Katherine Heigl Is Ready To Escape
The news out of Hollywood this week is Katherine Heigl is set to both star and produce Escape. This is the story of Carolyn Jessop that fled from the polygamist sect run by Warren Jeffs, and it is based on the book of the same name. Heigl is currently working in Los Angeles on The Ugly Truth with Gerald Butler. Her main job is the ABC television series, Grey’s Anatomy, where she won an Emmy last year.
There will be no back to back win for Heigl though because she didn’t put herself up for nomination this season. She’s also been seen in Knocked Up and 27 Dresses. I think Katherine Heigl is a good choice for this role. In her role on Grey’s Anatomy, she has shown she has a great dramatic presence as Izzie Stevens. This movie should allow her to show that on the big screen, and it will get her away from the romantic comedies she has been doing.
In other movie news, Judd Apatow is moving forward with his next project. When I last mentioned it, we had no title set, but now it looks like we do. Funny People is coming to us from Universal and Columbia Pictures. Eric Bana was mentioned as joining the cast last week, and now we have Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman added to the cast. The flick will also star Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen, and it is set for release on July 31, 2009.
I really like Katherine Heigl. I think she’s an exceptionally talented actress and can’t wait to see what she does with her career. This movie should be an interesting switch for her. A friend of mine out in LA was telling me about how he met her on her 21st birthday and made her blush. She sounds like quite a sweetheart, even in person!
Good to see her branching out into producing. I’ve actually been wanting to read that book ever since I saw the author on Oprah.
Eric Bana??? Ya know anything with Eric Bana sounds GOOD to me!
I loved 27 Dresses — this one sounds interesting, too, and quite different!
I have never watched any of the shows she’s in, so I don’t know Katherine Heigl at all, but I AM excited to see Escape done into a movie! I read that book (in fact, I need to review it on my blog - I forgot about that one) and quite enjoyed it. It’s extremely depressing, but well written.
