It is the beginning of a new week, and that means it is time for my weekly look at the box office and the releases coming out in the week ahead. The last few weekends at the box office had been quite depressing with some extremely low numbers. Last week’s number one didn’t even managed to top ten million in box office receipts.  This week, that didn’t happen. Brad Pitt and George Clooney dominated the box office with their new spy comedy, Burn After Reading.

That movie topped the box office with an approximate $19.4 million in ticket sales. The other three new releases this week fell in behind Burn After Reading.  The Family That Preys from Tyler Perry, Righteous Kill and The Women came in second, third and fourth respectively. The Dark Knight is still in the top ten this week coming in sixth place and earning another four million to add onto its already impressive total.

Now in the week ahead, we have several new releases including the latest romantic comedy from Kate Hudson. Dane Cook had come out to speak about this one last month when he didn’t like the poster. How will the movie do? The latest thriller from Samuel L. Jackson also hits the box office this weekend as the actor plays a racist cop who has to deal with the fact an interracial couple has moved in next door to him. This is something he isn’t too happy about.

On DVD, we have Made of Honor, The Love Guru and 88 minutes hitting store shelves. The Love Guru had a depressing box office, but perhaps it will pick up on DVD. Seasons of Dirty Sexy Money, Private Practice, Pushing Daisies and Will & Grace also hit stores shelves along with some new music from Ne-Yo, Nelly, The Cure and Buck Cherry.
