Californication Picked Up For Season 4

californicationseason3.jpg

All the readers of this blog know I’m a huge fan of the Showtime series, Californication. We are only two episodes into season three, but we already know now that there will be a season four of the popular series. That decision was made based on the performance of the first episode. Ratings shot through the roof, and Showtime just couldn’t let this series go.

This season, Hank is dealing with his lady love being on the opposite side of the country while trying to raise his daughter and find a way to make money, whether that is selling his latest novel or working as a professor. Something that will most certainly pose some problems for the sex crazed author.

Californication airs on Sunday nights at 10pm on Showtime. What do you think? Are you ready for another season of the series already? Twelve more episodes of the series will hit Showtime in 2010. Check out the preview for the current season below. This season is full of new faces that will certainly make things interesting.

Californication Season 2 Finale

TV.com: La Petite Mort - Hank finishes his biography. Karen is given a job offer she can’t refuse resulting in Hank and Becca to make sacrifices.

-

Recap & Review: With this episode, season two of Californication comes to an end.  The good news is the series is up for awards at the Golden Globes. Both the series and David Duchovny were honored with nominations. The bad news is we will probably have to wait close to a year for new episodes when season three hits. This week, we pick up with Hank finishing Ashby’s biography. He spends one last moment with his friend, and we discover that yes he did die at the end of last week’s episode. Hank goes to his grave with a 40 in hand to pay his respects, and he finds Mia there to do the same. She is heading off on a book tour to promote the book. It seems Hank has finally accepted that the book is now hers.

We next see Karen, and she has some great news. She has been offered her dream job, and she is taking it. However, the job will take her to NYC. Hank doesn’t mind the move, until he finds out he isn’t invited. She tells him he needs to handle the pending birth of his child, and she also tells him Becca has been heartbroken by her boyfriend kissing another girl. Hank goes to see the boy with the intentions of kicking a little ass, but they end up talking again. In the love department, things aren’t well for Charlie either. He has left Marcy for Daisy, and Daisy doesn’t seem to be too happy either. When she brings someone home she ends up sleeping with him. Not only does Charlie try to get Marcy back, but he has now sunk low on the job train. He has gone from agent to car salesman, and Marcy doesn’t want him.

Sophia does give birth in this episode, and once the baby is out we see it is impossible that Hank is the father. This baby is black, and everyone is relieved. Karen and Hank once again end up back in bed, and she changes her mind about him coming to New York with her and Becca. It seems like everyone is happy until Becca’s boyfriend apologizes, and those two end up back together. Karen doesn’t want to separate the two, so Hank offers to stay behind with Becca in LA while Karen goes to NY. He makes a great speech that Karen says makes her love him even more.  She ends up going to New York alone, and we see a glimpse of what life with Becca and Hank will be like. These two should be able to keep each other in check. Hank has an opportunity to get laid, and he doesn’t even take it.

This season has had a lot of ups and down. Karen and Hank were on again and off again. Ashby threw some trouble into the mix, and I hated to see him die. Charlie’s life is a mess, and now with Hank and Becca on their own I am curious to see what will happen in season three. Have we seen the last of Karen? I hope not. These two really do belong together. I just hate having to wait so long to see what happens next. What do you think of this season finale and the season that was of Californication?

Californication Episode 2-11

TV.com: Blues from Laurel Canyon - Ashby throws a party for Mia for her book being published. Charlie wants a divorce. Becca is distraught after catching Damien two-timing on her.

-

Recap & Review: Only one episode of Californication left before this season is over for another year. Yes, fans of this series can breath easier knowing that this isn’t the end of the journey for Hank Moody. Showtime has renewed the series for a third series that will air next fall. Time will only tell what happens when the series returns. We know there are some changes happening next week. Spoilers suggest death and someone leaving. I think we might have seen the death on this episode, but we won’t get into that right now. Let’s talk about this week’s episode.

This week’s episode surrounded the release of Mia’s book. We know it isn’t her book, but it is now released, and the reviews are coming in. She shows up in Hank’s bedroom to tell him about the review of the book in the New York Times. They give it a great review. Ashby has ended things with Mia, but he still wants to throw her a party at his home for the release. This is where most of the action of the episode takes places this week.

Marcy does her best to avoid temptation, but with it being Ashby’s party, the alcohol and drugs are flowing. She seems to succeed. However, she gets some bad news during the party when Charlie outs his relationship with Daisy and asks Marcy for a divorce when Daisy takes another man to the party. Marcy doesn’t take this news too well. We don’t get to see much of that though because there is way too much going on. We do see a fight break out between them all before Hank uses Ashby’s shot gun method.

Becca is dealing with her first heartbreak as she goes to the party and catches her boyfriend kissing another man. Ashby takes lead on this one surprisingly before turning the teen over to Karen. Becca now knows men can’t be trusted. The Rolling Stone writer is also back, and she is making her own connections to the book. A connection that makes Hank the man Mia wrote about in the book. Hank and everyone else denies this though. Good thing Karen wasn’t in ear shot!

When everything dies down, Ashby’s one true love arrives at the party, and Hank talks her into seeing Ashby before she leaves. Hank goes to get the singer, and he is on his way down when something happens. He takes some drugs, and they appear to be bad. He collapses on the spot, and Hank isn’t able to revive him with his shot. Is Ashby dead?

There was a preview for next week that showed him alive, but we all know when it comes to shows and especially this one, this appearance could be in Hank’s mind. We’ll have to wait until next week to see what happens in the season finale. This series is ending on a strong note I think. Depending on what happens next week, we will have plenty to work with when season three rolls around next fall. What did you think of this week’s episode?

Californication Episode 2-10

72408_californication_-_ep_2x10_cu_isa_60_122_207lo.jpg

TV.com: In Utero - Hank reminisces his past with Karen. Charlie pleads with Daisy to move out.

-

Recap & Review: Californication is getting closer to winding down their season. The last episode of this season is set to air on December 14th, and we can tell we’re getting close to the end. At the end of last week’s episode, Karen found a mysterious lump in Hank’s groin air following a night of sex. These two are always on again and off again, so it is no surprise that right now they appear to be on again. After this mysterious lump is discovered, it becomes time to deal with it.

Karen is right there by his side in the doctor’s office while he waits to be checked out. She is there by his side when the doctor decides he wants to take a biopsy, and she remains by his side while he waits the results of the procedure. This is something that confuses their daughter Becca. She wants to know just what the heck is going on, but they decide not to tell her. This is nothing new. They probably don’t know what is going on between them either.

We do get a look into the past of these two though. While he is waiting about his future, Hank looks back at the start of his relationship with Karen. It appears these two didn’t start in the best of ways. They were both cheating on their significant others at the time, and this is when Karen discovers she is pregnant with Hank’s child. She discovers that the morning Kurt Cobain is found dead, which appears to be an important event in the lives of the both of them. They spend that one day going back and forth over what they should do about the child, and at the end of the day they end up together.

This is what Hank wants to happen now. Karen is still the woman he wants to be with. He wants her to be there the day he dies, and that is just how it is for him. He wants to do it right this time though, even after finding out that his new friend kissed his woman. This is something that causes him to chase after Ashby in Karen’s kitchen, but once that is done the two are fine. As is Hank. His results come back from the doctor, and all he needs is some antibiotics to take care of the problem.

We don’t see much of Charlie this week, but Daisy decides she is giving up porn. She wants the memory of Charlie being the last man she had sex with on screen. However, Charlie wants more than that. He wants her it looks like, and he is ignoring the fact that his wife is now coming home from rehab. This episode made Hank think, and it made him a little less invincible. It made him realize what is important in his life, and that is Karen and Becca. Will this be a positive change for him? I hope so. For me, it brought Hank back down to earth. What did you think of this episode of Californication?

Californication Episode 2-9

californication_-_ep_2x09_cu_isa_60_122_649lo.jpg

TV.com: La Ronde - Hank refuses an offer. Karen and Ashby go on a date. Charlie and Daisy get to know each other better.

-

Recap & Review: We know that season two is coming to close soon, and this means Hank will have something big happen to him. This is just a fact of life. This episode starts with a look at Marcy, Charlie’s wife. She is in rehab finally, and she is trying to make amends with her friends. Apparently, there was a waiter at the airport with some cocaine, and after a little make out session with him, the drugs became more important. Charlie didn’t want to hear about this though. Maybe there is a little guilt there over he sleeping with Daisy. It wouldn’t be his first affair though.

During the episode, we do see Charlie and Daisy get closer. She is helping out at Marcy’s salon, and when she has a date with someone else she leaves and then comes back to spend the night with Charlie watching Dirty Dancing. After the movie, these two talk, and we see them definitely get closer. By the end of the night, the two of them are dancing together. No Marcy in sight. No Marcy on Charlie’s mind. He actually looks happy here.  Even with it being wrong to cheat, I actually like these two together more than I like Marcy and Charlie together.

As for Hank, he is continuing to work on Ashny’s ex. He even asks her out like she told him too. However, when he tells Lew he is seeing her that night, Lew has a big problem it. It is Friday night, and that is date night. He doesn’t want Hank dating his ex. Hank goes anyway, and Lew decides to get a little revenge. He arranges a night out for him and Karen with a private concert at the Hollywood Bowl. A date of his own. However, when he tries to pursue more with her, she backs off from him.

The same happens with Hank and his own date. Janie and him go to an art show, and they even meet up with Sonja and her boyfriend. He even makes a pass for a little orgy, but Janie says no dice. She isn’t interested, and neither is Hank. However, Janie is interested in a little one on one with Hank. Shockingly, he shuts her down and he goes to find Karen. She’s just arriving from her own night out, but she won’t tell Hank where she had been. The two share a few words, and before we can even realize it the two of them are kissing. They fall into bed, and he tells her all about how he shut down this woman. However, something happens here. Karen finds a mysterious painful lump. This is where the episode ends.

So are Hank and Karen back together or are they doomed to just keep messing around for the rest of their lives? Never really together, but never really apart either. It is hard to know what will happen. There is no doubt the two of them have some type of connection to each other, and it is more than just the daughter the two of them share. Californication Episode 2-8

californication_-_ep_2x08_cu_isa_60_122_699lo.jpg

TV.com: Going Down and Out in Beverly Hills - Hank attempts to get Ashby to confess. Charlie gives in to temptation.

-

Recap & Review: This season of Californication is starting to wind down towards it conclusion. We have seen Hank try for happily ever after and fail, and now we have seen him return to his former habits. This week, he is continuing on his quest for more information on Lew Ashby’s one that got away. From the way she tells it, she ran away. Hank is trying his best to get information out of her, and he gets a few things before she shuts down and then her husband arrives home. He needs to hide in the pool house until he can leave, but this is where he meets Rosario the maid.

After a little pot and a lot of talk, these two end up having sex. In the process, he finds out something interesting. The husband is screwing the maid. This isn’t too surprising, but the maid wants out. On his way to leave, Hank bumps into the man and tells him he will tell his wife if he doesn’t stop screwing the maid. Thing is she already knows, and she won’t tell Hank anymore unless he asks her out.

The majority of this episode has its focus elsewhere though. The focus is on the new relationship between Mia and Lew. Becca tells Karen about it, and Karen is upset. She goes to Hank, but he reminds her that she even said dating an older man is a valid life experience. Her words have come back to haunt her. She decides to go straight to the source, and she confronts Lew. However, on the way out, she somehow trips down the stairs. Lew decides a little herbal healing is in order, and the two talk until he crosses the line and kisses her. We also find out that Karen still doesn’t know about Hank and Mia.

Meanwhile, Charlie has sent Marcy to her mother’s in Arizona to clean up. While she is gone, he gets closer to Daisy while he tries to find her work. Too close though as they start sleeping together. She wants to help him with his control issues. Trouble pops up as Marcy’s mother calls, and from the sound of things Marcy never arrived or even knew her daughter was coming. This will be one big problem in the week ahead!

A good episode for this series. I could see Lew going for Karen at some point long before this week. This could spell one huge event that will end this season in a few weeks time. What did you think of this week’s episode of Californication?

Californication Episode 2-7

TV.com: In a Lonely Place - Hank attempts to find a love interest for Becca’s teacher. Charlie uncovers Marcy’s secret which could have fatal effects on their finances.

-

Recap & Review: Last week, we saw the filming of Vagina Town and Charlie’s entrance into the porn world.  This week, he has more issues to deal with as Daisy’s manager comes looking for her with a contract in hand. It doesn’t matter that people steal clients all the time, or that the contract won’t hold up in court. The manager wants his girl back, ans Charlie isn’t too willing to give her up. He believes in her, and yes there is quite the chance that he has some feelings for her as well. Marcy even invited Daisy into bed when she finds the girl outside sleeping in her car.

We all know Marcy isn’t in the best state of mind. Her coke addiction is only getting worse, and when Charlie goes to pay off Daisy’s former manager with funds from their emergency money stash, he finds out just how bad her drug problem is. They have no emergency fund. She has used it all to buy drugs. This leads Charlie to give up his little sportscar, and he is sending Marcy to stay with her mother to straighten herself out.

As for Hank, he isn’t dealing with Karen once again ending their relationship. He’s reverted to his former ways, basically sleeping with any woman that strokes his ego. The latest woman to do that is Becca’s teacher at school. He meets her during a parent teacher conference, and once Karen is out of the picture, she approaches him to tell him just how much she loves his writing. This ends up with the two of them bed at her home.

This is a problem though. We learn why once Hank ventures downstairs to use the restroom. Becca’s teacher is also the mother of Becca’s boyfriend, Damien. He has a few not so kind words to say about Hank, and this leads Becca to stick up for dad and dump the boyfriend. Something that Hank tries to fix by visiting with him and giving him quite the nice gift, a guitar once owned by Kurt Cobain.

He received this as a gift from Lew in apology for Lew sleeping with Mia, even after Hank told him not to. Mia and Lew now have a little thing going. Apparently, Lew doesn’t see the fact that she is only a seventeen a problem. Both Mia and Lew see Hank being hypocritical because he has also slept with Mia. The difference there is Hank didn’t know she was only sixteen at the time. Lew does.

This was a good episode for the series. Mellow and not fast paced. We see some character development for Hank as his daughter teaches him about life and how it isn’t about right or wrong, but the consequences of your actions. A very important lesson to learn. What did you think if this week’s episode of Californication?

Californication Episode 2-6

TV.com: Coke Dick & The First Kick - Hank wants to find out more about Ashby, so he tries to find his lost love, Janie Jones. Charlie turns his home into the set of “Vaginatown”.

-

Recap & Review: Last week, we saw Hank try and forget Karen by having revenge sex, Charlie get Daisy a role in a new porn  film and invest a lot of money into and Karen try to move on with her own life. This week, Hank continues on with his work on Lew’s autobiography. Now, he is looking into the past of the man, and he wants to find the woman Lew left behind. That is where this episode opens up. Hank immediately causes a stir, and he is asked to leave. However, his exit is less than graceful as he falls on the way out.

He next has lunch with Charlie, who tells him all about his porn adventures. Charlie also tells him living at Lew’s is probably not the best idea. Hank doesn’t listen though, as he makes his way back to that very place. When he gets there, he doesn’t find Lew, but he does find Julian having sex. This is where we see Hank revert to a teenager. He takes a picture of Julian with his camera phone, and he even rushes over to Karen’s to show her that Julian is a jerk. This leads them to talk about Hank’s morality when open relationships come up. They disgust him, but Karen argues that prostitutes and giving oral sex to another woman do not.

Hank continues on with his day as he heads out to pick up Becca at school. This is where he finds Mia working with someone at Rolling Stone Magazine. He also finds Lew’s ex once again. Another meeting doesn’t go well. He heads back to Lew’s with his daughter, Mia and the interviewer from Rolling Stone. Sonja shows up, and Hank tells her about what he saw. The two also share a moment when she feels her baby move. A moment Karen ends up walking in on. We can expect that to happen. Once she takes Becca back home, Hank ends up sleeping with the Rolling Stone reporter. In the afterglow, she needs water, and Hank is the one to go for it.  This is when he catches Lew and Mia post afterglow.

Charlie ends up opening his house to the porn crew. They use his house to finish up Vaginatown. His wife comes home just in time to catch them in production. We can see her cocaine habit only getting worse, and this is where Charlie finally confronts her to stop her drug use. His wife does ruin things though by having too much coke with the male store. He can’t even get it up. They need another man quick, and Charlie decides to make his porn debut with Daisy. This one will probably come back to bite him!

This episode of Californication was a bit on the chaotic side. There is a lot packed into about 22 minutes of television, but somehow it works. Karen has moved back in importance, but she seems to pop up at all the wrong moments. This is something that is becoming far too predictable in this series. Other than that, I did find myself enjoying the continuing saga of Hank Moody. What did you think of this week’s episode of Californication?

Californication Episode 2-5

TV.com: Vaginatown - After being dumped by Karen, Hank dreams about sleeping with a popular cooking show host, Chloe Metz. Charlie helps Daisy by getting her a role in the porn film “Vaginatown”.

-

Recap & Review: Last week, Hank and Karen ended their happily ever after when Karen changed her mind about marrying him. This put Hank out on the street and looking for a new home. This week, Hank moves in with Lew, and after he mentions wanting to sleep with a television cooking host, Lew says he can make it happen. He knows people. After a few drinks that day, Hank thinks it is Wednesday and his day to pick up Becca. It isn’t though. This means Karen shows up, and the two have an awkward moment.

After he arrives home, he finds the tv cook in Lew’s kitchen, and this is where we see Hank go back to his old ways as he has sex with her. Once they are done, Chloe wants to tag along on their night out. Lew doesn’t want her, but she ends up tagging along anyway. Turns out she is even married, and to avoid her husband she stays with hank and Lew. Things get along for a bit until Chloe pisses off Lew and his female driver.

They drive off, but Hank has them go back because it wasn’t the gentleman thing to do. The two talk until her husband arrives, and after she is gone Hank calls to talk to her daughter. He ends up talking to Karen. She is in the middle of painting a picture of them. She obviously still loves him. It would be great if these two could make it work. The love is obviously there, but there is song out there - sometimes love just ain’t enough. The romance between Hank and Karen is a classic example of that.

As for Charlie, he is helping out his wife at her spa, and Daisy comes in. She has been blackballed by those she works with after last week’s episode. Charlie then starts to help her move on to bigger porn movies. He gets her a chance to meet the Spielberg of porn. At first, he doesn’t see Daisy as right for the role, and then when he does he lost his investors for the movie. This leads Charlie invest $100,000 to get the movie made. This doesn’t thrill his wife too much.

I knew with this episode we would see Hank slide back into his old ways without Karen. He is trying to get her out of his system, but something tells me that just won’t work for him. She is in his system, and no amount of sex is going to change that. Kind of sad. What did you think of this week’s episode of Californication?

Californication Episode 2-04

73494_californication_-_ep_2x04_cu_isa_61_122_227lo.jpg

TV.com: The Raw & the Cooked - Hank proposes to Karen right before a dinner party, to which Mia, Charlie, Marcy, Lew Ashby, Sonja and Julian are invited. Drugs and special circumstances turn the evening in an unexpected direction.

-

Recap & Review: When it comes to life, nothing that Hank does is planned or easy. That is what makes this series so good. It is messed up, and we get to see Hank deal with each and every problem that comes his way. This week, Hank finally decides to bite the bullet and propose to Karen. This is the next step to happily ever after. The two of them have decided to have a dinner party. Well, it looks like Karen has decided to have one, and Hank is being dragged into it and away from his Guitar Hero. In an impulsive moment, Hank gets down on one knee and proposes to Karen. His speech is real. It fits him and her. It wasn’t full of romance, but it was romantic in its own way. He wants to annoy the shit out of her for the rest of her life.

Once inside, the night begins. Mia is at the house, and Hank isn’t the only one wondering why she is there. I love the character, but I’m wondering how Mia still fits in things. She still has Hank’s book, but that can be handled quickly. The party begins. Becca has company. The boy she met at school shows up, and Charlie and his wife are out in the hall making out.  Apparently the couple dropped some Ecstacy. What happened to these two this season? They used to be the serious ones! The next couple to arrive is Sonja and Julian. These are new arrivals this season. Sonja and the girls hang out in the kitchen, oohing and aahing over Karen’s ring while Mia throws out some rude comments. The guys hang out in the living room with Becca playing Guitar Hero. The last couple to arrive is Ashby and his date for the night, Destiny.

The dinner seems to be mass chaos as it starts with Becca thanks Satan for dinner. This opens up a debate on Satan where Becca stands up and speaks out on her beliefs. She shuts up the man speaking out against her and the whole table. However, Julian has a shocker for everyone. He says that Sonja is pregnant, but it isn’t his child. Julian will raise the child as his own, but we soon find out that Hank could be the father of the baby. Mia is the one that does the mental math.  As Mia toasts, this is one fine mess.

A mess that only continues to grow as Hank finds people doing cocaine in Becca’s room. Ashby then appears to overdose, but not really. It is some kind of reaction that Hank fixes with a pen of medicine. He then takes Mia away from the party. Becca’s date is the next to leave. Once everyone leaves, Hank and Karen talk about his impending fatherhood. This might be the deal breaker to their happily ever after. His past once again has come back to bite Hank in the ass, and it will now be a part of his future. She gives him back his ring, and he leaves.  Becca tells him it was nice while it lasted. Looks like Hank is back on the market.

This series is one with ups and downs. How many out there believed Hank and Karen would really find their happily ever after this time around? If they did, the show would have no real meaning. I think we need to say good-bye to Mia, even though she was the catalyst for a lot of the drama in this episode.Charlie is also making me wonder. Maybe with Hank going back to his ways, the others around him will settle down. What did you think of this week’s episode of Californication?
