Review: Lost Season 5 Premiere

lostcastxlargebj0.jpg

One of the best series on television today has to be Lost. The series finally premiered its fifth season last night on ABC, and anybody that watched the episode last night know that it is now an all new ball game. The series has changed things in regards to the island. When Ben turned the wheel in the last episode of season, he started a process that opened a door between time. The island is now jumping back and forth in time, and those still on the island are along for the ride.

They jump into the past before they crashed on the island and destroyed the hatch to a time when they are already on the island. They are able to see people that have already died or left the island. Desmond and is still guarding over the hatch in one time, and big bad evil Ethan is still alive. Those that were on the island during the event are confused. It even looks like they don’t remember some things that have happened. Sawyer doesn’t seem to know Daniel at all at some points.

He is the only one that seems to understand just what the hell is going on with the island, but we all know getting people, meaning Sawyer, to listen is a task.  He is dealing with the fact that Kate and the others on the helicopter died when the freighter went down. That is what he thinks. We know differently. The Oceanic 6, plus a few, left the island, and Ben is currently trying to get them to return before all hell breaks loose. We don’t know what will happen, but it sounds bad whatever it is.

It could even mean the end of the world. Ben first get Jack on his side. Sayid goes to Hurley, and in the process he kills three men. One while trying to break Hurley out of the mental ward, and two more that attack the two of them. People put these deaths on Hurley’s shoulders. This makes him and Sayid both fugitives, and they spend the episode on the run. Sayid finally gets into Jack’s hands, but when Ben tries to make contact with Hurley the man is less than willing to work with Ben. He actually ends up turning himself into the police.

Kate is also dealing with issues after a lawyer comes to have blood and tests down on Aaron. This puts her on the run. Sun is also a changed woman when she visits with Kate. She is trying to make a deal with Charles Widmore. To me, Sun is probably the most changed character over this series. The Oceanic Six, and whoever else, left the island, need to return to it, but it seems that won’t be an easy task. We will have to see what happens next week. What did you think of the season premiere of Lost?

Sarah Connor Chronicles Fall Season Finale

259310.jpg

TV.com: Earthlings Welcome Here - Sarah’s continued obsession with the three dots leads her to a blogger with intimate knowledge of the symbol. Meanwhile, Riley and Cameron face off.

-

Recap & Review: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles comes to an end for 2008. This week’s episodes marks the finale for the fall season, and if the series hadn’t been picked up by Fox for more episodes, it may have been the end for the series. A not fitting end either. This ending point would have left so many unanswered questions. This week, we focus a bit on Riley and Sarah. We jump forward to the future to see how Riley came to know Jesse and come to the time she is in now.

Jesse found Riley on the streets of the future searching for food. She brought her along to the LA of 2007 because she was a pretty girl, and there really is no other reason. Jesse really isn’t her friend. Not even close. We see that during the episode, especially when Riley comes to her after she is kicked out of her foster home. When Riley says they should move in together, Jesse hit hers, and this raises questions from both John and Cameron.

The terminator is getting more curious about Riley, and she confronts the girl. She then goes to John suspicious. We do know Riley is from the future, but she seems at best an unwilling participant in Jesse’s plans. Her mission is to keep John away from Cameron. She isn’t succeeding much in this, but it is not an easy task. It is starting to seem that Riley has real feelings for John, and this is why has become increasinly uncomfortable with the mission she has been given.

As for Sarah, she continues her own journey to find the source of the three dots. This search for knowledge leads her to a UFO convention of all places, and while there she learns of a blogger that might have some information for her. She meets a woman while there who offers to lead her to the blogger she seeks. However, there is a twist here. The woman she spends a good part of this episode talking to is really the blogger she is looking for, and the woman is also a man. The man, Alan Park, has taken on the identity of a woman in order to hide from those out to kill him.

He knows too much about a special metal that is being used to create metal drones that fly in the skies. Some say these are alien in origin, but Sarah thinks it is the beginning of the metal used to create robots in the future. She tries to help the man remember more about the things he knows by taking him to a hypno-therapist, but those looking for him find him there and he is killed. Sarah is able to find the location by what she heard before. She goes there, and finds a man that tries to convince her that he is someone else. There is a gun battle with Sarah shot in the leg. She ends up killing the man, and before the episode ends we see once again these three important dots.

There was also more about Weaver in this episode, as we see her continue to work with her project of John Henry using Cromartie’s body. She and Ellison continue to work hand and hand, and he isn’t too convinced about the terminator having changed. This ends this fall of Terminator. To me this episode felt a bit off as a season ender. It didn’t pack as big a punch as most season enders though.

Perhaps that is because it isn’t a real season ender. The series will be back in February, so we will have more episodes before long. This series had its weak moments over the last few episodes, but this series is much stronger now. Next, we see the return of Kyle Reese. What did you think of this fall season finale of The Sarah Connor Chronicles? Are you already waiting for its return in February?

Californication Season 2 Finale

TV.com: La Petite Mort - Hank finishes his biography. Karen is given a job offer she can’t refuse resulting in Hank and Becca to make sacrifices.

-

Recap & Review: With this episode, season two of Californication comes to an end.  The good news is the series is up for awards at the Golden Globes. Both the series and David Duchovny were honored with nominations. The bad news is we will probably have to wait close to a year for new episodes when season three hits. This week, we pick up with Hank finishing Ashby’s biography. He spends one last moment with his friend, and we discover that yes he did die at the end of last week’s episode. Hank goes to his grave with a 40 in hand to pay his respects, and he finds Mia there to do the same. She is heading off on a book tour to promote the book. It seems Hank has finally accepted that the book is now hers.

We next see Karen, and she has some great news. She has been offered her dream job, and she is taking it. However, the job will take her to NYC. Hank doesn’t mind the move, until he finds out he isn’t invited. She tells him he needs to handle the pending birth of his child, and she also tells him Becca has been heartbroken by her boyfriend kissing another girl. Hank goes to see the boy with the intentions of kicking a little ass, but they end up talking again. In the love department, things aren’t well for Charlie either. He has left Marcy for Daisy, and Daisy doesn’t seem to be too happy either. When she brings someone home she ends up sleeping with him. Not only does Charlie try to get Marcy back, but he has now sunk low on the job train. He has gone from agent to car salesman, and Marcy doesn’t want him.

Sophia does give birth in this episode, and once the baby is out we see it is impossible that Hank is the father. This baby is black, and everyone is relieved. Karen and Hank once again end up back in bed, and she changes her mind about him coming to New York with her and Becca. It seems like everyone is happy until Becca’s boyfriend apologizes, and those two end up back together. Karen doesn’t want to separate the two, so Hank offers to stay behind with Becca in LA while Karen goes to NY. He makes a great speech that Karen says makes her love him even more.  She ends up going to New York alone, and we see a glimpse of what life with Becca and Hank will be like. These two should be able to keep each other in check. Hank has an opportunity to get laid, and he doesn’t even take it.

This season has had a lot of ups and down. Karen and Hank were on again and off again. Ashby threw some trouble into the mix, and I hated to see him die. Charlie’s life is a mess, and now with Hank and Becca on their own I am curious to see what will happen in season three. Have we seen the last of Karen? I hope not. These two really do belong together. I just hate having to wait so long to see what happens next. What do you think of this season finale and the season that was of Californication?

The Sarah Connor Chronicles Episode 2-12

tscc2-11.jpg

TV.com: Alpine Fields - Sarah and Cameron attempt to save a family whose fate links in with Derek in the future. Jesse fights for her life.

-

Recap & Review: Terminator has been slowly improving from the beginning of the season. The series has had its high points and its low ones. I’ll say from the outset that this episode was one of its low ones. It never really pulled me in. This week, Sarah is trying to save a family whose name also appears on the list. She doesn’t know which of the family is set to be killed by a terminator coming after them. It could be the father, the mother or their teenage daughter. She tries to get them back to the city, but the terminator crashes into them. This leads them to returning to their house in the middle of the woods.

Sarah tries to figure out which needs saving, and the teenager, Lauren, thinks it might be her dad. In his work, he has been doing banking with a computer tech company. They try to hide out in the house, and during this time we learn there is more to this family. The mother has been having an affair with one of the neighbors near the cabin. This is something her husband had no idea about. In fact, she is pregnant. With this new piece of information, Sarah believes that it is her baby they are trying to keep alive. We learn this to be so during the course of the episode.

The episode jumps back and forth through time. First, we’re in 2027 with Derek, and we see where he meets Jessie for the first time on a mission to save a girl that might be the only one immune to a virus unleased by the cyborgs to destroy the human race. The two are able to find the young girl, and they take her back to Derek’s headquarters. Both Jessie and Derek were both infected by the virus, but with the girl a cure is found and made. This is why the terminator wants her dead. We jump from this future point to the point of the girl’s birth ad back to when Sarah first encountered the family, and we keep doing this throughout the episode.

We do see Sarah and Derek are successful in keeping the girl alive, but this episode just didn’t have the strength previous episodes had. To me, it was weak point in the series. We didn’t even see John once during this episode, and he is the main part of this series. There was one phone call. I am a huge fan of this series, but this episode dragged on for me. What did you think of this week’s episode? Only one more episode until The Sarah Connor Chronicles takes its own winter break!

Californication Episode 2-11

TV.com: Blues from Laurel Canyon - Ashby throws a party for Mia for her book being published. Charlie wants a divorce. Becca is distraught after catching Damien two-timing on her.

-

Recap & Review: Only one episode of Californication left before this season is over for another year. Yes, fans of this series can breath easier knowing that this isn’t the end of the journey for Hank Moody. Showtime has renewed the series for a third series that will air next fall. Time will only tell what happens when the series returns. We know there are some changes happening next week. Spoilers suggest death and someone leaving. I think we might have seen the death on this episode, but we won’t get into that right now. Let’s talk about this week’s episode.

This week’s episode surrounded the release of Mia’s book. We know it isn’t her book, but it is now released, and the reviews are coming in. She shows up in Hank’s bedroom to tell him about the review of the book in the New York Times. They give it a great review. Ashby has ended things with Mia, but he still wants to throw her a party at his home for the release. This is where most of the action of the episode takes places this week.

Marcy does her best to avoid temptation, but with it being Ashby’s party, the alcohol and drugs are flowing. She seems to succeed. However, she gets some bad news during the party when Charlie outs his relationship with Daisy and asks Marcy for a divorce when Daisy takes another man to the party. Marcy doesn’t take this news too well. We don’t get to see much of that though because there is way too much going on. We do see a fight break out between them all before Hank uses Ashby’s shot gun method.

Becca is dealing with her first heartbreak as she goes to the party and catches her boyfriend kissing another man. Ashby takes lead on this one surprisingly before turning the teen over to Karen. Becca now knows men can’t be trusted. The Rolling Stone writer is also back, and she is making her own connections to the book. A connection that makes Hank the man Mia wrote about in the book. Hank and everyone else denies this though. Good thing Karen wasn’t in ear shot!

When everything dies down, Ashby’s one true love arrives at the party, and Hank talks her into seeing Ashby before she leaves. Hank goes to get the singer, and he is on his way down when something happens. He takes some drugs, and they appear to be bad. He collapses on the spot, and Hank isn’t able to revive him with his shot. Is Ashby dead?

There was a preview for next week that showed him alive, but we all know when it comes to shows and especially this one, this appearance could be in Hank’s mind. We’ll have to wait until next week to see what happens in the season finale. This series is ending on a strong note I think. Depending on what happens next week, we will have plenty to work with when season three rolls around next fall. What did you think of this week’s episode?

Brothers & Sisters Episode 3-10

bros3-10.jpg

TV.com: Just A Sliver - The Walkers encounter some conflicts in the schedules on Thankgiving; leaving Nora & Sarah alone to celebrate; Elizabeth endures a medical emergency that brings the family together.

-

Recap & Review: Here it is almost Christmas, and the Walker family is still celebrating Thanksgiving. Now no family get together with this family is ever easy, and this one is included with that. This is the first year everyone is making other plans for the holiday, and these plans do not include a family Walker dinner with Nora. Of course, no one knows they are not the only ones not going to spend Thanksgiving with their mom. Everyone has made other plans except for Sarah, and no one has told Nora. No one wants to tell her either, but they finally do. This doesn’t set well with her. In fact, she even tells Sarah not to pity her and spend the day with her.

However, a Walker family crisis ends the bickering over the Thanksgiving plans quite quickly. Elizabeth has taken ill, and it appears to be an issue with her liver from the medication she took when she was born. She needs a liver transplant, but she needs it from a parent. This means the family must know what they really didn’t want to know - who is Elizabeth’s biological father. Tommy calls both Justin and Kevin to come in for testing, and this just causes problems for the family. No one really wanted to know about this.

Tommy is Elizabeth’s father, and that is that. Justin feels that way, but it isn’t too clear how Kevin feels about it.  Once the tests are complete, we find out that it was indeed Kevin that helped bring Elizabeth and her twin into the world, and Kevin goes in for the operation that should help save her life. The whole family gathers around at the hospital, as the Walker family does when there is a crisis. Sal even returns from a trip he took to spend the holiday with other relatives. Everyone is there to support Kevin, Tommy and Julia as they all want Elizabeth to be alright. There is nothing that brings this family closer together than when one of them needs help. Nora even offered some of her liver to Elizabeth.

The operation looks to be a success. Elizabeth recovers, and Nora gets her Thanksgiving wish. She has all her family together at Thanksgiving. A nice simple holiday episode that showed the meaning of family. Holly and Rebecca had a small plot this week as well with Rebecca coming up with thoughts about her own birth father, David. This played only a small part of the episode.

My problem with this episode is the following though. Whenever this family needs huge family drama, they go to Tommy. His baby died. He had the affair. He had to fire Kevin. He wants to get rid of Holly, and now Elizabeth is sick. Why is it always Tommy? Yes, all the family members have their own drama to deal with, but when it comes to huge life and death drama it comes to Tommy. This is something I have noticed just recently, and it needs to change. There really wasn’t any need to make the little girl sick. It does seem that it had some huge purpose though. It might be something that starts a series of events, but we won’t know that until the series returns in January. The Walker family is taking the holidays off! Grey’s Anatomy Episode 5-11

greys5-11.jpg

TV.com: All By Myself - Cristina is awarded the first solo surgery among the residents, but she has to relinquish it and choose her replacement; Mark performs a cutting-edge procedure to restore a patient’s speech, impressing Lexie in the process; and Callie can’t figure out if Sadie (Melissa George) is flirting with her or just being friendly.

-

Recap & Review: Grey’s Anatomy is back after a week off for the Thanksgiving holiday, and we just jump right back into things as the attendings need to figure out which resident gets their shot at a solo surgery. The logical choice is of course Yang, but she is on suspension. They pick her anyway, and they leave the decision of who gets the first solo surgery up to her.

This leads everyone else trying to get on her good side and coming to her with why they think they should get the solo surgery.  Izzie thinks she doesn’t have a shot at it because it will go to Meredith, but Yang is taking her choice very seriously. When pushes comes to shove, she finally makes a choice. She chooses Karev because he made the best case for the surgery. Once he knows it is him, he goes to look for Izzie, and he confesses that he is in love with her.

They do go on with their day with two cases that come into hospital. One is a car accident with two teen girls who can’t seem to stop fighting, and the other is a woman who is going under for a procedure that might restore her voice. The girls seem to be the more pressing of the two as the older girl seems to suffer from a brain fracture.

In fact, she codes while she is being tested.  This changes the younger girl’s tune. She doesn’t want her sister having heard the last words from her being ‘I hope you die.’ She doesn’t make it though. During her surgery, something goes wrong and the girl goes brain dead.  Dr. Dixon pushes the family to give up her organs. Meredith helps the young girl accept her sister would forgive for what she said if she was still coherent and alive. However, the miracle happens in the other case as the woman is given the gift of speech.

As with any episode, the focus isn’t on the patients, but on the lives of the staff. Izzie is still having an affair with a dead guy. Sadie finally tells Lexie Sloan has the hots for her, and we see Owen and Yang move forward on their own relationship. Not only that, but we see Callie wonder if Sadie is hitting on her or not. This one is perplexing to me because they fired Brooke Smith because the lesbian line wasn’t working. Now they have Sadie flirting with Callie? Something is wrong here. Very wrong.

Not only is there something wrong here with that, but the Izzie and Denny line has reached laughable with me. I liked it at first, but as soon as she started having a lot of great sex with someone who isn’t even there I started having a small problem with the plot. Hopefully, there ends up being some good explanation for what is happening, but I think people around Izzie are starting to think she has lost it. I’m starting to agree with them. Ugly Betty Episode 3-10

betty3-10.jpg

TV.com: Bad Amanda - Amanda and Betty are forced to work together for an article called “How I Blew Ten Grand Without Spending a Dime.”

-

Recap & Review: ABC’s original programming took a week off last week for the Thanksgiving holiday, but the shows are back. This week, we see Betty dealing with the fact that Amanda has moved in and has taken over her apartment rent free. She isn’t pay one dime in rent, and she is eating all of Betty’s food. This isn’t something that Betty appreciates, but she doesn’t say anything. Hilda pushes her to say something, and she tries. However, Amanda works her way out of paying anything once again.

Betty hopes to help fix her money issues by asking for more overtime at Mode. However, those opportunities are gone with the state of the economy. There is something else though. Betty can pitch an idea for Mode’s new website. What she pitches puts everyone to sleep though. Amanda pitches a similar idea, jazzing up Betty’s idea, and they are assigned to work together. Amanda’s idea includes spending a night on the town spending other people’s money. It seems to be something she is good at with how she got out of paying Betty for food and rent.

The two start to work on the article. Free samples, clothes they plan to return and dinner with two rich men. These two end up being left with the check, and Betty must think fast. She is able to get out of paying the check by using the Mode name. However, the two men just didn’t leave them with the check. They also stole the rent money and Amanda’s wallet. This puts Betty into a bind. Betty does work out an article, and Daniel loves it. He even offers her advance that should cover her rent. Amanda does get a second job though. The two seem to have come to some kind of understanding.

As for Connor, his fiance, Wilhelmina and Daniel. Wilhelmina is embarrassed over what happened in Key Largo. She babbles whenever he walks into the room. As for the fiance, Daniel seems to be getting closer to her as well. When she asks him to help with a charity event, he backs out at the last minute when his mother warns him about infidelity. However, these two get even closer when she shows up to pick up his donation. When she spills food on her dress, he offers her one from Mode’s racks, and the two share amount. One where they almost kiss. This moment is even caught on video and Wilhelmina has it on tape. She plans to use it get Connor for herself.

Ugly Betty seems to be move up in the world, and the promo for future episodes seems to show this. However, not all will be perfect. It wouldn’t be Betty’s life if it was. I like Betty and Amanda. They seem to make the perfect kind of odd couple in this series.  I want to see how the two of them continue on together. What did you think of this week’s episode of Ugly Betty? The Sarah Connor Chronicles Episode 2-11

tscc2-10.jpg

TV.com: Self Made Man - Cameron’s secret is exposed. A Terminator sent to the wrong time causes catastrophic results changing history.

-

Recap & Review: Terminator seems to be picking up speed and only getting better as the season progresses. This series totally escapes everything that is part of the Terminator series of films, but with its mythology he is gaining only new viewers. In the last couple of episodes time travel and different time lines has become a focus, and that has continued on this week. We begin the episode with Cameron and some things she is doing.

At night, it appears she has another life at the library. She talks to the man that runs the library, taking him donuts. While looking through pictures in an old book from the 1920’s, she finds someone she recognizes - a terminator possibly. She has the librarian help her pull up more about the man and she finds out who he is. Even though, the records on the man are in a locked room, she breaks in. This angers the man.

However, she apologizes, and they continue on to find out about the man she saw. There is no record of him before a fire in 1920. He began to buy property in the San Fernando Valley and he built homes. He found the money to buy these properties by robbing banks. When the librarian finds her gun, he of course has way too many questions. Questions she all answers. The more she finds out about the man she saw in the picture, the more questions she has herself.

They find another video of a documentary, and in this documentary Cameron learns the story oh how the fire started. A terminator arrived on scene and started the blaze with his arrival. However, Cameron finds out that the terminator arrived at the wrong time in history. He wasn’t meant to kill all those people in the fire. In order to make things right, he makes sure the building that was going to be built by one of the men that died is built, and then he he hides in the walls for the next eighty years. She finds the terminator and terminates him before going back to the library. She tells Eric, the librarian, his cancer has returned, and he tells her to leave. The next time she comes to the library, he is gone.

As for Riley, we now know she is also from the future, and that night she calls John to come get her. She is obviously upset, but when he arrives all is well, and she wants to just hang out. Hanging out turns into John getting into a fight with the guy who lives at the house the party is at. He pulls her out of the house, and they end up parking somewhere to talk. He tells her about his past, and she does the same. This brings the two of them closer together. You really have to wonder what will happen once John finds out she is from the future.

Not much of Sarah Connor this week. Nothing of Derek and Jessie. This episode was mostly focused on Cameron and the past. The past did become important though because it looks like Cameron found the significance of the three dots. This series is really picking up speed though, and I can’t wait to see what happens next. What did you think of this week’s episode? For daily tv listings, check here .

Californication Episode 2-10

72408_californication_-_ep_2x10_cu_isa_60_122_207lo.jpg

TV.com: In Utero - Hank reminisces his past with Karen. Charlie pleads with Daisy to move out.

-

Recap & Review: Californication is getting closer to winding down their season. The last episode of this season is set to air on December 14th, and we can tell we’re getting close to the end. At the end of last week’s episode, Karen found a mysterious lump in Hank’s groin air following a night of sex. These two are always on again and off again, so it is no surprise that right now they appear to be on again. After this mysterious lump is discovered, it becomes time to deal with it.

Karen is right there by his side in the doctor’s office while he waits to be checked out. She is there by his side when the doctor decides he wants to take a biopsy, and she remains by his side while he waits the results of the procedure. This is something that confuses their daughter Becca. She wants to know just what the heck is going on, but they decide not to tell her. This is nothing new. They probably don’t know what is going on between them either.

We do get a look into the past of these two though. While he is waiting about his future, Hank looks back at the start of his relationship with Karen. It appears these two didn’t start in the best of ways. They were both cheating on their significant others at the time, and this is when Karen discovers she is pregnant with Hank’s child. She discovers that the morning Kurt Cobain is found dead, which appears to be an important event in the lives of the both of them. They spend that one day going back and forth over what they should do about the child, and at the end of the day they end up together.

This is what Hank wants to happen now. Karen is still the woman he wants to be with. He wants her to be there the day he dies, and that is just how it is for him. He wants to do it right this time though, even after finding out that his new friend kissed his woman. This is something that causes him to chase after Ashby in Karen’s kitchen, but once that is done the two are fine. As is Hank. His results come back from the doctor, and all he needs is some antibiotics to take care of the problem.

We don’t see much of Charlie this week, but Daisy decides she is giving up porn. She wants the memory of Charlie being the last man she had sex with on screen. However, Charlie wants more than that. He wants her it looks like, and he is ignoring the fact that his wife is now coming home from rehab. This episode made Hank think, and it made him a little less invincible. It made him realize what is important in his life, and that is Karen and Becca. Will this be a positive change for him? I hope so. For me, it brought Hank back down to earth. What did you think of this episode of Californication?
