With the Thanksgiving weekend here in the United States just this past weekend, things have been relatively quiet in the entertainment world. Things will pick up a bit, December is the time of year everyone is off to spend time with their loved ones. They also head to the movies obviously. The top movie at the box office this weekend is Four Christmases, a new holiday movie starring Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn.

That movie knocked Twilight out of the top spot, even it only earned $31.4 million. This is a great dip down from the opening numbers for the top movie the last two weekend. Twilight didn’t even come in second place this week. That honor went to Bolt with $26.6 million. Twilight earned $26.4 million, so there is a chance for a flip flop when final numbers come in. It is kind of shocking to see such a big drop in numbers for Twilight, but plans are already moving ahead for the sequel. Shooting for that should begin in March.

As for the other big movie released this holiday weekend, we can safely say now that Australia bombed big time. The tale of that was shown early on when the movie came in seventh place in its first day out. Over the five day period, the movie made $20 million. As for the weekend itself, Australia came in fifth place with just a little over $14 million in box office earnings.

Looking at what is coming out in the week ahead, three movies are being released to theaters in wide release - Cadillac Records, Extreme Movie and Punisher: War Zone. Cadillac Records is one I have mentioned on this blog a few times in the past month. Fans of DVD releases also have a lot to choose from this week as we have a number of new arrivals including Prince Caspian, Wanted, X-Files: I Want To Believe and The Longshots. Music wise, we will see the return of Britney Spears with the release of her CD Circus on Tuesday. For a full list of this week’s releases, check after the jump.
