Recap & Review: The main focus the last couple of episodes has been on the budding lesbian romance of Hahn and Torres. These two have been trying to take it slow, but this episode starts with that idea going out the window. The two sleep together, but Callie has issues. She goes to Sloan for advice the next day because she just couldn’t go all the way down. Instead of helping her, he walks away cause instead of it being hot it is just depressing.
As for the hospital, they are trying to get their name back on the map. Derek getting recognition for the clinical trial he and Meredith is a start, but he is the only one mentioned as part of the clinical trial. Bailey is also looking to help put Seattle Grace back on the map with a special procedure. A domino surgery. 12 kidney transplants. Six removals and six insertions. This needs to go off without one issue, and she will need all her surgeons to do it.
The team starts to work on preparing everyone for surgery, but there are problems immediately. One woman looks to have no connection to anyone involved, but she is still a part of the procedure. People keep complimenting her for helping like she is. However, there is a secret. She is having an affair with one of the other men being operated on, and when his wife finds out she backs out of her own procedure. This puts the whole procedure in jeopardy. The young woman having the affair has no problem giving up a kidney for the man she loves. She thinks this will make the man leaves his wife. The team not only has this procedure, but they need to find interns to give to George since he is now a resident.
The procedure has the desired result. It gets Seattle Grace attention, but the procedure is still up in the air. If this one woman backs out, everyone else will. The surgeons are all working to keep things going. Izzie and Alex fight, and Meredith is unable to find a match. This ends the procedure. Chief tells Bailey to send everyone home. However, the woman ends up changing her mind. She decides to go forward with the transplant, and this puts the procedure back in motion. Everything is going well until Meredith drops one of the kidney’s. Bailey puts forth the five second rule here! Luckily, the kidney isn’t damaged, and the procedure appears to be completed successfully. Almost anyway. One man is having complications. The man that had the affair has nothing to do with his mistress after she gives up her kidney, and this is something that upsets her.
George finally gets his interns, and Lexie is upset because he didn’t pick her for his team. She calls him a jerk because he didn’t get it. Alex and Izzie also have a role reversal as he goes to the son of the one transplant patient and goes off on him. As for the lesbian romance, Callie tells Erica it wasn’t so good for her, and this upsets Hahn. This isn’t good for Callie either. She once again goes to Sloan for lessons on how to go down. He is only to willing to teach her his technique, especially after she calls him a genius. The day ends with a stop at Joe’s. Derek finally thanks Meredith for her work with him on the clinical trial, and he gives her a kidney. Something oddly amusing. Callie decides to give lesbian sex another go, and in a shocker Izzie goes to Alex with a plea, and these two end up back together. Now that one I didn’t see coming.
This was one episode full of surprises. The lesbian couple, Alex and Izzie, Lexie finally confessing her feelings to George in a roundabout way, and Derek and Meredith dealing with their issues almost adult like. Cristina needs a man though, and it looks like one just walked into Joe’s. Kevin McKidd returns in next week’s episode. That should be interesting! What did you think of this week’s episode? I think Cristina’s “itch” is gonna get scratched by the handsome Army doctor who kissed her “hard” on a recent episode. Welcome back Kevin McKidd. You must be “Doctor McKidding.”
HAH! That is a good one for him.
