One of the best science fiction movies ever made has to be Alien. The film started Sigourney Weaver’s career, was the ultimate definition of girl power, and spawned not one but three sequels, and the franchise is still alive and going thirty years later. 1986’s Aliens was as good as the original if not better, but the next two in the series went down in quality considerably. Well, that might change. Word from Variety is we are getting another Alien.
This one a prequel to the first film that was released in 1979, and word has it the man that started the franchise, Ridley Scott, is returning to the world of Alien to make this one. Yes, another sequel/prequel/remake, but this one might actually be worth seeing. There is no denying Ridley Scott created the original universe for this franchise. It’ll be interesting to see him return to it and just see what he is able to do with it thirty years later. Scott and James Cameron are the only two I would trust with reviving Alien properly. What do you think? Are you ready for Alien to return?
Twilight fans had a bit of an uproar this week when it was announced that one of the major players in the movie saga was being replaced just weeks before Eclipse is set to start filming on August 17th. Rachelle Lafevre was replaced by Summit Entertainment and the powers that be in the world of Twilight by Bryce Dallas Howard. Lafevre played Victoria the villain, and apparently she had another project come up that overlapped with some of Eclipse’s filming schedule. She complained in a statement that it was only a ten day overlap that caused her replacement. Summit has now come out with a statement of their own that lashes out at the actress. Bryce Dallas Howard was last seen on the big screen in this summer’s Terminator Salvation. Check out part of Summit’s statement below.
Contrary to Ms. Lefevre’s statement, it is simply untrue that the Studio dismissed her over a ten day overlap. It is not about a ten day overlap, but instead about the fact that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is an ensemble production that has to accommodate the schedules of numerous actors while respecting the established creative vision of the filmmaker and most importantly the story.
Nightmare on Elm Street is yet another classic horror film getting the shiny all-new and remade treatment. We have a new man behind the mask in the flick set to hit theaters in 2010, and fans were able to get a sneak peak of what the new Elm Street will look like at Comic Con over the weekend. The flick was originally set for release on April 16th, but now it looks like we will see it hit on April 30th, which is not much of a delay really.
The change was made because as it is now no other movies are being released on the new date. This might change between now and then, but it is a release date right before May and the summer film season as well. At Comic Con, the first poster for the film was released, and while it is a simple poster, I think it is quite effective. Check out the new poster below. What do you think? Are you ready for an all new take on Nightmare on Elm Street?
Megan Fox seems to be turning the It girl. Although I’m not really sure how or why. She is great looking, but have you heard some of the things that come out of her mouth when she is out and about? She’s had me puzzled with a few of them. She was in one of this summer’s biggest movies - Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and we know she has another movie set for release on September 25th - Jennifer’s Body.
Some have been waiting for that one to see Megan turn into a sexy zombie like character. She has one more set for release, but we’ll have to wait a bit for this one. Jonah Hex is not set for release until August 18th. It was moved back from an August 6th date. This weekend at Comic Con, we were able to get a first look at the poster for this one, and you can check it out below. What do you think?
Another Monday has arrived, and that means it is time to take a quick look at the box office this weekend. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince didn’t manage to stay on top for a second week in a row. After blowing away all records last week, it slipped into second place with $30 million more to add to its numbers. It’s two week total is now $221.8 million.
Disney continued its domination of the box office though with its latest release hitting number one. G-Force brought in $32.2 million. Every Disney movie released in the last couple of months has managed to top the box office, if I’m not mistaken. The other two releases this weekend - The Ugly Truth and The Orphan - also managed to do well. They came in third and forth place behind Harry Potter.
This week we have a number of new releases coming to theaters, DVD and CD. Funny People is the big movie to hit theaters this weekend. The next comedy from Apatow stars Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Eric Bana. It is labeled more of a dramedy than an actual comedy though. As for DVD, Fast & Furious makes it way to DVD including a short film directed by Vin Diesel. You can check out the full list of new releases below.
A few weeks ago I showed off the poster for Dorian Gray starring Prince Caspian himself, Ben Barnes. The story is based on the story ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray,’ which tells the tale of a man that doesn’t age in life as a picture of him does. The first international trailer for this one was released just before the weekend hit, and let me say I am excited to see this one play out. We see Ben Barnes in a role as far from Prince Caspian as you can get. This one is set for release on September 9th. You can check out the trailer below. What do you think? Are you ready for Dorian Gray?
Comic Con is continuing down in San Diego, and that means we have more new trailers to show you. Nightmare on Elm Street is said to have premiered its first trailer for the Freddy Krueger remake yesterday, but it hasn’t hit the Internet yet. When it does, I’ll have it for you here.
Right now, we’re looking at Saw VI from Lionsgate. Both a trailer and a poster for the movie hit yesterday, and we even have more news for you. A Saw VII is definitely in the works after this one. People seem to love their gore and horror these days, but I never really caught on to the craze surrounding this one.
However, there are plenty of fans out there that are just waiting for the October 23rd release date. Check out the new trailer and poster for Saw VI below. What do you think?
A few days ago, a leaked trailer for Alice In Wonderland hit, but it was quickly pulled from the Internet by Disney. Now that Comic Con has hit, the trailer is up again, and this time we get a really good look at Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter in this new version of Alice In Wonderland. The film is set for release on March 5, 2010, and just for this quick tease I cannot wait to see it hit. This one looks really good, but we’ll have to wait and see how it does when it comes out. You can check out the trailer for the movie below. What do you think? Are you ready for Alice In Wonderland?
With Comic Con getting underway in San Diego today, we are going to have a lot of news come out over the next few days. A lot of new material to work with in the form of posters and trailers. For one hot minute yesterday, there was an early leak of the trailer for Alice In Wonderland, but that was quickly pulled by request of Walt Disney. As soon as that is made legally available online, I will have it for you here on Celebrity Today.
However, right now I have this new poster and trailer for Ninja Assassin, which comes to us from the same man that brought us V For Vendetta. That one was freaky, and we saw Natalie Portman bald. This one shows what happens when a man is kidnapped as a young boy by a group of assassins. He becomes the deadliest assassin of all time.
Ninja Assassin will hit theaters on November 24th. MTV is the one giving us a first look at the movie with this all new poster and trailer. Check them out below. What do you think?
Rumors have been buzzing the last week or so about Paula Abdul’s time with American Idol. Auditions for season 9 are about ready to start, but Paula Abdul has yet to be signed to a new contract.
Fans are in an uproar. Many feel there is no American Idol without Paula Abdul on the judging panel. Others think it is time for her to move on and go because she is the least professional of the judges.
Simon Cowell has even spoken up now, and in a shocker he is actually supporting his co-judge. Paula and Simon are known to fight a lot between them on the series, but he is supporting her to continue on alongside him.
She’ll be fine. She’ll be on the show. … I don’t get a lot of say. I’ve just made it clear that I want Paula on the show.
What do you think? Do you want Paula to continue on with Idol?
