-

Recap & Review: Here it is almost Christmas, and the Walker family is still celebrating Thanksgiving. Now no family get together with this family is ever easy, and this one is included with that. This is the first year everyone is making other plans for the holiday, and these plans do not include a family Walker dinner with Nora. Of course, no one knows they are not the only ones not going to spend Thanksgiving with their mom. Everyone has made other plans except for Sarah, and no one has told Nora. No one wants to tell her either, but they finally do. This doesn’t set well with her. In fact, she even tells Sarah not to pity her and spend the day with her.

However, a Walker family crisis ends the bickering over the Thanksgiving plans quite quickly. Elizabeth has taken ill, and it appears to be an issue with her liver from the medication she took when she was born. She needs a liver transplant, but she needs it from a parent. This means the family must know what they really didn’t want to know - who is Elizabeth’s biological father. Tommy calls both Justin and Kevin to come in for testing, and this just causes problems for the family. No one really wanted to know about this.

Tommy is Elizabeth’s father, and that is that. Justin feels that way, but it isn’t too clear how Kevin feels about it.  Once the tests are complete, we find out that it was indeed Kevin that helped bring Elizabeth and her twin into the world, and Kevin goes in for the operation that should help save her life. The whole family gathers around at the hospital, as the Walker family does when there is a crisis. Sal even returns from a trip he took to spend the holiday with other relatives. Everyone is there to support Kevin, Tommy and Julia as they all want Elizabeth to be alright. There is nothing that brings this family closer together than when one of them needs help. Nora even offered some of her liver to Elizabeth.

The operation looks to be a success. Elizabeth recovers, and Nora gets her Thanksgiving wish. She has all her family together at Thanksgiving. A nice simple holiday episode that showed the meaning of family. Holly and Rebecca had a small plot this week as well with Rebecca coming up with thoughts about her own birth father, David. This played only a small part of the episode.

My problem with this episode is the following though. Whenever this family needs huge family drama, they go to Tommy. His baby died. He had the affair. He had to fire Kevin. He wants to get rid of Holly, and now Elizabeth is sick. Why is it always Tommy? Yes, all the family members have their own drama to deal with, but when it comes to huge life and death drama it comes to Tommy. This is something I have noticed just recently, and it needs to change. There really wasn’t any need to make the little girl sick. It does seem that it had some huge purpose though. It might be something that starts a series of events, but we won’t know that until the series returns in January. The Walker family is taking the holidays off! This is a show that I’ve tried to get into several times and just can’t.
