As a kid, I remember watching the G.I. Joe cartoons right along side Transformers, He-Man, Voltron and countless others. It seems they keep bringing back things from my childhood all the time. In June, we will have the second movie from Transformers, Tranformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and in August we will see G.I. Joe take to the big screen in G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra.
I’ve been excited to see this one for awhile now. Earlier this we we had an all new International poster for the film released. Check that out below. What do you think? Are you ready for the rise of the Cobra?
If you’re familiar with the Final Destination movies, then you might be anxiously awaiting the next movie in the series. Originally titled Final Destination: Death Trip 3-D, this fourth in the series of movies is set for release on August 28th. This means it will be the big movie to end your summer with. Nothing like a bit of horror just in time for the fall right?
This fourth in the series has gone through a few name changes, but now we know it will be called The Final Destination. Something tells me they are trying to make it clear that this is the final movie in the series. The first one came out in 2000, and the next two followed. Check out the poster for the movie below! What do you think? Are you ready for another Final Destination? Or is it all just a bit too much for you?
Fans of Buffy The Vampire Slayer have been waiting to hear about a possible movie from the series. Sarah Michelle Gellar just a month ago said she was excited about making a comeback as the slayer, but now we know if a Buffy movie is made, it won’t be the work of Joss Whedon, and we won’t see Sarah Michelle Gellar back as Buffy.
In fact, we won’t see any of the characters from the television series pop up. This new Buffy movie will be a complete revamp and reboot of the story. Not too sure how I feel about that. Buffy first came to us in a movie before the series, but when people think of Buffy they don’t think of that movie. They think of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Buffy.
This revamp would be similar to what Star Trek and Hulk. On the upside, we saw how well Trek has done, but on the flip side, we also see how revamping Hulk didn’t completely work. What do you think? Are you ready for Gellarless Buffy?
Since last summer, the fight over legalizing gay marriage in California has been mentioned on this blog. The fact that some gay couples went forward and married before the ban was reinstated in November has been at the forefront of the minds of many celebrities including Ellen Degeneres and Portia Derossi.
Many celebrities joined protests immediately after the November election, and we once again saw celebrities out protesting alongside the LGBT community as the California Supreme Court ruled on Proposition 8. Those couples that married in the months before the November election are still married, but gay marriage is now still banned in the state of California.
Part of the battle was one, but the war is not over.
The Memorial Holiday weekend is now over in the United States, and now we know just what movie managed to come out on top this weekend. Many thought that honor would go to Terminator Salvation. I even thought that honor would go to the movie. It had an extra day out in theaters, and people were highly anticipating the release of the movie.
However, we now know Terminator Salvation wasn’t able to top the box office charts domestically this weekend. Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian was the winner this weekend with a $70 million dollar opening that topped Terminator Salvation by three million dollars. Salvation pulled in $67.2 million over its release, but it only managed to pull in $53.8 million over the holiday weekend. Star Trek managed to stay strong to come in third place with a $29.4 million opening.
This week, we have four new movies hitting theaters. The most noticeable releases being Drag Me To Hell and the new release from Pixar, Up. As for other releases this week, we have a relatively light week as far as new DVD’s and new music. On DVD, we see New In Town along with seasons of Law & Order: SVU, The Closer and the entire series of Land of the Lost just in time for the new movie’s release soon. As far as music goes, we see new releases from Marilyn Manson and Mandy Moore. Check out below for a full list of new releases.
Vanessa Hudgens is staying cute and young with her next movie. The girl known for High School Musical and being on the arm of hottie Zac Efron has a new movie set for release this summer. Bandslam is set for release this August 14th. This release date would put it up against Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams as The Time Traveler’s Wife is set for release the same day. These two coming out on the same day should be interesting to see.
August is looking like it might shape up to be a good month for months. These two are coming out. Along with 9 and Inglorious Basterds. What movies are you looking forward to this summer? The big three started off our summer already. Check back tomorrow for your weekly look at how the movies did at the box office this holiday weekend in the US. Check out the poster and trailer for Bandslam below.
Twilighters are just brought more into a frenzy the closer we get to the November release date. Filming is not headed for Italy, and Robert Pattinson was just seen busy promoting things in Cannes this week. Entertainment Weekly has some new images from the movie this week.
In New Moon, Bella turns to Jacob the werewolf when she is left by her love, Edward. What do you think? Are you ready for the next movie in the series to be out already? Check out the two new images from New Moon from EW below. I know for many Twilight fans November 20th cannot come fast enough!
Twenty-five years ago, James Cameron brought Terminator to the big screen. A movie that brought us into a world where one day the world would be overtaken by machines and mankind would have to fight for their lives before they are terminated one by one. That first movie starred Linda Hamilton, Michael Biehn and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and it was the first in the series of now four movies. Yesterday, Terminator Salvation was unleashed in theaters, and we finally are allowed to see the epic battle between mankind and machines that has been talked about for twenty-five years. If you don’t want to be spoiled, stop reading now.
Christian Bale takes on the role of John Connor in this one, and we see him go through fight after fight as the leader of the resistance, even though he doesn’t have that rank. Those that work alongside him see him as their leader, and that is all that matters. In this one, we see one man sell his body to Cyberdyne systems, and this man becomes the first human/robot hybrid. Something before the T-800 that comes out looking just like Arnold. Marcus’ mission unknown to him is to bring John and Kyle, John’s father as we know, to Skynet for termination. Something he ends up doing unknowingly.
We see Marcus find out what was done to him, and in the end fight against it, letting his human side rule. He helps Connor find Kyle, saving the humans that have been taken hostage by Skynet before destroying Skynet Central in San Francisco. However, this is not the end of the war. We still have two more movies to go, and this movie pretty much wiped the third installment in the series right out. The characters were all well acted, but I think the rest of the cast stole the show from John Connor. Marcus and Blair Williams were something to watch on screen. What did you think of Terminator Salvation?
If you happened to go to the movies today to see Terminator Salvation, you might have seen the trailer for the next movie from Bruce Willis, Surrogates. In this movie, there is a world where everyone doesn’t actually live their lives. They have robots that live for them. No one dies. You can live your lives however you choose. However, people are starting to die while connected to their virtual world. The trailer for this one looked amazing, and you can check it out below. Bruce Willis still seems to have it. Tomorrow, I will have a full review of Terminator Salvation!
We are only one day away from the release of Terminator Salvation into theaters. Many have been waiting for this once since the announcement of the movie. Some have been waiting a lot longer than that. When Terminator first entered our mainstream culture back in 1984, people wanted to see the battle of the machines between humankind.
Here we are twenty-five years later, and we’re finally seeing it. John Connor is set to take on the machines in 2018 starting tomorrow. I will be going to see the movie for myself as a fan of Terminator.
However, there was also bad news in the world of Terminator this week. Fox canceled the television series in the franchise, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. The series would have gone for their third season in the fall, but low ratings put the series to rest.
Bale appears on the cover of the June 2009 issue of GQ Magazine, and yes once again he is asked about his on-set rant. Something tells me he will always be asked about that. Check out the pictures of him in GQ below.
I’d definitely say that that guy who was yelling was at least half John Connor, and the rest was Christian Bale.
