Thoughts on My Own Worst Enemy

As a fan of Christian Slater, I had to tune in to see this new series from NBC that premiered on Monday night. In this series, Slater plays a man living two lives. One is a family man, and the other appears to be some kind of agent for the US Government. We see him switch back and forth from each persona with the help of a computer chip in his brain. One doesn’t know about the other until the chip appears to malfunction when he is on a job.
He is taken hostage as his normal persona, and this starts a confusing ball into motion. He has to learn all about his agent man persona, his friends and his life all anew. This would be one huge blow to any person. We follow this man for the episode as he tries to go back and forth between personas. Edward enjoys Henry’s life, and Henry tries to figure out just what his life is all about. All of this while a man tries to find Edward and kill him.
He finally finds Henry at his home, and this is when Henry tells him he is two people living in one body. This doesn’t matter to the man. He will kill the man, no matter if its Henry or Edward he is killing. To him he is one and the same. However, Edward or Henry has another plan. He kills the man instead. We learn that Edward had made a video for his other persona to help him stay alive. The two start trading videos to keep their other persona up to date on what happened while they were out as well.
This series was a pleasant surprise to me. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I turned this series on. Within the first five minutes, this series reminded me of one of Christian Slater’s earlier roles in Pump Up The Volume. In that one, he also played two very different personas - the shy and quiet high school student and the pirate radio shock jock. There is the same idea in this series, and we see Christian really work here. It is great to see him back on the screen. What did you think of this series premiere? Will you be tuning in to see future episodes of My Own Worst Enemy? I will be, but whether or not I will cover this series weekly on my blog is still to be to decided.

I missed it, which is a bummer because I’ve always loved Christian Slater (and I remember Pump Up the Volume!) back from Legend of Billie Jean days. Darn that night job! Hopefully I’ll be able to catch summer reruns?
P.S. I just noticed the new header - very nice!
Thanks for the recommendation I have it on my DVR to watch
