The Celebrity Today Movie Report for June 9th

Published by Regina Avalos at 9:18 am under DVD, Movies, Music Edit This

jumper.jpgHello everyone! It’s Monday Morning, and that means it is time for this week’s look at the movies. We had two new movies hit the box office this past weekend, Kung Fu Panda and You Don’t Mess With The Zohan. Well, the panda messed with Zohan, and after a long hard ten round battle, the panda came out on top. It is estimated that Kung Fu Panda made $60 million in box office sales. This beats out the opening number for last week’s top finisher, Sex & The City. The ladies came in fourth place this week with an estimated $21.3 million sales. You Don’t Mess With Zohan earned $40 million in ticket sales, while Indiana Jones 4 stayed in the mix by coming in third. Worldwide, Indy has made $579 million in sales. This Friday two new big movies join the mix to fight it out, The Happening and The Incredible Hulk. With as much promotion The Incredible Hulk as had in recent weeks, this movie should do well at the box office. We’ll have to see what happens as Hulk takes on Kung Fu Panda for the top spot.

As far as DVD releases go, Rambo topped the rental charts for the week ending June 1st, while National Treasure: Book of Secrets remained on top of the sales charts. This week, we have a number of new releases including Jumper and The Other Boleyn Girl. Having seen both films, The Other Boleyn Girl is a strong movie with good performances by Eric Bana, Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman. There has already been talks of a sequel as I mentioned on this blog previously. As for Jumper, imagine if you could go anywhere in the world by just closing your eyes and thinking about it. That is what one man can do in this movie starring Hayden Christensen and Rachel Bilson. It’s a fun movie, but not much substance. I felt as if the casting was a bit off in my opinion. Rachel Bilson just didn’t do much for me in this movie. For television fans, there are several television series also hitting DVD this week. For fans of Lifetime’s Army Wives, the first season of that series hits DVD on Tuesday just in time for the premiere of season two last night. For us 80s kids, the complete series of What’s Happening!! will hit store shelves this week as well.

We loved National Treasure: Book of Secrets - had to buy it the first day it came out. I hope they do a third one!
