Review: Last season, the series ended with what Melinda thought was a bad omen. This week, the fourth season of the series opened up with it being four months later. Melinda and Jim are still trying to have a baby, unsuccessful. While the two talk, Jim is called to the scene of a fire. Melinda thinks it the same building Payne has his office in, so she goes with her husband. However, he is perfectly fine. The same can’t be said about some of those in the building. The focus goes on one man from the building named Eli.

Apparently, he can see ghosts like Melinda can because he is having a conversation with a woman that died in the building. He doesn’t know he has this power. Melinda figures this out when she goes to see him again, and she speaks to another ghost in his room. He can hear her, but he thinks it is someone else talking. Eli cannot see them, but he can hear them all. Payne is already preparing to leave on sabbatical. Someone calls Melinda to a bar to help Eli because he is freaking out.

Apparently, ghosts are attacking him for help, and this ability is new to him. It came to be on the night of the fire when he almost died. This is an adjustment for him. As he is taking in this information, Fiona comes to him followed by a very alive police officer. They want to question Eli about the fire. Melinda tells him he needs to use Fiona’s ghost to help clear his name. The cops think he started the fire.

Eli has to tell Melinda more about his relationship with Fiona. He goes in detail about their relationship. Fiona had gone to him for treatment about a dead end long distance relationship. She then goes for more information with Fiona’s friends. They tell Melinda Eli had a romantic interest in Fiona, but she wasn’t interested in him like that. However, when we see Fiona once again  this might not be true. We learn that Fiona is now a firestarter. She even starts a small one in Eli’s office.

We keep leaning more about her. Fiona’s past is jaded at best, and it appears she has started several fires or said she did. Melinda thinks Fiona is covering up the true fire causers. When Melinda continues to check into things, Fiona finally comes to her and threatens her just before setting fire to the room Melinda is in. Paine and Eli try to figure out who Fiona’s boyfriend is, but they finally figure out she didn’t have a boyfriend, but a brother.

Christian, the man she lives with, is her brother, and he is the one responsible for the fires. He is trying to prove something by starting another, and he doesn’t care if he dies as well. He’s locked him and Melinda in the archives. Fiona is able to go to Eli though and tell him what Christian has done. Jim is also called. A spirit saves her though. This isn’t the first time Melinda has been saved. Fiona tells Melinda more about her family and her brother Christian. He has been arrested. Before Fiona crosses over, Eli finally admits his feelings for her.

At the end of the episode, we see Melinda say good-bye to Payne before he leaves on his sabbatical. Jay Mohr has left the series. Ghost Whisperer had its off season troubles. Two of the shows sets were destroyed by fire over the summer when the Universal back lot caught fire. Having a fire start the season seems to be a weird way to go knowing this happened in real life, but it could also be seen as a cleansing way of dealing with what happened. This happens to be another good series, one of the few I enjoy on CBS. What did you think of the fourth season premiere?

I really don’t like Ghostwhisperer it is a programme I have never watched merely because I don’t believe that ghost’s are good and I have faith in God so watching this programme would not be something I would enjoy. I know it has a cult following though and you reviewed it well.

I thought it was great. I love this show. They are killing me, though, with the suspense of what is coming. You know something bad is going to happen.
