Celebrity Today Movie Report - 9/22

Fall has finally arrived, and it is the beginning of the week. This means it is time for another look at the box office. However, there isn’t much to see once again. Numbers are depressing at best. After an amazing summer movie season, the fall movies aren’t bringing in people to the seats. Four movies were released this weekend, and only one topped $15 million. Lakeview Terrace took the top spot at the box office this weekend with $15.6 million in earnings.

This knocked the Brad Pitt spy comedy, Burn After Reading, into second place with $11.3 million in earnings. My Best Friend’s Girl, the new release from actress Kate Hudson, came in third place with $8.3 million. This is her first R-rated movie venture, and it is her worst opening since Alex & Emma a few years ago. The Dark Knight is still barely holding onto the top ten as well with an additional $2.9 million in earnings. That movie is set to hit $1 billion in world wide box office numbers.

In the week ahead, we have a number of new releases hitting theaters. The two biggest are the next one by Shia LaBeouf, Eagle Eye, and the latest novel by Nicholas Sparks turned film, Nights in Rodanthe. This one stars Richard Gere and Diane Lane, who have worked together well in the past. Anyone remember Unfaithful? We will have to wait and see if we have another The Notebook on our hands this weekend.

As for DVD releases, we have Sex & The City: The Movie heading onto DVD, along with a new soundtrack to the movie.  George Clooney also makes an appearance on DVD this week with Leatherheads. Fans of Christina Applegate can find the first season of Samantha Who on store shelves this week too. Another ABC series, Brothers & Sisters also hits stores this week. Music fans have new offerings from Pussycat Dolls and Kings of Leon to pick up. Check under the cut for a full list of this week’s releases.
