Recap & Review: Californication is getting closer to winding down their season. The last episode of this season is set to air on December 14th, and we can tell we’re getting close to the end. At the end of last week’s episode, Karen found a mysterious lump in Hank’s groin air following a night of sex. These two are always on again and off again, so it is no surprise that right now they appear to be on again. After this mysterious lump is discovered, it becomes time to deal with it.

Karen is right there by his side in the doctor’s office while he waits to be checked out. She is there by his side when the doctor decides he wants to take a biopsy, and she remains by his side while he waits the results of the procedure. This is something that confuses their daughter Becca. She wants to know just what the heck is going on, but they decide not to tell her. This is nothing new. They probably don’t know what is going on between them either.

We do get a look into the past of these two though. While he is waiting about his future, Hank looks back at the start of his relationship with Karen. It appears these two didn’t start in the best of ways. They were both cheating on their significant others at the time, and this is when Karen discovers she is pregnant with Hank’s child. She discovers that the morning Kurt Cobain is found dead, which appears to be an important event in the lives of the both of them. They spend that one day going back and forth over what they should do about the child, and at the end of the day they end up together.

This is what Hank wants to happen now. Karen is still the woman he wants to be with. He wants her to be there the day he dies, and that is just how it is for him. He wants to do it right this time though, even after finding out that his new friend kissed his woman. This is something that causes him to chase after Ashby in Karen’s kitchen, but once that is done the two are fine. As is Hank. His results come back from the doctor, and all he needs is some antibiotics to take care of the problem.

We don’t see much of Charlie this week, but Daisy decides she is giving up porn. She wants the memory of Charlie being the last man she had sex with on screen. However, Charlie wants more than that. He wants her it looks like, and he is ignoring the fact that his wife is now coming home from rehab. This episode made Hank think, and it made him a little less invincible. It made him realize what is important in his life, and that is Karen and Becca. Will this be a positive change for him? I hope so. For me, it brought Hank back down to earth. What did you think of this episode of Californication?
