Celebrity Today Movie Report For July 28

Published by Regina Avalos at 8:51 am under Celebrity News, DVD, Movies, Music Edit This

Another weekend has ended, and this means it is time to talk about this past weekend’s box office, and take a quick look ahead to what is coming out this week. The X-Files: I Want To Believe was this weekend’s big release, and many were wondering just how it would do against last week’s big release. Well, it didn’t do well at all. In fact, it came in fourth place with just a little over $10 million in estimated earnings at the box office. The Dark Knight topped the box office again by earning an estimated $75 million.

This makes The Dark Knight the highest second week earner, and in fact The Dark Knight is getting ready to set another record for passing the $300 million mark in just about ten days. This will make The Dark Knight the top earning movie release for 2008, and if it continues at this rate it might make another record and beat Star Wars IV: A New Hope. Yes, Batman might beat out Darth Vader, the former Dark Knight. Titanic is the only other movie to make even more than Star Wars at $600 million, and I am starting to wonder if this movie can even make that much. There really does seem to be nothing that can stop The Dark Knight.

This week I predict The Dark Knight to stay on top once again. Two major movie releases occur this week. Swing Vote and the next movie in the Mummy series, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. This Mummy movie brings in Maria Bello to replace Rachel Weisz. This one has a slim chance of topping The Dark Knight, but it remains to be seen just which movie will take The Dark Knight from the top of the charts.

Other releases on DVD this week including The Rolling Stone’s Shine A Light, Doomsday, Never Back Down and the complete fifth season of Beverly Hills 90210. On CD, we have new releases from country duo Sugarland and Rick Springfield. Yes, you heard right. Rick Springfield has a new one coming out, and he is even back on General Hospital, where he will even perform his new single this week. Might want to tune in and catch that. Word has it that he should be appearing to do just that on Tuesday!

What do you think of how well The Dark Knight is doing and this week’s new releases? Check after the jump for a full list.

The Rocker looks like it is going to be really funny and I think I read a good review about it already.
