This weekend was labeled the weekend for comedy at the theaters. We saw two comic giants go head to head, and one came out clearly victorious. The top spot at the box office this weekend has gone to Get Smart. Steve Carell brought in $39.2 million in ticket sales at the box office. The other release this weekend, The Love Guru, did only a third of that with about $14 million in sales. The Love Guru brought Mike Myers back to live action comedy. Something we had not seen him do since The Cat in the Hat.

This new film had been so hyped in recent weeks, especially with Myers hosting the MTV Movie Awards earlier this month. It was one big flop though. Last week’s number one, The Incredible Hulk, took a big dip in sales and dropped down to third place behind Kung Fu Panda. As far as DVD releases go, The Bucket List came out on top of both the sales and rentals charts for the week ending June 15. Jumper topped the Blu-Ray sales charts in its first week as well, while The Other Boleyn Girl, another new release came in 4th.

For the week ahead, we have two big movies coming to theaters. The next one for Angelina Jolie, Wanted, and animated feature Wall-E. This is all leading up to the July 2 release of Hancock. On DVD, we have the romantic comedy Definitely, Maybe and 10,000 B.C. hitting store shelves. Things are kind of light on the television side of releases to DVD, but the first season of Early Edition is making its way onto DVD. As far as new CD’s, Motley Crue, Nelly and Ne-Yo all have new releases coming out in the week ahead.
