Recap & Review:  With next week’s episode, this first season of True Blood will come to an end. Things have been slowly building to this point with several story lines, and next week every thing will come to some type of conclusion until the series returns in 2009. Yes, this series will be returning! Last week, we saw Bill deal with the consequences of him killing another of his kind, while he left Sookie in Sam’s care. During their time together, she finds out he is a shape shifter, and the killer comes after her.

This week, a lot happens. Let’s first start with Bill. He needs to finish the process of turning Jessica. This involves the two of them sleeping in the ground. Once she is awake again, she immediately starts acting unlike he suspected she would. She wants to kill. She wants to hunt. He tries to control her, but he can’t. She won’t listen to him. He takes her to meet Eric, and he asks the other vampire to help him control and teach her. This comes at a cost to him, but he still wants Eric to do it. He wants to return to Sookie.

Sookie is spending her time trying to find who the killer is. Sam never leaves her side, and he helps her try to figure out what she has seen in her visions. She is dealing with her knowledge that he is a shape shifted, and the two of them become closer during their time together. In her vision, she sees a young girl murdered. The young girl is a waitress from another town, and her brother disappeared after her death. Her brother is named Drew Marshall, and Sookie convinces the deputy at the other town to send a picture to the sheriff of her town. When we see the picture of Drew, he is someone quite familiar to us all! Jason’s best friend.

Jason is having his own issues though. He has no idea what to do with Amy. Last week, she killed Eddie, and that was the last thing Jason wanted to do. He now wants them both to stop taking V, and to be happy together. If she isn’t willing, he will end their relationship. However, something happens when they fall asleep. They go somewhere in their dreams, and when Jason wakes up Amy is dead. He thinks he killed her, and he turns himself in. He confesses to all the killings, but we know he isn’t the killer. The cops think they have their man though.

As for Tara, she has also been arrested after the accident. She was obviously drunk, and her own mother won’t even bail her out. Having nowhere to go, she takes the help of a woman that comes to bail her out. A type of social worker. We do recognize her though. This is the woman saw when Tara ran off the road. Just fully dressed and clean. No hog either! Tara truly feels she has nowhere to go, but she doesn’t know both Sookie and Sam have been trying to reach other.

Sam has no problem acting on his feelings when it comes to Sookie though. The two kiss just moments before Bill arrives at Sookie’s. When he sees Sam touching her, he loses control. The two fight, but Sookie eventually stops them. In a surprising move, Sookie revokes Bill’s permission to enter her home. He must leave. Lastly, a minor story line deals with Lafayette and one of his connections. When the politician speaks out against both vampires and gays, he is upset and he shows up at one of the politician’s events.

I know I will be sad when this series ends its season next week. It has become the best part of my Sunday night, and I know I am not alone. I’ve even picked up the books to read, and I am looking forward to diving into those once the season comes to an end. This series is unlike many of television, and it offers another mythology when it comes to vampires. What did you think of this week’s episode True Blood?

I liked this episode. I’ve read all the books so far (been a fan for years), but I understand that it’s insanely hard to transfer a book to the screen. I like all the changes they’ve made except for Sookie. I’m excited to see what the finale is going to be like and what the next season brings.
Didn’t think they’d introduce the “hog lady” so soon, but it makes sense. My favorite part had to be when Bill tried to talk back to Eric. I laughed so hard! Then when Eric was wrangling in Jessica so easily. Lord knows that chick’s going to be something else if Eric’s in charge. Once again, Sookie’s my least favorite character, but that’s okay. I’ve got the books to reread. I think Sam’s really grown on me since the show first aired. The actor plays the character spot on and we get to see on screen what made him such a great character in books- well, barring this episode… lol
I think you’ll enjoy the books and I’m happy to hear there will be a second season.
