However, Sloan tells her that with Erica not knowing Callie is sleeping with him. Once Owen is confronted by Shepherd and Sloan, he then returns to his pigs. They have all survived, and this is where Yang draws the line. He tells her to terminate them all, and she walks out. She finally ends up doing it though. The pigs would suffer needlessly. By the end of the episode, Torres has come clean with Eric about sleeping with Mark, Alex and Izzie have decided to go steady, and Meredith finds another box full of her mother’s diaries. How much can one woman write?

We can see just with this one episode that Owen is really set to shake things up. I think he is a great addition to the cast of Grey’s Anatomy. No one really likes him, so that adds conflict with the staff. This is something that adds spice to any series. Spice is something that has been lacking a bit when it comes this show, but they do seem to be headed in the right direction now. What did you think of this week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy? Don’t forget to check for what’s hot on tv daily here .
