Quick Bits: Spiderman 4 and Nottingham

In the movie business, things are constantly in motion. Some new developments come to us from the world of Spiderman. Many thought that after the third film was released Tobey and Sam would leave the franchise, but they have signed on, and now Kirsten Dunst has let the cat out of the bag and said she is definitely in for Spiderman 4. She is currently out promoting her latest movie with Simon Pegg.

In other movie news, Russell Crowe is on for Ridley Scott’s Nottingham, but we have an odd development here. It looks like Crowe will end up doing double duty in this film. He will be playing both Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham. Yes, both roles. Ridley Scott is keeping things tightly under wraps, but he has said the actor is doing double duty in the film. Not too sure what I think of that, but it could prove interesting. What do you think?

Review: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Episode 2-4

tscc-204-promos-1.jpg

TV.com: Allison From Palmdale - Cameron has a software glitch and loses her memory, causing her to leave the Connors. She is taken in by a homeless kid named Jody, who ends up at a halfway house with her. Meanwhile, Agent Ellison meets with Catherine Weaver to talk about his future with Zeira Corp.

-

Review:  We are into the fourth episode of this second season of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and things aren’t looking good for the series. Word has it that ratings for the series are low, and if they remain this low Fox will not ask for any more episodes to be made, and no third season. Ratings need to go up if we want this series to remain on air. This week, we get a deeper look into Cameron’s character and history.

The episode clearly begins in a flash forward, but we jump back to the present with Cameron and John. They are out running errands, while Sarah returns home. The woman they rented the house from appears to be having difficulties with her pregnancy. Sarah offers to take her to the hospital. While at the store, Cameron has an episode and she appears to forget her identity. She keeps flashing back to her past. As it turns out, she was once a human named Allison Young.Because she can’t remember who she is, she is taken into custody.

John goes inside the store to look for Cameron, and he finds out Cameron was taken. She is released just moments he arrives at the police station. He is told she went off with Jodi. He begins to look for her, when Sarah calls him from the hospital. She is still there with Casey, who is having tests done.  Cameron is on the streets of Los Angeles with Jodi, and she is acting unlike the terminator we know. She is acting human.

Present and future go back and forth, and we learn more about Allison Young in the process. We learn she was homeless, and her father was an architect and her mother was a music teacher. Her birthday was July 22nd.  John does find her, but she has no idea at all who he is.  After his visit though, she starts to remember who she is, but she also thinks she is supposed to kill John Connor. In the future, we see Allison Young killed by her terminator double, Cameron. Events mirror future and present, and as Cameron remembers things she almost kills Jodi just before John finds her.

Meanwhile, Catherine Weaver continues to work with Agent Ellison. She really does want him to work with her company. He has his questions and doubts about her. He learns more about her and the company, but not enough to realize she is a terminator. He ends up accepting her job proposal.

This episode was drawn out and confusing. Not one of the best episodes this season, but it was alright. I found it hard to focus on it because of the constanting jumping around, and it is not a choppy episode that will help them stay on the air. What did you think of this week’s episode?

Review: Brothers & Sisters Episode 3-1

TV.com: Glass Houses - The Walkers go to the beach for a family vacation but things turn ugly; meanwhile, Kevin arranges a getaway weekend for him and Scotty but things take a turn when a face from the past contacts him. Trouble awaits the Walkers as one gets fired and one gets blackmailed!

-

Review: Last season, ended with a few shocking revelations for the Walker family. Rebecca didn’t turn out to be a Walker after all, Scotty and Kevin married, Kitty decided to adopt with her husband, the family company ended up in the hands of Holly, and Sarah and Kevin found out they might have a brother instead of a sister they thought they had. All of this before Justin and Rebecca ended up as a couple at the end of the season finale.

This season starts off with Sarah writing a glowing letter of recommendation for Kitty on her quest for adoption. Kitty doesn’t think Sarah wrote it herself, and we learn that she didn’t.  Nora wrote the glowing letter for Sarah. Meanwhile, it appears the Walker clan doesn’t know that Rebecca and Justin are an item. As for the business side of things, Holly and Tommy make a critical business decision about the company. They want to get rid of the legal team, and this would put Kevin out of a job at Ojai Foods.

Sarah and Kevin are working on finding out about the new Walker brother, while they are trying to keep this new fact in their life secret from everyone. In order to cover it up when Kitty catches them talking, Kevin has to invite everyone to his romantic getaway spot. It turns into a Walker party. At lunch, Sarah does nothing but complain about her life, while Kitty questions her on the letter. No one is happy that Kevin is set to be fired, and Nora goes to Holly about it. A confrontation that doesn’t end up  going well at all. All of this happens before the two youngest Walker’s catch Rebecca and Justin making out.

The family arrives in Laguna, and we all know that a Walker get together never goes perfectly. Kevin is about to be partner, and he has no idea he is about to be fired from Ojai. Nora tries to talk Tommy about it, and she learns that Holly had nothing to do with firing Kevin. It was all Tommy’s idea. Kevin is on cloud nine though. He sends the sisters outside, while he steals a moment with Scotty. Kitty confronts Sarah on the letter, and Sarah breaks down and tells Kitty about their new brother. All of this before a crash is heard inside. The kids break a priceless item, but Justin covers for them.

The next crash comes when the family explodes after Kitty confronts Nora on the letter. All of the secrets being hidden come out.  Everyone finds out about Ryan. Justin tells everyone about him and Rebecca, and Sarah puts the final nail into the coffin by telling Kevin he is fired. Everyone parts ways, and Tommy goes to look for Kevin. They talk, but it doesn’t go well. It doesn’t go well with Rebecca and Justin either. She’s upset he told. Sarah decides to show up on Kitty’s doorstep to talk, but she isn’t even let in. Kitty needs to work out their relationship in her own head.  As for Rebecca and Justin, the two are able to talk and work things out. The same can’t be said for Kitty and Sarah. Kitty no longer trusts her sister, but that is partially solved when Kitty reads Sarah’s own letter.

Brothers & Sisters is family drama at its best. No one is left out. We follow the lives of this one complex family each and every week, and there isn’t a quiet moment. This series is one of the best on ABC, and I am so glad to see it back on Sunday night. What did you think of this week’s episode?

Celebrity Today Movie Report For 9/29

It is another Monday morning, and that means it is now time for our weekly look at the movies. It has been a busy weekend for me and at the box office. Things slowed down a bit here over the weekend because I was in the middle of a move. That is now complete, so I am ready to move forward with all the latest in movie, television and celebrity news for you here at Celebrity Today. This week was a better week than the last few at the box office. We finally saw one movie hit over $20 million at the box office, and it actually almost hit $30 million.

The latest from Shia LaBeouf, Eagle Eye, took the top spot at the box office this weekend. His life has been quite interesting lately since the car accident he was in a couple of months ago. He wasn’t charged in the accident. That news came out just at the end of last week, but there is a chance he still might lose his license. The other big movie release of the weekend, Nights in Rodanthe, starring Diane Lane and Richard Gere also did well this weekend. It earned $13.6 million at the box office, which is the biggest first weekend opening for either actor since they teamed up together for Unfaithful in 2002.

This week’s releases to the big screen include Blindness and Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Michael Cera also returns to the big screen in Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist. We will have to see if the numbers keep going up at the box office, or if they drop back down to depressing levels like they were at in recent weeks. On DVD, we have Iron Man hitting store shelves, along with Forgetting Sarah Marshall.  If you are fan of television, several series are hitting stores this week, including the entire series box set for Beauty and the Beast. Music fans also have a lot to be excited about this week with new releases from Nina Simone, Tina Turner and David Bowie. Check out after the cut for a full list of what is hitting this week.

Review: Californication Season 2 Premiere

caliepisode2-1.jpg

TV.com: Slip Of The Tongue - Hank gets a vasectomy, and the reunited couple plan to return to New York.

-

Review: Last year, we saw David Duchovny return to Showtime in an all-new series, Californication. He had last appeared on Showtime as the man behind Red Shoe Diaries. Duchovny brought to life Hank Moody, an aging writer who had no problem with any woman he finds, even if he is still in love with his ex. Over the course of twelve episodes, we watch Hank deal with his ex marrying another man and trying to raise his daughter. By the end of the season, he gets his ex back, and we’re left waiting for what happens next. Now the wait is over.

This season opens with us seeing the happy couple together. They are having sex, but they have an issue with condoms. Hank decides to go in and have a vasectomy to avoid wearing condoms with Karen. The next decision the couple makes together is a move to New York. Their daughter doesn’t seem too keen on the move, but Hank and Karen want to move. In order to help ease the pain of the surgery, Hank grabs ice, and he picks the worst time. The real estate agent trying to sell his home shows up.

He then goes to the market, and bumps into a woman he once slept with. She offers him another round, but he has to decline for many reasons. Karen calls when he is there, and he goes to looking for their daughter. He finds her at her old home with her once step sister. Pete Wentz makes an appearance in this episode at this time. He talks to Mia, and she still has not come clean about the work of his she stole. It is being published as a memoir in her name. Next we see Hank and Karen out with their friends, and he meets up with yet another woman from his past.

Karen and Hank decide to have sex at the party, but there is a problem. Hank gets lost in the house, and he ends up going down on the wrong woman.  The two leave the party arguing, and a cop pulls him over. Karen tells the cop he was drinking, and the situation goes from bad to worse. When the cop makes a comment about Karen, Hank hits the officer, and the officer hits back. We see Hank knocked out just as the credits start to roll. This happens to be one of my favorite series from last year. It is different and more provocative than most television on air currently, and Duchovny stands out in this series. This was a great way to start the new season. What did you think?

Review: True Blood Episode 1-4

tb_ep_104.jpg

TV.com: Escape From Dragon House: When one of Merlotte’s barmaids is murdered, all fingers point to Jason. And Sookie goes to new territory to find the truth and prove her brother’s innocence.
-
Review:  Last week, we saw Sookie go to Dawn’s house to wake her up, but it is going to take a whole lot to wake her from the sleep she is in. Dawn was killed overnight. Jason shows up minutes after Sookie in order to apologize after the fight he and Dawn had the night before. Dawn’s neighbor shows up moments after this, and she points the blame for Dawn’s death immediately on Jason, even though he is innocent. The police are called in immediately. The neighbors buzz with all that has happened, and the cops interview Sookie. They tell her she shouldn’t have covered the body.

Even with Jason saying he is innocent, he is taken away in cuffs from the crime scene. In order to hide the vampire blood in his possession, he drinks all of it. This is one very big mistake. Sam comes to comfort Sookie after he hears about how she found Dawn. The cops interview Jason at the police station, and they confuse him into practically confessing that he killed both girls. While he is being interviewed, he starts to feel the effects of the vampire blood.

After a few painful moments, Tara shows up and she pulls him out of the station, and she even gives him an alibi. She says they were together the night before when Dawn was killed. However, we all know that Tara was with Sam. She tells Sam what she did, and he is angry, but we know he won’t say anything. As for Jason, he keeps having a problem. No matter how much he masturbates he stays hard. He goes to Lafayette for help on how to solve the issue at hand, but there is nothing he can do. Jason is stuck with an erection from hell. Tara takes him to the hospital once she sees his condition, and the doctor treats him, quite painfully I may add.

We finally see Bill come into the bar that night, and Sookie has been listening in on people’s thoughts at the bar to clear Jason.  When Bill arrives, Sookie asks him to take her to the vampire bar in order to see what she can find out there. At the vamp bar, we are allowed to see the vampires in this world in all their glory. Bill is called to see the main vampire in the bar, and Bill goes to him with Sookie. Sookie asks him about the two dead women, but he doesn’t offer her much in the way of information.

Moments after they speak, Sookie learns that the cops are set to raid the vampire bar. Bill takes her out of there moments before they arrive. On the way back to town, the two pull over, but just before they kiss, a cop pulls up behind them. In order to deal with the officer, Bill glams him. Before the episode ends, we see Sam use his keys to get into Dawn’s apartment, and he has a bit of sexy time in her sheets. At least that is what it looks like. Could be wrong there. We all know there is more to Sam than we’ve been shown so far.

This week’s episode was another strong one for True Blood. We keep learning more about the vampires in this world as we see Bill and Sookie get closer together. This is turning into one of my favorite series on air at the moment. What did you think of this week’s episode?

A Look At - Paul Newman

paul_newman_leo_fuchs_a03_157.jpg

This weekend we have lost one of Hollywood’s true legends, actor Paul Newman. He passed away at home Friday night after being diagnosed with lung cancer in June. It was one of his last wishes to die at home. At the age of 83, the actor had lived a full life, and even in recent years he has still worked on the screen he loved and that loved him. Over the years, he has done so many films it is hard to pick one role for him that stands out as vintage Paul Newman.

In a statement released by his family following his death, they said, “His death was as private and discreet as the way he had lived his life, a humble artist who never thought of himself as ‘big’, surrounded by his beloved family and the close circle of friends.” He might not have thought of himself as big, but they really didn’t come much bigger. Over the years, he has worked both in front of and behind the camera, driven race cars professionally and even had his own company that made spaghetti sauces and salad dressings.

His last appearance on film was in the HBO miniseries, Empire Falls. After that, he only contributed voice work, including offering his voice to Doc Hudson in Pixar’s Cars. Over the years though, Paul Newman had a role in over fifty films. Some of his most memorable include those he starred in with friend and fellow actor Robert Redford as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.  One of my favorite films Paul Newman has ever done is The Color of Money. I was young when it came out, and I saw it for Tom Cruise, but it was Newman that stood out. He won an Academy Award for that performance.

Paul Newman was a true gentleman, and an actor not like many we have alive today. He will be missed by many. Share your thoughts of the man and his work in comments. Below is a clip of some of his best scenes from youtube. May he rest in peace.

Review: Supernatural Episode 4-2

sn402__009.jpg

TV.com: Are You There God? It’s Me, Dean Winchester - Ghosts of children Bobby couldn’t save cripple him with guilt and Sam and Dean must save him. However, they must also ignore the spirits of Meg and Agent Hendricksen, who have come back to accuse the brothers of failing them.

-

Last week, we saw Dean brought back from hell, and we find out it was by an angel working for God. Dean is needed to do work.  The episode opens with the killing of another hunter by demons. We then jump to Bobby and the Winchester brothers trying to discover if Dean was indeed brought back an angel. Ruby visits Sam, and she is scared of the angel that brought Dean back. She also warns Sam.

This happens just before the three go to check on the hunter Bobby had been trying to get a hold of. The woman we saw killed in the opening moments of the episode. Once they find her dead, they learn that she might be the only one. Every hunter they have tried to call in the area has not answered their calls. Whatever has come after those hunters, then goes after Bobby. It seems the spirits of those that died by the hand of the hunters are returning for their revenge. Dean even gets a visit from someone in his past, Meg. She yells at him for not saving her.

Meanwhile, Sam tries to save Bobby. He does, and they find Dean as well. The three head back to Bobby’s place, where Dean tells the other two about a mark he saw on Meg’s hand. Sam saw the same mark, and he can even draw it for Bobby. He recognizes it before grabbing a few books and taking the Winchester boys down into a ghost proofed panic room. He says the mark is the mark of the witness, and it is talked about in the Book of Revelations. This means it is one of the signs of the apocalypse. Bobby finds a spell to send the spirits back to their graves, but they need to be over an open flame to do it. They have to do it quickly to avoid the spirits after them.

The spirits keep coming, and the spirit of Agent Hendricksen almost gets Dean. The brothers need to keep the spirits away while Bobby works on the spell. Meg almost gets Bobby, but Dean is able to complete the spell. The angel returns to talk to Dean again. Dean has a few words for the angel. The angel tells Dean the person behind everything is Lilith. She is setting everything in motion to free Lucifer. The more the two talk, the angel warns Dean to respect him or he will end up back in hell.

This week, we are just further developing the plot began last week. We are learning the boys might end up saving the world from the coming of the devil on earth. This series is getting better each week. What did you think of this week’s episode?

Review: Grey’s Anatomy Season 5 Premiere

01.jpg

TV.com: Dream a Little Dream of Me - A new Doctor comes to the hospital and starts to work there.

-

Review: Grey’s Anatomy might not have had the best season last year, and it appears they head straight forward to improve it. The hospital is ranked the number twelve teaching hospital.  They were at number two. Meredith keeps having a dream where Derek dies, Lexie wants George and she finds out he once slept with her sister. While the team waits for a trauma to come, a group of women come in with their limo driver that flew the windshield on the group’s way to a ball. The women all have minor injuries, but the driver ends up dying.

A call comes through, and it turns out the husbands that go with the three women have also ended up in a wreck of their own. The team diverts them to Seattle Grace. This is where things get complicated. One of the wives is having an affair with one of the other men. She is cheating on both her own husband and her best friend. One man might not walk again, another has a pen in a throat courtesy of a new arrival to the hospital, a military surgeon that just came in from Iraq on leave. He comes to Seattle Grace and jumps in right from the beginning, and you can see he intriques Cristina right away.

The team is working on all their various patients. The affair is making Meredith question her plan to move in with Derek, even after she asks him. In surgery, Rose gives Derek problem after problem, and this is on top of the problems they have with the patients, even problems with medical insurance. This episode has a lot going on both with the patients and the staff. Cristina tells Meredith that her moving in with Derek would be a big mistake. She says this just before slipping and falling on some ice. This is followed by a large piece of ice falling and piercing her stomach.

The military doctor and Meredith take care of Cristina, while the rest of the team takes the advice of this same military doctor on the paralyzed patient. They are going to freeze him, against Derek’s advice. The one man is frozen, but there is complications. Hahn calms Torres down, and we can see these two building towards something. Meanwhile, the cheating wife tells her friend about the affair. This sends the woman into anger. The husband asks for forgiveness Soon another of the men dies which sends the chief over the edge as he lashes out at Meredith.

By the end of the episode, we see Major Hunt offered a job at the hospital just before he kisses Cristina. This one might definitely heat things up. Rose changes jobs after she stabs Derek’s hand during a surgery. This episode bounces back and forth so much, but in the chaos I see the series I fell in love with season one and two. The series we lost last season. Derek moves in with Meredith. We have a brief appearance from Denny, who actually talks to Izzie this time, even if it was in some kind of dream. This one moment brought me to tears. I’m excited to see this series return to its former glory, and it looks like we might be on the way to seeing it do just that. We just need to wait two weeks for another new episode. What did you think of tonight’s fifth season premiere?

Review: Ugly Betty Episode 3-1

ub1.jpg

TV.com: The Manhattan Project - Will Betty choose Henry or Gio? Will Tony Diaz choose Hilda or his wife? And will Alexis choose Daniel or Wilhelmina to run Mode? There are many choices to be made when Ugly Betty returns for a new season.

-

Review: Last season, we were left with some cliffhangers when it came to Ugly Betty. Betty needed to choose to marry Henry or go to Rome with Gio. The hot coach needed to choose between Hilda and his wife and we all needed to know what would happen with Daniel’s new son and the future of Mode. With Rebecca Romijn taking a step back from her role as Alexis and now waiting to give birth to twins, this decision will probably be the first and fastest made. Have you seen Rebecca Romin lately? She is as big as a house.

However, we learn that Betty has made some decisions about her life. She turned down both men, and then went on a trip across the country.  We start the season with her return. She has some plans for her life, including moving into an apartment in the city. Her father is working at a burger joint with a former classmate of Betty. This doesn’t look good for Betty’s dad. There have also been changes at Mode.

Wilhemina has taken over Mode magazine, turned Daniel’s office into a nursery, and sent Daniel down to Player Magazine, which is the 3rd best selling men’s magazine in the country, and the magazine is totally different than Mode. As for Mode, Alexis decides to cut them off and to focus on Hot Flash. This sets a plan by Wilhemina into motion. Meanwhile, Betty goes to get her first apartment. She rents one sight unseen, and this is one big mistake. The apartment is a mess.

We next see the happenings at the two magazines. Wilhemina finds a way to dig Hot Flash a hole by taking Alexia on Regis & Kelly, and at Player Betty’s first big task is the biker babes of Player. One is scared off, and Betty decides to take her place. Another mistake. She ends up in a vat of some red liquid. After this happens, she goes back to her apartment to wait for some work to be done. However, the handy man never shows.

This isn’t the only problem though. Hilda calls Betty, and they find Betty’s old high school bully working at their dad’s job. They end up in a fight that gets Betty’s dad fired. Betty returns home, and her father helps her realize she is on the right path, even if it isn’t easy. Growing up isn’t easy. The next day Betty goes to the burger joint to apologize to Kimmie. The two talk and work things out. She even gives her dad his job back. A little bit of work by the family, a talk between the two Daniel’s and all is well in Mahattan this week. What did you think of the return of Ugly Betty?
