Celebrity Today Movie Report -11/16/09

Another Monday morning has arrived, and it is pretty much a given what movie managed to top the box office this weekend. 2012 has had people waiting for months now, and the wait finally ended. The next big disaster movie about the end of the world managed to push Disney’s A Christmas Carol out of the top slot by earning $65 million. Not a bad number there at all. Michael Jackson’s This is It only managed to come in fifth. This week is a big release week with another movie the fans have been waiting for. Twilight’s New Moon. Twilight fans have definitely been waiting for this one’s release, so there is no doubt in my mind it will hit the top of the box office this weekend. Planet 51 and The Blind Side will also hit theaters this week.
As far CD & DVD releases go, we have one of the big summer movies now hitting store shelves in Star Trek along with Bruno and My Sister’s Keeper, and with the holidays coming more television offerings are headed to stores including some repackaged favorites including The Sopranos and Rome from HBO. Music seems to be where the big names are at though with releases from John Mayer, Lady Gaga and One Republic all hitting this week. Check below for a full list of new releases.

Celebrity Today Movie Report - 11/9/09

Another Monday has arrived, and that means it is time to take a quick look at what happened at the box office this weekend. Disney’s all new version for A Christmas Carol starring Jim Carrey managed to top the list at the box office this weekend with $31 million coming in in ticket sales. Michael Jackson managed to stay in the second spot beating out the other new arrivals this weekend, THe Men Who Stare At Goats and The Fourth Kind. Those two came in third and fourth place respectively.  The Box, the new one from Cameron Diaz, came in sixth place after Paranormal Activity.
This week, 2012 finally hits theaters. This is one I have been personally waiting for to come out. Another one of those end of the world type disaster movies that will end up scaring you about the fate of our own world, but you’ll still watch anyone. As far as DVD releases go, Up and The Ugly Truth both hit store shelves along with Dawson’s Creek in its complete series release. Music is where it is at this week though with a number of new releases including music from Bon Jovi, Tori Amos and others. Check below for a full list of this week’s releases.

Celebrity Today Movie Report - 11/2/09

Another Monday has arrived, and that means it is time to look at what happened at the box office this weekend. There was only one major film released last week, and that was Michael Jackson’s This Is It. Numbers for the release weren’t as impressive as many thought they would be. This Is It did manage to claim the top spot for the weekend from Paranormal Activity, which managed to come out on top of the box office in its fifth week of release. Over the weekend, This Is It managed to bring in $21.3 million. Paranormal was a close second with $16.5 million.

While there was only one release last week, we have four movies headed into theaters this week. The ones that might be of interest are the new version of A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz’s The Box. Two others also come out this week, and before their promos starting hitting my television last week, I had no idea about The Fourh Kind or The Men Who Stare At Ghosts. That last one is a new one with George Clooney, and there seems to be a huge push for it with advertising right now.

As for other releases, on DVD we have G.I. Joe hitting store shelves along with The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 and I I Love You, Beth Cooper. Television fans will have the first season of The Clone Wars to pick up. As far as music goes, there are a large number of new releases on CD hitting store shelves including new music from Carrie Underwood, Weezer and Morrissey. Check out below for a full list of this week’s releases.

Celebrity Today Movie Report - 10/26

Another Monday has arrived, and this weekend, we had a bit of a shocker at the box office. This should have been the weekend Saw VI ruled the box office with just a little less than week to Halloween. That series of movies always tops the box office in its first weekend of its release, but that didn’t happen this year. A movie that has already been out in theaters a month managed to come from the bottom of the charts in that time to finally reach number one.

Paranormal Activity is getting fantastic word of mouth advertising, and with Halloween just a few days away now, more and more are going to see just what the movie is all about. The movie managed to pull in $22 million this weekend. Paramount is already talking sequel for this one. As for Saw VI, it managed to come in second place with $14.8 million at the box office in its opening weekend. The other two releases this weekend, Astro Boy and Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant, came in far down the charts at sixth and eight places.

As for the week ahead, there is one movie hitting theaters this weekend, and it is making an early release on Wednesday. Michael Jackson’s This Is It finally hits theaters, and something tells me we will see it hit number one this weekend. The soundtrack to the movie is also being released this weekend. As for DVD releases, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and new music from Creed also hit store shelves this week. Check out a full list of releases below.

Another Monday morning has arrived, and it looks like the cute and wild and the not so cute battled it out for the top of the box office.  As it turns out, the cute came out on top with Where The Wild Things Are topping the box office. That movie managed to make $32.5 million in its opening week. Next up behind it was Law Abiding Citizen where Gerard Butler went mad after his family is killed. The other big new release this weekend was The Stepfather, and it managed to come in 5th place. The big surprise still manages to be Paranormal Activity, and it came in third this week behind the top two!

In the week ahead, we have four new movies hitting box offices including Hilary Swank’s Amelia, Astro Boy and the next movie in the Saw series just in time for Halloween. On DVD, fans of Transformers finally get Revenge of the Fallen on DVD. Hitting store shelves also on DVD is the final season of The L Word and a repackaged edition of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. On the music front,we have new music from Tim McGraw among others. Check out below for a full list of new releases.

Another Monday has arrived, and that means it is time to look at this weekend’s box office. With only one major movie in wide release, that means that movie somehow managed to top the box office charts. The romantic comedy Couples Retreat happened to bring in $35 million this week. The movie was set this weekend’s release date with Shutter Island, but that movie was pushed back to a February release date. Last week’s number one, Zombieland slipped to the number two spot, and the shocker of the week has to be Paranormal Activity, which managed to come in the top five with only a very limited release in theaters. That one made just over $7 million.

As for the week head, we certainly seem to have a busy week as far as new releases. We have three new offerings coming to theaters this week. Two of the thriller variety, and one for the whole family to enjoy. One that many are looking at is the remake of The Stepfather. The original of that movie is the one that made Terry O’Quinn famous long before he was on Lost. The trailer for the remake actually looks alright, but we all know I’m not a big fan of remakes. The other big release to theaters this week is from Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx with Law Abiding Citizen where we see what a man pushed to the edge after watching his family killed and the men set free is capable of doing.

As far as releases to stores. We have a number of new releases to DVD including The Prosposal, Land of the Lost and Drag Me To Hell.  The first three seasons of the Land of the Lost television series is also hitting DVD this week. As far as music goes, we have new releases from Shakira, Mario and it seems the Christmas music season is starting to get underway. Check below for a full list of new releases.

Another Monday has arrived, and that means it is time to take a quick look at what happened at this weekend’s box office. For the last two weeks, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs had topped the box office, but this week the undead pushed the meatball down to the second spot. Zombieland managed to take the top spot, and that might have with the help of a little news bit that broke on Thursday about a surprise cameo.

That cameo seems to have brought people in to see the movie to the tune of $25 million in its opening weekend. The number two managed to make another $16.7 million, and the Toy Story double feature came in third. The other two new movies this weekend The Invention Of Lying and Whip It had low openings. Lying came in fourth place with $7.4 million and Whip It came in seventh place with $4.9 million made in its opening weekend.

As for the week ahead, we only have one major movie hitting theaters in wide release, and that is Couples Retreat, a new comedy. There is far more coming out this week to store shelves, including Ally McBeal, Bones, Medium, Year One and more hitting DVD. There is also a number of new music releases set to hit on Tuesday including the new CD from the Backstreet Boys. You can check out a full list of new releases below.

Another Monday morning has arrived, and that means it is time to look at what happened at the box office this weekend. We had two big movies released to the public this weekend, and neither of them were able to claim the top spot from Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. That movie topped things with another 24.6 million in earnings. The Surrogates and Fame came in a distant second and third. Surrogates managed $15 million and Fame brought in only $10 million in its first weekend in theaters. Somehow I thought one of those too would manage to hit the top of things.

This weekend, we have a number of new movies hitting theaters including The Invention Of Lying, Zombieland and Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut, Whip It. We also have the re-release of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in 3-D. Will one of these be able to knock meatballs from the top of the box office? We will have to wait and see what happens!

As for other releases this week, we have a number of new music releases and releases to DVD. Monsters vs. Aliens hits store shelves along with a number of television series seasons also hitting DVD. As for music, we have Madonna’s new greatest hits CD, Celebration, along with releases from Mariah Carey and Alice in Chains. For a complete list of new releases, check below.

Another Monday has arrived, and everyone is wondering just how well the new movies released over the weekend did at the box office. Did Megan Fox dominate the box office with her release, or did one of the other movies released manage to snag the top spot at the box office. Well, I can tell you right now Megan Fox didn’t manage to come in first or even second. Jennifer’s Body came in fifth place behind Love Happens.

Yes, that movie was released even with the problems I mentioned on this blog last week. The number one spot this weekend went to Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. The animated  feature earned just a little over $30 million this week. At number two, we have Matt Damon and The Informant with just over $10 million. In just their second week of release, last week’s new releases Sorority Row and Whiteout slipped all the way down to ninth and tenth place.

As for the week ahead, we have a number of new releases including the Fame remake and The Surrogates into theaters, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past and The Complete 3rd Season of Ugly Betty to DVD, and a lot of new music. Everything from David Gray to Vertical Horizon. Check out below for a full list of new releases.

Another Monday morning has arrived and while everyone recovers from True Blood season finale and the MTV Video Music Awards last night, let’s talk about the box office this weekend. Final Destination was finally knocked out of the top spot this weekend. It had rested their comfortably for two weeks, but Tyler Perry came out on top with the next film in that series, Tyler Perry I Can Do Bad All By Myself. The film earned $24 million at the box office this weekend with 9, another movie opening last week coming in second place. The other openers this weekend, Sorority Row and Whiteout didn’t do as well. As they came in sixth and seventh place behind Final Destination, which managed to slide all the way down to fifth place.

As for this week, we have a number of new releases coming to theaters and to our store shelves. To theaters we have The Informant, Jennifer’s Body and Love Happens as well as a new animated feature, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Fans of Marvel will be able to head to their local video store to rent or by X-Men Origins: Wolverine! Seasons of Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice and Crash also hit store shelves. There is also a lot of new music heading to stores this week including Nelly Furtado, Beastie Boys and Uncle Kracker. Check below for a full list of new releases!
