A Look At - Friday the 13th
It is Sunday morning, and that means it is time for me to take another in depth look at something. The past couple of weeks, I’ve taken a look at the years 2007 and 2008. I will get back to the years and their releases soon enough, but I’ve decided to expand this topic a bit. Their are movies, actors and genres to talk about. Their are even musicians to talk about, books - the possibilities are truly endless. This week, I’ve decided to take a quick look at Friday the 13th. Shock Til You Drop gave us a sneak peek of what the new Jason looks like, and I’m sure we will see even more of this new Jason and the new Friday the 13th at Comic Con next week.
This Friday the 13th is the 11th movie in the series, but it isn’t a continuation. This one plans to take us back to the beginning of it all. It is in a very big way a remake of the original. We last saw Jason Voorhees in Freddy vs. Jason, which was a huge joke. At least to me it was. I love Jason, and I love Freddy. I just didn’t like the two battling it out. Rumors keep flying of the powers behind these monsters wanting to make another movie like this, but this time include Michael Myers. This sounds like a huge train wreck waiting to happen.
Speaking of Michael Myers, he just had his own rebirth in recent years. Rob Zombie remade Halloween. I have not yet managed to see it, but I’ve heard it was a good retelling of the original story. Just darker and scarier. I have it on DVD around here somewhere, so I’m sure I’ll see it soon enough. Growing up, I practically lived off of these horror flicks. Friday the 13th, Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street were so good in the beginning. The first Nightmare on Elm Street gave me nightmares, and the other two series did the same.
As they continued to make more movies, the premise just lost its appeal. Jason X took Jason into the future and into outer space. Come on! Who really wants to see Jason on a space ship? There are some out there that might not even want to see a new Friday the 13th movie, but it has been made. In fact, all the spin on this movie so far has been negative. People didn’t want to see it made. Is Friday the 13th as a movie a dead premise? Should it have been left alone? After Freddy vs Jason, possibly! That movie just didn’t do well at all, and it made the whole series on both sides a complete joke.
The first two movies of Friday the 13th were by far the best. We see the story of a boy that died because of inattention of camp counselors. We see a mother that wants revenge for his son’s death. A son that isn’t dead. The first movie in the series was released twenty-eight years ago. I was four years old when it first came out. Will I go see this new revival? Not sure. Horror movies aren’t like they used to be. At least not to me! What do you think? Will you be in line to see the new Friday the 13th when it hits theaters on February 13, 2009? Take a look at Jason below.

Thos was a good series. I can’t remember how old I was when it first came out. I agree that Horror movies aren’t like they used to be. I think they were much better, but they used to be a lot more psychological now they are largely blood and gore. At least not to me! What do you think?
