Vanity Fair Remembers Heath Ledger

With yet another quick and tragic death making headlines around the world this week with tributes in magazines to come in the days ahead, it is odd to see another recent tragic death brought back into the spotlight, but that is what is happening. Vanity Fair has paid tribute to Heath Ledger with their August issue. They are remembering the actor with a piece that goes over his last days on this earth.

The actor was a troubled man who was acting not for fame or money, but for the craft and the respect of those others like himself. He died last January in a sudden death where drugs played a part. This is much like the current tragedy with Michael Jackson, where it is now believed an overdose is to blame.

Heath Ledger was truly one of the great younger actors of our time, and he had such potential for great things. The August Issue of Vanity Fair hits store shelves on July 1st. Check out the cover and some of the photos from inside below.

He wasn’t motivated by money or stardom, but by the respect of his peers, and for people to walk out of a movie theater after they’d seen something that he’d worked on and say, ‘Wow, he really disappeared into that character.’ He was striving to become an ‘illusionist,’ as he called it, able to create characters that weren’t there.

Celebrity Today Movie Report - 6/29

iceage3_nov21.jpg

Another Monday morning has arrived, and that means it is time to find out just what happened at the box office this weekend. There is no real big shock that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen managed to come out on top of the box office this weekend. It started its release with a $60 million dollar opening on Wednesday, and it continued on throughout the weekend. By the end of Sunday, the movie had brought it over $201 million over the five day period with $112 million over the weekend alone. The other new release this week, My Sister’s Keeper, came in fifth place with a $12 million opening weekend total.
This week, the movies come out early as we gear up for the 4th of July weekend. We have two new releases coming out on Wednesday with Public Enemies and Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs both hitting theaters. On DVD, we have The Jonas Brothers coming to store shelves along with Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. Music wise we have new music from Rob Thomas, as he releases his sophomore effort, Cradlesong. The first single off of that CD is Her Diamonds, and it has been receiving heavy play since its release in May. Check out below for a full list of this week’s releases.

Poster & Trailer: Daybreakers

Vampires are really huge right now. We have the ones that sparkle when it comes to Twilight, and New Moon will hit theaters in November. True Blood’s second season is on HBO right now, and we have even more vampires on the way in 2010 when this movie hits. Daybreakers brings Ethan Hawke back to the big screen.

The movie is set in the year 2019, and a disease has turned most of the human race into vampires. Hawke plays a researcher, Edward Dalton, trying find a cure for the disease and save the human race. However, with almost everyone on the planet a vampire, this means a source for blood is running out.

A substitute or a cure are the only options, and from the trailer it looks like something is found. Check out the trailer and poster for the movie below. Daybreakers hits theaters in January 2010. What do you think?

Poster: From Paris With Love

Looks like we have a new movie from John Travolta coming out in the near future. The poster for From Paris With Love was released earlier this week, but we won’t see the movie hit the big screen until 2010. In this one, Travolta plays a US Agent sent to Paris to stop a terrorist attack. He is partnered up with an intelligence operative played here by Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

This one was filmed just before Meyers had some troubles earlier this year where he headed into rehab in Los Angeles for a month. It looks like the stop in rehab didn’t do much for the actor though. He was arrested earlier this week at the airport in Paris after he wasn’t served at the bar because he was already too drunk. He reportedly ended up in a scuffle with one of the waiters and was later arrested.

Check out the poster for From Paris With Love below. What do you think?

The King Of Pop Dies

jackson_m_b-gr_06.jpg

If you were anywhere near a television in the last twenty-four hours, then you surely have heard this news. Yesterday was a sad day in the entertainment world as we lost not only one cultural icon but two of them. In the morning hours, we were faced with the news of the death of an angel, Farrah Fawcett. Her death, as sad as it was, had been expected to happen, especially with how her condition had worsened in recent days.

As the world began to mourn her passing, the world was hit with another blow by the afternoon when news broke that Michael Jackson had suffered a cardiac arrest and had been taken to UCLA Medical Center. Within an hour of that news breaking, we had even sadder news to report, Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, was dead at the age of 50.

A musical icon that has no match in today’s society, Michael Jackson touched many with his music and the good he did for the world. He was one of the most troubled men in this world, and that will always be part of his legacy. However, in death it is a time to focus on the good and not the bad that happened in his life. No matter what he did, there is no denying his music touched people regardless of age. Many felt his loss yesterday. From the old that watched him grow up as a little boy to those that were born later and grew up listening to hits like Thriller, Beat it and Billie Jean.

I was one of those. I was sitting here most of yesterday in shock with the rest of the world remembering about how my very album purchased for me when I was a toddler was a Michael Jackson record. Not Thriller either. Off The Wall came out when I was just three years old. My mother brought home the record one day, and I remember spending hours listening to it. Thriller only further solidified my love for the man that became the King of Pop.

As the hours pass since his death, more news has come out. The family is now saying that it is possible the singer died from an overdose of Demorol given to him by his doctor. The police are now looking for that doctor for questioning. An autopsy is now underway at the Los Angeles Coroner’s office. More will come out in the days to come, but for now we can mourn the legend that he was. Rest in peace, Michael Jackson.

Trailer & Poster: The Stepfather

It seems everywhere you look these days, you have another remake or another series made into a movie. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen broke records on Wednesday with making the most ever for a Wednesday release, an estimated $55 million with $16 million taken in during midnight showings.

Today however, we’re taking a look at The Stepfather, which is set for release this October. The original of this flick starred Terry O’Quinn, and it was one of the most terrifying movies I can remember. This one takes Dylan Walsh from Nip/Tuck, and it looks promising.

The first trailer for the film was released earlier this week, and the final moments of the trailer even made me flinch. Terry O’Quinn, as we all know, has moved on to Lost, where he plays John Locke. We will have to see how this remake does. You can check out the trailer for the flick below. What do you think?

New Inglorious Basterds Trailer

inglorious_basterds.jpg

As we get closer and closer to August, we’re getting more of a look from the next one from Brad Pitt, Inglorious Basterds. Quentin Tarantino is behind this one, and we know it tells the story of a group that went around killing nazis during World War II.

The first trailer gave us little to go on with the story. All we saw is Brad’s character ordering his men to kill any and nazis. With this new trailer, we see more of a plot to it, as the group has a plan to infiltrate a premiere in order to kill most of the higher ups in the nazi regime, including Hitler himself.

This one looks gory from start to finish, and I’m stil not too sure about it. However, with the cast and Tarantino behind it, the movie should be at least interesting. Check out the new trailer for yourself below. What do you think?

First Look At Alice In Wonderland

Last year, we first heard word of a new Alice in Wonderland film. Yes, another remake of a classic story. This time around Johnny Depp was jumping into the project playing the Mad Hatter. That immediately caught my interest. Disney and Tim Burton are behind this remake, and now we have a look at just what some of the characters will look like when this one hits the big screen.

Some character stills were released on Monday, and I for one am excited to see this one hit the big screen. Johnny Depp looks amazing here as the Mad Hatter. Next up for the actor is the fourth in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. No word yet on whether or not Keira Knightley or Orlando Bloom will return for the next installment, but Depp is on board.

Check out the character stills from Alice in Wonderland below. What do you think? Are you ready for an all new Alice in Wonderland?

Celebrity Today Movie Report - 6/22

Published by Regina Avalos under DVD, Movies, Music Edit This

megan-fox-tf2promo-01.jpg

Another Monday morning has arrived. I hope all you dads out there had a wonderful Father’s day. Now let’s take a look at the box office totals for this weekend. The Proposal from Disney managed to come out on top with $34.1 million in receipts. It managed to push down The Hangover, which already has a sequel in the works to start filming next year. Up managed to keep up with a spot in third place, while the other new release this weekend, Year One, came in fourth place with $20.2 million in receipts.

This week, we have an early release on Wednesday with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen finally hitting theaters after some unbelievable hype. Michael Bay has already said he won’t be making a third Transformers film, but will someone come in and take over the franchise? We’ll have to wait and see how this second one does when it hits theaters this week. If it is a smash hit, something tells me Michael Bay might change his mind, or someone else will gladly come in and take over.

Other releases this week include My Sister’s Keeper to theaters, Confessions of a Shopaholic and seasons of Girls Next Door and Reba to DVD, and new music from Cheap Trick and Michael Johns. Check out a full list of this week’s releases below.

New Poster: Dorian Gray

Let’s file this one under the movies I’m interested in seeing. Dorian Gray tells the story of a man who stays young while the portrait of him ages. You’ve probably read the book, and there is a chance you’ve seen the character in movie form before. Stuart Townsend played Dorian Gray on the big screen in The League of Extraordinary Gentleman.

However, this time around we have Ben Barnes playing the character in a movie set to hit theaters this fall.  We last saw Barnes as Prince Caspian in the Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.  Check out the poster for the movie below. Dorian Gray will be released in the UK on September 18th. What do you think? Also on a side note, Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there celebrating the day today.
