Discuss: The Light Goes Out

guiding-light-cancelled.jpg

Friday is usually the day I post a new music video for you all to listen to and watch, but today something pretty big is happening in the television world. Guiding Light, a soap opera that has been on the air in one form or another for seventy-two years is taking to the small screen for one final time today on CBS. The network canceled the series earlier this year, and even though there was some effort by another network to save the serial, those efforts failed, and now we must say good-bye to a program and a cast of characters that many have had in their lives for quite some time.

I am one of them. I began watching Guiding Light when I was just a young girl because it was something my mother watched. It became something the two of us did together. This week and in the last few months, a lot of the old favorites from the old days of the series have returned to the series. In their own way saying good-bye to the series that was as much a part of their lives as it is a part of ours.

This week, we watched the marriage of not one but two couples of characters, Billy and Vanessa and Buzz and Lillian, that have been on the series for at least the last twenty years. Following the happiness came the grief as Alan Spaulding, the man who many might see as the centerpiece of this series, died. He was the show’s biggest villain for many years, but this week he had finally redeemed himself and was making it a point to change his life. It was then with the peace he made, that he left their lives. A fitting way to end to this series I think. For the rest of the week, we’ve been trying to tie up loose ends.

It appears Guiding Light is trying to make happily ever after happen for as many characters as they can. Ed asked Holly to go away with him. Fletcher heard about Alan’s death and rushed to Alex’s side. Phillip asked Beth to marry him. Jonathan returned to Springfield, and I’m sure if the writers could get away with bringing Tammy back from the death they would have found a way.  Today we will have to see what other happy endings we are given. Check back later today for my thoughts on the finale of Guiding Light in comments. What do you think of the end of this serial? Were you a fan? Share your thoughts along with me in comments.

Discuss: True Blood Season 2 Finale

trueblood212.jpg

Vampires are one hot ticket right now it seems. All you have to look at is the record numbers set by The Vampire Diaries this week on CW. The premiere of that series brought in the highest numbers of viewers the CW has ever had! It will return to the network for its second episode on Thursday night, and if those numbers continue I see a full season of The Vampire Diaries ahead of us.

That will help those vampire loving people going through True Blood withdrawals. Yes, True Blood returns to HBO tonight for the finale of its second season. The series took a week break last weekend for Labor Day, but now we’ll get to see how this season ends up. What will happen to the town of Bon Temps and Maryann? Will the Queen of the Vampires come in to save the day?

No matter what happens, I’ll be tuning in to watch at some point tonight. Season three is already in the works, and Alan Ball gave TV Squad some spoilers for next season. Looks like we’ll have some new faces to deal with including The Vampire of Mississippi.

Also, it seems no matter what happens on-screen, the off screen happenings are just as interesting. We’ve already had one couple formed by the actors on this series with Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer engaged to be married, but now it looks like Evan Rachel Wood and Alexander Skarsgard have also hooked up during filming. News of the hook-up comes from Perez Hilton. Who is next?

Check back here later tonight to see my thoughts of the season finale of True Blood. Check here for more on True Blood.

Discuss: 90210 Returns, Melrose Place Premieres

melrose-place-season-1-promoshoot-melrose-place-7548651-500-407.jpg

Yes, everyone. The fall television season is now getting under way. We’ve all suffered through those long boring months with nothing on television but reality programming and some series on cable. True Blood’s season is coming to an end, and from what I’ve heard Hung wasn’t a bad series. Might need to head to my on demand to check that one out before it is pulled by HBO. The CW is ready to premiere two of its series tonight with season two of 90210 ready to start, and an all new Melrose Place ready to hit your small screen.

I was a fan of 90210 last year, but the series lost me a bit around mid-season. I finally managed to catch up on all that I missed from Summer going nuts to Ethan falling for her. Don’t forget Naomi falling for the bad boy only to have them both screwed over by her sister. Him, literally. In the midst of all that, Annie is labeled a narc and tossed out on her butt from Naomi’s prom party. This means revenge is needed as Annie decides to play her label and actually narc on the party. This all leads up to what is supposed to be a cliffhanger ending with Annie doing a hit and run.

As for Melrose Place, an all new set of tenants of twenty-somethings with their messed up lives are ready to move in and let us follow their loves. A familiar face or two are going to be around, and those behind the place are still trying to get Heather Locklear to make a big return as Amanda Woodward. No telling if she will do it, but I’m hoping she does.

I will be watching both premieres tonight on CW, and I’ll come back with some thoughts then. Feel free to chime in with your own in the comments below!

Discuss: True Blood Episode 2.11

trueblood211.jpg

True Blood is gearing up for the season finale of the series’ second season. People are tuning into the series in record numbers week after week to find out what happens next, and I am just another one of those fans. Last week, we saw our main characters return from Dallas to find hell on earth in their small town of Bon Temps. Sookie, Bill and Jason must work first to save their friend Tara from the influence of Maryann before they focus on saving their entire town.

The focus here is on Sam, who appears to be the focus of Maryann’s plot. She wishes to have him sacrificed to some God. This makes the entire town after him as well. However, Jason is able to use what training he has received from The Fellowship of the Sun to rescue his friend. This week, we see Bill go to the Queen to receive aid in defeating Maryann. The Queen here is played by Evan Rachel Wood, who joins the series for the final two episodes of the season. Rumor has it she will also make an appearance in season three.

Check back tonight after True Blood airs for a brief recap of tonight’s episode. Check here for more on True Blood .

Discuss: Michael Jackson Was Murdered

michael-jackson-wave.jpgThe Los Angeles Coroner’s Office has now released a statement that states that Michael Jackson’s death was indeed a homicide. He was killed by a lethal dose of the drug Propofol. The injection of the drug was administered by his doctor Dr. Conrad Murray. The doctor said he administered the drug nightly to combat insomnia. The Los Angeles has yet to confirm this statement. Michael Jackson died on June 25th, and the entertainer is yet to be buried.

What do you think of this latest development?

Drugs Involved in Jackson’s and Mays’ Death

billy_mays.jpgReports have come out today that drugs did play a part in Michael Jackson’s death on June 25th. The entertainer had a lethal dose of Proprofol in his blood stream, along with Xanax. This is no big shock, but what is shocking is the fact that drugs also played a part in another high profile death in recent weeks. Billy Mays was first said to have died of a head injury, then a heart attack, and now there is word it might have been a drug overdose. There was reportedly cocaine in his body at the time of his death. What do you think of these new shocking developments?
