A Look At - 2007
2007 may not seem like too long ago, and it really isn’t. When you think of 2007 you think of big movies like Spiderman 3 and Transformers, both are having new movies being made. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is already being filmed, and we all know there is word of not only Spiderman 4 but Spiderman 5 in the future. We just don’t know at this time if Tobey Macquire and Kirsten Dunst will return for the next movie.
Domestically, Spiderman 3 and Transformers came in first and third at the box office with Shrek the Third sitting comfortably in second place. The critics loved the movie about a cooking rat in a fancy kitchen. Ratatouille is an animated feature I even found myself enjoying when I watched it. Animated movies really aren’t just for kids anymore. Features like Finding Nemo and this year’s Wall-E topping the box office only goes to show that adults are going in to see the animated film variety just as much as kids.
As far as television goes for the year of 2007, we had several new arrivals. Pushing Daisies on ABC seemed to bring in the viewers, but according to at least Time’s List of best new series for the year, the majority of them came from cable television including Mad Men from AMC and Flight of the Conchords from HBO.
My favorite of the year is Showtime’s Californication with David Duchovny taking on the role of Hank Moody, a writer who is down on his luck, still in love with ex, trying to raise his daughter the best way he can, and has sex with any woman that will let him. This includes a sixteen year old, who is also the future step-daughter of his ex. This series just released its first season on DVD last month, and we should see season two hitting Showtime in the near future.
So now talk to me. What were your favorites of 2007?

mine are Pushing Daisies, Terminator: Sara Connor Chronicles, Chuck, and Gossip Girl. If I only have to choose one it’s going to be Pushing Daisies.
I haven’t seen Californication but being the TV series junkie that I am, I think I’m gonna have to try it. The last time I’ve seen Duchovny on TV was during his X-Files days and I admit that I miss the man.

Terminator would be 2008 since they released in the Spring. I might have mentioned it in last week’s ‘A Look At’. I’ve not actually caught Pushing Daisies myself even with people telling me I should.

I enjoyed Gossip Girl. It had a huge play up before hand and it did live up to its reputation.

I still haven’t seen Californication but I really should since I love David Duchovny. One of my favorites of the season was Chuck. I starting watching because of my sons, but I loved it just as much if not more than them.

Pushing Daisies is a very cute show, I am glad they are giving it longer to find an audience, since it would have done better if not for the writers strike. Californication was good too, although I am biased because personally I would watch David Duchovny if he was ironing shirts. (Is that creepy?)
I love Conchords HBO special, but found their cable show boring.
I am totally annoyed that The 4400 was canceled, as I think the network owed the fans at least a 2hour movie wrapping up the story first.
2007 Was a lame season in general (Remember Viva Laughlin and Cavemen– didn’t think so), but if I have to pick…
Dirty Sexy Money and New Amsterdam were are my picks for “Shows-That-Didn’t-Suck”. “Dirty Sexy Money” being trashy and guilty pleasure dreck and “New Amsterdam” with its kind of interesting but not sustainable gimmick.
