Celebrity Today Movie Report For July 21
It is Monday morning, and this means it is time for me to once again take a look at the movies. The Dark Knight dominates all this week, and that is no huge surprise. In its first weekend of release, it has earned $200 million worldwide. Just in the United States alone, The Dark Knight made $158 million, and it has toppled the last movie on top of the heap, Spiderman 3. We knew this movie would do well when just in its midnight showings, the movie earned over $18 million. In its first full day of release it earned $60 million.
This movie was destined to be big from the beginning, but it was catapulted to even greater heights following the death of Heath Ledger, the man behind the Joker. His performance in this film surpassed anything I ever expected, and he stood out the most. This movie was great though, and I know it lived up to my expectations for it. If you haven’t yet seen the movie, or you have and you want to share your thoughts on it, check out my review here .
As for the week ahead, we see the return of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson to the big screen as we have The X-Files: I Want To Believe hit theaters. This movie has had a lot of hype, but not as much as some of the other big names released this summer already. Will this movie be able to topple The Joker and Batman from the top of the movie heap this weekend? My prediction for this is no.
The X-files is a fan favorite, but with The Dark Knight’s earnings just this one weekend, if it even makes a third of what it made this weekend next, there is no way any movie is going to come in and beat it at the box office. The Dark Knight is the movie everyone has been waiting for, but X-Files fans will also come out to support its return to the big screen as well. We will have to wait and see just how well it does.
Other releases this week include the release of 21 and the fifth season of Las Vegas on DVD. For fans of Miley Cyrus, her next CD, Breakout, also hits stores this week. She has been all over the next the last month, but not all of the spin is positive. Some people have called her the next Madonna, but I think she has a long way to go before she can even be considered in the same league as Madonna. Check out for a full list of this week’s releases after the jump.
