Twenty-two years ago, a group out of Boston hit the scene that won the hearts of teen girls around the world. Back then, the group was known as New Kids On The Block. Individually, the group consists of brothers Jon and Jordan Knight, Danny Wood, Donnie Wahlberg and Joe McIntyre. Since the group, the five have gone on with their lives, even find success of their own with acting and singing.
New Kids On The Block were the brain child of Maurice Starr, who was also behind New Edition. They released several albums before the group broke up in 1994. Not all was well after the group parted ways, and a reunion never seemed to be in the cards. It had been brought up on more than one occasion, but I don’t think many fans of New Kids On The Block saw the group back together.
However, NKOTB has decided to make a comeback. A bit older. A bit wiser. Same music with an older vibe. Their new release will hit store shelves on Tuesday. The Block has seventeen song, a duet with New Edition, and just by looking at the tracklisting and some of the titles, I’m scratching my head a little. Reviews don’t seem to be favoring this release much, but I know fans of the group will at least go out and buy this new effort.
Growing up, I was a fan of New Kids On The Block. I bought all the albums. I even remembering having t-shirts and water bottles. Every girl had their favorite guy, and thanks to New Kids On The Block, we had groups like Backstreet Boys & *Nsync find success in the 1990s. BSB is still around today, but I am not holding my breath for an *Nsync reunion. Of course, no one was holding their breath on this reunion either. With the new 90210 ready to start up as soon as the Labor Day holiday is done, the cast has been out and about promoting the series. The most vocal member of the cast has been Shannen Doherty who is returning to the zip code for four episodes as Brenda Walsh. The actress has spoken out about her past on the series and spoken out against some big names in the business today.
On Beverly Hills 90210, Shannen played the bad girl, and there are stories of fights on set with her co-star Jennie Garth. She has come out to deny the rumors, and she has even gone so far as to call Tori Spelling a liar. As for her message to Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, she says they get what they deserve for flashing the press without any underwear on! I think she may have a point there.
That is the news today everyone! On the hit series, Californication Duchovny plays Hank Moody, who many might call a sex addict. How many people did he sleep with during season one? Well, now life is in a very big way imitating art. The actor released a statement Thursday that he is going into rehab for sex addiction.
This is a shock, and it reminds you that addictions can come in many forms. The actor is married to actress Tea Leoni, and they have two children together. Duchovny was last seen the big screen in The X-Files 2, which was a big screen flop. If more movies are made, it is said they would more than likely go straight to DVD. Californication returns to Showtime on September 28.
This is what the word is this week. Mario Lopez met dancer Karina Smirnoff when he appeared as her dance partner on Dancing With The Stars. Their romance began there, and it continued on for nearly eighteen months before they split just before the summer months began. This gave him time to be chosen by People magazine as their hottest bachelor.
Now the two have been spotted out to dinner in New York City, and it is said they looked friendly, cuddling and kissing. These two I have always thought made a great couple, and it is good to see them back together again. That is if these rumors are true. Karina Smirnoff will be seen on Dancing With The Stars 7 when it returns in September with her partner Rocco DiSpirito, celebrity chef.
Matthew McConaughey’s mom is opening up and telling all about her son in a new book. One little tidbit the mom has come clean about is the way her husband died. Apparently, he died during sex with her, and she says that was the best way for him to go. Matthew even says when he dies that is how he wants to meet his end. At least he would die with a smile on his face.
In other news, reports this weekend that country singer Dolly Parton had passed on after suffering congestive heart failure. The singer is laughing over these rumors, and she is still very much alive and well!
They have called the Twilight cast back to the set to shoot even more scenes for the film set for release in November. These aren’t reshoots, but entirely new scenes meant to spice up the movie according to Peter Facinelli, one of the stars of the movie. These shoots will not change things as far as the day of the film’s release. That date was moved up a couple of weeks ago when Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince was pushed back to a July release date.
In Star Trek news, JJ Abrams has now made it clear that the original Captain James T. Kirk will not make an appearance in this next Star Trek movie. William Shatner will not be joining Nimoy as was once rumored. The film is still being worked on, and Abrams says the final cut of the movie is only weeks away. Star Trek XI stars Zoe Saldana, Eric Bana, Chris Pine and a many others. It will be released on May 8, 2009.
Cinematical has some new Harry Potter images for fans still upset over the delay of the movie’s release. The movie will hit the big screen in July 2009, but for now fans have the new 2009 calendar to hold them over with images from Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince. Check them out here below! The Toy Story 3-D project seems to be moving forward. A few days ago we had the poster for the new animated feature, which appears to be set for a release sometime in 2010. Now we have news of an additional voice added to the mix of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. Michael Keaton will add his voice to Ken. Barbie made a brief appearance in Toy Story 2, and now Barbie and Ken will play a bigger part in the action. The plot as it is now has the toys given up when their owner goes off to college. This leads them on an all new adventure.
In other news, Vin Diesel is hot news this week. With his next film, Babylon A.D., hitting theaters Friday, and the new trailer for Fast & Furious available now, the man is hot. He talks about becoming a father, and some future projects he has in mind. We already heard about him wanting to make a prequel to this new Fast & Furious movie covering the period between the first film and this one for his character and Michelle Rodriguez’s character as well. Now he is talking about making two more movies for his Riddick character. The Chronicles of Riddick was disappointing at the box office, but two sequels that were planned years ago still might be made. Diesel spoke about this to MTV, so we will have to wait and see.
