Horror movies ruled the box office this weekend. For the last weekend of the summer months, two horror flicks battled it out for the top spot, but only one was able to come out on top. That honor on this Monday morning goes to The Final Destination. In its opening weekend, the film scored $28.3 million at the box office. Halloween II, the other big horror film released this weekend, came in third place with just $17.4 million.
Word has it out of Hollywood this morning that Rob Zombie has set his eye on another classic horror flick to bring back to life once again. This time it is The Blob, and I’m already shaking my head here. He ruined Halloween in my eyes, twisting it into something more about blood and gore than a real story. I can’t even begin to imagine what he will do here with The Blob. The other new release this weekend, Taking Woodstock, came in ninth place with only $3.7 million in box office earnings.
Hitting theaters this weekend, we have Gamer and Extract, but the real winner this week is store shelves, especially when it comes to new music and fans of television. With September now just a day away, that means it is almost time for the fall season to start. This means we’re now getting DVD releases of last year’s seasons out. Supernatural and Brothers & Sisters are both headed to store shelves tomorrow. Check back later this week for my review of Supernatural’s 4th season DVD set. This is just in time for the fifth season to start on September 10th. As far as music goes, we have new releases from Whitney Houston, The Black Crowes and The Used. Check out below for a full list of this week’s releases!
True Blood is gearing up for the season finale of the series’ second season. People are tuning into the series in record numbers week after week to find out what happens next, and I am just another one of those fans. Last week, we saw our main characters return from Dallas to find hell on earth in their small town of Bon Temps. Sookie, Bill and Jason must work first to save their friend Tara from the influence of Maryann before they focus on saving their entire town.
The focus here is on Sam, who appears to be the focus of Maryann’s plot. She wishes to have him sacrificed to some God. This makes the entire town after him as well. However, Jason is able to use what training he has received from The Fellowship of the Sun to rescue his friend. This week, we see Bill go to the Queen to receive aid in defeating Maryann. The Queen here is played by Evan Rachel Wood, who joins the series for the final two episodes of the season. Rumor has it she will also make an appearance in season three.
Check back tonight after True Blood airs for a brief recap of tonight’s episode. Check here for more on True Blood .
It seems 2009, and especially this summer has been a hard one to take. We have lost one after another in the celebrity world, and it just keeps happening. The latest loss is Adam Goldstein, also known as DJ AM. He was found dead in his New York City apartment late Friday afternoon. Some friends hadn’t heard from him in a few days, and they proceeded to check on him. When he didn’t answer the door, they got someone to let them in, and they found him dead.
A year ago, he was one of two survivors of a fatal plane crash, and since then he had been battling pain and taking pills for that. Those on the scene say they found drug paraphenalia, and it is possible the man died of a drug overdose. Too much loss this summer. This looks to be another one that could have been avoided. Here are the final words we have from DJ Am via his Twitter. The lyrics are from the song NY, NY by Grandmaster Flash. May he rest in peace.
New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york aint always what it seems.
A couple of months ago, I posted the trailer for this new movie called 2012. It is the next big end of the world disaster movie from the man behind The Day After Tomorrow. This one takes a look at the Mayan belief that the world ends in 2012 because that is when their calendars stop. On that final date, there is supposedly a solar event that will cause chaos on our planet and bring about the end of life as we know it.
The trailer for this one looked amazing, and yesterday three all new posters showing some of the chaos on Earth were released. I know I am looking forward to going to see 2012 just based on the trailer alone. The Day After Tomorrow is one of my favorite movies, and I can’t wait to see 2012. Check out the three new posters from the movie below. The movie is set for release on November 13. What do you think? Will you be going to see 2012?
This is the latest news this morning, and I am sitting here scratching my head once again. Back in 1989, Heathers was one of my favorite movies. The movie starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater as this insane duo. He’s the new guy in school, and she’s the outcast. Together they go around accidently killing the popular kids one by one. There have been rumors of a big screen remake for about a year now. However, now it looks like it might make its return to the small screen instead.
Fox and Sony TV are looking to revive the 1980s dark comedy for the small screen. Lakeshore Entertainment will be producing, and they already have writers on hand - Mark Rizzo and Jenny Bicks. This movie was inventive back in 1989, but I’m sitting here wondering how it could revisited and redone for a weekly television series. Any thoughts on that one? What do you think? Will you watch a Heathers television series?
That’s the question on everyone’s mind since this video was released on the Internet on Tuesday. The brief clip is said to be of the Coroner van that took Michael Jackson away. In the clip, you see the van pull up, and a man get out of the back, dressed similarly to what Michael would wear.
The mystery and chaos over Michael Jackson’s death has been on-going since his passing. To say he is alive might be stretching. To this day, many fans still say Elvis is alive, and he died thirty years ago. So now for the next thirty to fifty years, we will have reports of Michael Jackson being alive.
This only makes sense, and the fact he hasn’t been properly buried yet is only adding fuel to this small fire. What do you think? Is Michael Jackson really alive? Was all of this one big hoax? And to what end? Why would Michael Jackson fake his death? Check out the video for yourself below.
Leonardo Dicaprio is one man that always seems to keep himself busy, especially these days. He has movie after movie coming out, and yesterday the trailer for one of his latest ventures onto the big screen was premiered online. This one is for the next film to come from Christopher Nolan. Yes, the man behind Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. This time he is taking us on a journey with Dicaprio, Cillian Murphy, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page and Michael Caine. This one has been busy filming in Paris in recent weeks actually, and it is set for release on July 24, 2010. This is only a quick teaser trailer, but it gives you a taste of what the movie is about. What do you think?
The Los Angeles Coroner’s Office has now released a statement that states that Michael Jackson’s death was indeed a homicide. He was killed by a lethal dose of the drug Propofol. The injection of the drug was administered by his doctor Dr. Conrad Murray. The doctor said he administered the drug nightly to combat insomnia. The Los Angeles has yet to confirm this statement. Michael Jackson died on June 25th, and the entertainer is yet to be buried.
Another weekend has come to an end, and now we’re in the home stretch rushing towards the end of the summer season. Usually August is a dead zone of bad movies, but this year we have seen that isn’t the case with releases such as G.I. Joe, District 9, The Time Traveler’s Wife, and this past weekend’s grand daddy release of them all, Inglourious Basterds. That movie managed to come out on top this weekend with $37.6 million in ticket sales at the box office. No telling if it will hold up next weekend, but this Tarantino’s best opening weekend ever. Reviews are mixed for the film, so it will be interesting to see if it can hold its number one spot against this weekend’s new releases.
The last weekend of August appears to be saved for horror flicks. We have two coming out this weekend. Final Destination: Death Trip 3D and the next one from Rob Zombie, Halloween II. It’l be interesting to see how these two do. I have absolutely no urge to see Halloween II. I caught the first Halloween Zombie did, and I was less than impressed. However, it did do well when it was released. I have yet to see the new Friday the 13th either, and I’m on the fence about the new Nightmare on Elm Street. Films like these originals were classic horror. I think we can all agree that horror is very different now than it was back when the original movies of these series were released. Now it is more about gore and shock factor than true horror.
Other new releases this week include Duplicity and Adventureland to DVD along with seasons of House and Californication. Music wise we have new releases from Collective Soul, Colbie Caillat, and Imogen Heap. Check out below for a full list of this week’s releases. What are you looking to pick up or go see this week?
In last week’s episode, we saw the chaos in Dallas end with the death of Godric. Now it is time for Sookie, Bill and Jason to return to Bon Temps, where they find that Maryann has taken over the town. Now they will need to fight her off! What did you think of this week’s episode? Check in here after I watch it with my thoughts in the comments!
