Strike Threat Getting Closer

tom_hanks.jpgHere we are only days away from another strike in the entertainment industry. The writer’s strike crippled television and film with a number of television series not even surviving the strike. Bionic Woman and Cane come to mind as shows that disappeared following the strike. Oliver Stone’s, Pinkville, was also put on a back burner because of the strike, and I’m sure there are a number of other projects that were tossed back because of the writer’s strike.

Now the actors are set to go on strike on June 30. Walkouts are possible. Productions will be once again halted just as television shows are going back into production for the fall. Movies have been trying to wrap up things before this June 30 date in hopes of not having problems. Other movies have pushed back production until later in the year just to avoid any strike cause delays. Judd Apatow hopes to start production of his next comedy, Funny People, in September somewhere in Los Angeles.

Another strike would just be horrible for the entertainment industry, especially since we’ve already had one strike this year. Some actors are speaking out and asking for an agreement to be reached. Both the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists are hard at work trying to come to some type of agreement, but it isn’t looking likely. Tom Hanks is the latest big name to ask for an agreement to happen. For now we have to wait and see what happens in the days ahead.

Another strike, just what we need. We already missed out on a lot of shows this past year, now we could have the same problem again. What do the actors want, more money? I have not seen anything yet.

Yep - I’m not into too much TV anyway. I think those who strike need to remember all of those other people who may be affected by their actions. For all those who earn megabucks and want more, there are those who support them and are on low wages as it is.

Ahhhh the SAG strike. The WGA strike was a pain in the toukas professionally and personally for me. The SAG strike is already a pain and I can only imagine how I might be feeling next Tuesday. Fingers crossed.
