So You Think You Can Dance: The Top Ten

We have finally reached the top ten in this year’s competition. We are at the halfway mark, and this is where things start to change. The judges are no longer deciding who goes home and who stays. That decision is now up to the American public. Your votes make the decision. Anyone can go home at anytime. It is important to vote for your favorites.
This week things were shaken up a bit as Jessica was forced to leave the competition after she was injured. I spoke about that on this blog back on Monday. She broke two ribs, and she fractured another. Doctors told her she had to take a break, but it looks like she will still be on the tour. This brought Comfort back.
However, things are even more interesting as we see new couples starting this week. New couples could lead to some very interesting performances. We will also get to see dancer’s dance solo in their styles. Let’s talk about tonight’s show.
Couple Performances
Courtney and Joshua: Skippin’ by Mario | Hero by Enrique Iglesias
These two have been a part of two of the best couples this season, and together these two were very interesting to watch. Joshua did excellent for his first performance, and Courtney did very well even with how nervous she was during rehearsals. They come together for a rumba in their second performance. This style is full of passion, and their performance nailed it. These two, especially Joshua, were amazing.
Kherington and Mark: Kick Back by Ty England | Canned Heat by Jamiroquai
These two are also a mixing of two good couples. Although some might say out of Kherington & Twitch, Twitch is the better of the two. For their first dance, they end up doing a country two step, which is something new this season. I’m not sure I liked this style though. Too many turns. The judges didn’t totally enjoy it. Nigel said they were out of sorts, and this I would agree with. Jazz is up next for them, and this performance was more fun for them. The judges were just very ho hum about this performance. Was this good enough to keep them in the competition?
Twitch and Comfort: Open Arms by Journey | Forever by Chris Brown
Comfort returns and she has a new partner. These two have similar styles, and they are friends. However, they are put together on a smooth waltz for their first performance. This style and their obvious friendship chemistry might be their downfall though. Comfort still doesn’t impress me. Mary, the resident expert in this style, just didn’t think these two cut it. Twitch was also put down this week. Is this because of his partner? They were lucky for their second performance because they picked something more of their genre for their second performance, and as suspected they did well. The judges couldn’t say anything bad about this performance, and it might be what saves Comfort for another week.
Katee and Will: Sit Down You’re Rocking The Boat (Guys and Dolls) by Sam Harris | Imagine by David Archuleta
Now this might be a perfect match. Will is the best of the men, and Katee is the best girl. This could be magical. Their first performance is a Broadway routine, and from beginning to end I was in love. The judges were too. Nigel even said these two were the first couple tonight to justify their being in top ten. For the second performance, these two were once again amazing. I can see these two in the finale.
Chelsie and Gev: These Arms Of Mine by Otis Redding | The House Is Rockin’ by Brian Setzer
Chelsie might be my favorite of the remain girls, and Gev has done well with Courtney the last few weeks. Their first performance is a contemporary. Sitting here watching this first performance, I was drawn in, and by this point in the night it was my favorite. These two made me feel it, and the judges agreed. They performed jive second, and Gev received some negative comments for his performance, but Chelsie shined here. She outdanced him.
After seeing all the performances, I have strong favorites. Will & Joshua are the best men this year, and Chelsie and Katee top things for me on the side of the women. Comfort shined in her second performance, but is it enough to keep her in the competition? We will find out who American sends home later tonight. I’m thinking we might have seen Kherington for the last time, and as good as he was in previous weeks, this might be the end for Gev.
