This is the first full week of the fall movie season here in the United States, and the numbers certainly fell short of perfection with not many going to the movies this week at all. The number one movie at the box office this week ended up being Bangkok Dangerous, the latest action movie from Nicholas Cage. The movie didn’t even break over eight million in earnings with just $7.8 million in box office receipts. Tropic Thunder came in second place with $7.5 million. The Dark Knight stayed in the top five with a fourth place finish with $5.7 million.

As for new releases in the week ahead, this Friday we have new movies from Brad Pitt and Al Pacino both hitting the big screen. Burn After Reading has just hit both the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto Film Festival this past weekend. This movie pairs up Brad Pitt with George Clooney once again, while Righteous Kill pairs up Al Pacino with Robert Deniro once again. Which duo will come out on top next weekend? For that we have to wait until next Monday.

As far as DVD releases go, we have Baby Mama coming to DVD, and a large number of TV series also hitting store shelves. Check back tomorrow for my look at the releases of both Grey’s Anatomy and Ugly Betty to DVD. New music from Metallica, Jessica Simpson, as she goes country, and LL Cool J is also ready to hit stores on Tuesday. Hopefully with some big names hitting the box office this weekend, the numbers won’t be so depressingly low next Monday. For a full list of releases, check after the cut.
