Southland Canceled

Yes, folks that were waiting for the second season premiere of Southland to hit on October 23rd. You now have nothing to wait for. Before the second season has a chance to premiere, NBC is pulling the plug on the series. That’s right. They canceled it yesterday out of nowhere. Production on the series was shut down when they have already produced six episodes for this season. In fact, they were shooting an episode just Wednesday afternoon in Los Angeles.
Southland premiered in ER’s old time slot last season, and it was quickly picked up for a second season, even though its ratings didn’t look to be the best out there. With Leno now taking over the 10pm hour, Southland had moved into a Friday night time slot. The cancelation did come as a shock to those working on the series, and the people behind the series still believe in the program. They are currently looking for a new network to take Southland on. Apparently, Southland was too adult of a series for the 9pm hour.
The series starred Ben McKenzie, who you might remember as the loveable bad boy from Fox’s The OC. What do you think of this sudden cancelation? Did you watch Southland? Were you planning to tune in when it returned on October 23rd? Right now, Dateline is set to retain that time slot.
I’m disappointed that NBC no longer has the time periods available to support the kind of critically-acclaimed series that was for so many years, a hallmark of their success.
