Dance Names Top 20

Published by Regina Avalos at 9:26 am under Television Edit This

A few years back, a new series hit Fox, So You Think You Can Dance. At first I thought it would be stupid and it wouldn’t last. The series comes to us from the same people behind American Idol, but instead of looking for America’s best singer, So You Think You Can Dance is looking for America’s best dancer. They will win a prize and a year contract somewhere. At least that is what they have done the past three seasons. Once the series gets into the Vegas round where they begin to weed out the good from the great, that is where the true competition begins. For the past few weeks, we’ve seen the auditions that have taken place around the country, and last night we finally saw those picked to go on fight it out in Vegas for the top twenty spots.

So far, we have seen some amazing dancing, and some great comedy. We’ve seen temper tantrums and men in drag. Personally, I think one of the major problems with both American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance is they show way too many auditions. American Idol goes on for a month, and So You Think You Can Dance has gone on for almost three weeks before we saw the Vegas round. Word has it that American Idol might be doing away with the audition rounds airing on television next year. They would jump straight through and start with Hollywood if that happened. They would only show the auditions in the form of flashbacks. I think if this does happen we will have a stronger show, and if it works for Idol, it will more than likely change with So You Think You Can Dance as well.

In other Fox news, the network has announced its fall premiere schedule for the 2008 - 2009 season. The most notable of the new series hitting Fox in the fall is the new one from JJ Abrams, Fringe. They have been promoting this one heavily, and it looks like it might do well. The series follows an FBI agent looking to uncover the reasons behind unexplained phenomenon. X-Files anyone? That is what this sounds like to me anyway. The only difference here is the main character is a woman. Mulder was the one doing most of the searching in that former Fox series. This show has picked perfect timing though with the X-Files movie this summer.

What do you think of So You Think You Can Dance’s top twenty and their fall line-up? Check out for a full list of this season’s dancers and Fox’s premiere dates under the cut.

I personally am a huge So You Think You Can Dance fan. I love the show and I think the dancers are back and better than ever. And really, as far as auditions go, I think they show a good number of auditions. Not too much at any rate. That’s just my opinion. It’s going to be a great season. I think my favorites are heavily on the guy side, with Mark being one of them. If you saw his solo on Vegas, you definitely know why. It was so good and entertaining.

You think a month of auditions is long for AI? Out here in Sweden each audition area took 2 weeks - it went on FOREVER!!! The first week when 2 girls and 2 guys were cut in the US? That took 5 weeks here. Frustrating doesn’t even begin to cover it. At the current speed I think that you’ll be auditioning next season before this season is finished over here! The irony is that if you’re a fan of the show, you know by now who won anyway. Hard to miss really if you get online at al! LOL

So You Think You Can Dance is awesome!
