Ghost Whisperer Episode 4-7

TV.com: Threshold - Melinda has a hard time helping a troubled teenage ghost while Melinda deals with drastic changes to her personal life.

Recap & Review: In last week’s episode of Ghost Whisperer, we saw something we had heard about and hoped wouldn’t happen. Jim died leaving Melinda alone, and once again dealing with the death of someone she loves. At the end of season one, she lost her best friend. This is only so much more. Jim is the love of her life, and now we are left to wonder what will happen now. The writer’s say this death will open up the series to so much more, but I am wondering if that will be the case. I just don’t see Melinda loving anyone else. Could Ghost Whisperer have jumped the shark? We’ll have to wait and see.
This week’s episode start with Jim about to crossover. His brother that died is waiting for him, but Jim doesn’t want to leave yet. He wants to make sure Melinda is alright. He goes to her, but she has lost her gift. We know this is temporary because her grief is temporarily blinding her. She doesn’t even see the ghost of a teen girl that is causing trouble in her own home. Every time the girl acts out, Melinda thinks it is Jim. It isn’t though. He doesn’t leave her side, and it is only at his funeral when his best friend decides to celebrate the fact Jim was in their lives that Melinda finally sees him.
This only starts a painful journey. Jim doesn’t want to leave Melinda, but she knows he needs to crossover. She has helped hundreds of ghosts do this very thing during her life time. It would be selfish of her to keep Jim with her, but he sees it as his decision and not hers. He wants to stay. He wants to be with her. She wants nothing more than to be with him, but not like he is now. She can wait to be with him until she joins him in death. During all of this, the ghost of the girl is still making her presence known. Jim sees her in town, and Melinda finally sees her as well in her home. She asks Melinda to forgive him, but Melinda has no idea who the girl is talking about.
Jim decides to go to Eli to help Melinda. Eli can hear him, and Jim is learning how to control things as a spirit. He convinces Eli to help him, but Melinda wants nothing to do with ghosts since Jim’s death. Jim still doesn’t crossover, even when his brother and father go without him. As for the spirit of the teen girl, it turns out she is the spirit of the stepdaughter of the man that caused Jim’s death. The girl wants Melinda to forgive him. That is the him, but Melinda is not even close to being willing to do that. Her stepfather was the detective that shot Jim.
Jim and Eli had done their own detective work, and they found the girl. However, they didn’t find the connection to Jim’s death. As it turns out, the girl had died of anorexia. Her heart had stopped before anyone even knew she was suffering from it. This hit the detective hard, and he went back to work far too soon. Jim’s death has only made things harder on the man. Even with her asking him to leave, Jim has stayed with her and she tells him all of this. Melinda goes to meet him and she tells him that she forgives him. She also tells him that his stepdaughter is still with him. He doesn’t believe it at first, but Melinda goes on to tell him all the girl say. She even tells him Jim forgives him as well. The girl crosses over, but Jim once again stays.
This is where things get interesting. Melinda once again tells Jim to do the right thing and crossover. We think he is about to do that, but they come across the scene of an accident where a man dies. In a split second moment, Jim’s spirit enters the body of the man and comes back to life. However, the man doesn’t recognize Melinda. From the previews for next week, this will change, but it will take time it looks like.
Now this is one thing I never expected. I thought we would see Jim die and crossover. This does offer the series something after all, and I’m excited to see what Ghost Whisperer does next. This episode had me in tears from the start. The moments showing Melinda in her grief with Jim not being seen were just heart wrenching. This is one of the best episodes of this series in quite some time. For daily tv listings, check here.

I have been a fan of this show since day 1, I was a little taken back when I read that Jim was going to die, not knowing where they where headed with this show.
Like all of the GW viewers, I loved Jim and Mel together, and its going to be interesting to watch this new relationship come to life now.
But I must say, that I was once again surprised when Jim’s soul entered into the accident victims body and then he didn’t recognize Mel, but we will learn in next weeks episode that he does feel like he knows her.
I love Ghost Whisperer. I’m way behind you though episode-wise, as Jim hasn’t died yet where I am. Though it’s sad, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise - I knew something major would happen to him one day - it was just a matter of time.
Maybe the actor that plays Jim has left the show, so the writers wanted to look for another way to keep the character in.
