Let’s Talk About Girl Power!

kate-beckinsale.jpgIn London on Tuesday, Glamour magazine held its women of the year awards. Many turned out for the night where women from many walks of celebrity life were honored as women of the year by the magazine. For film actress, Kate Beckinsale was given top honors while Hayden Panettiere was named as best newcomer. She is currently seen on NBC’s Heroes which returns in the fall with all new episodes. The series’ season was cut short in December when the writer’s strike came into play. Other women named women of the year include the girl group Spice Girls, Kelly Osbourne, Lily Allen, Kate Moss, Leona Lewis and Annie Lennox. Also on Tuesday, on the opposite side of the world, the women of Hollywood gathered for a dinner for another magazine, Cosmopolitan. Becki Newton of Ugly Betty, Zoe Saldana, and many others gathered for the Fun Fearless Females Dinner. Right now is the right time to be a woman in Hollywood. With Sex & The City beating out Indiana Jones at the box office this past weekend, girl power is certainly in effect.

Another woman making the news this week is Ashley Judd. The forty year old actress spoke at the United Nations this week about human trafficking. This is something the actress has seen for herself first hand with her visits to other parts of the world as a global ambassador for YouthAIDS. Ashley Judd is not often mentioned, but she is known for her work giving back. Many think to Angelina Jolie when it comes to humanitarian efforts, but Ashley has done just as much. Sometimes it is the quieter ones you need to look to more. Speaking of Angelina Jolie though, the trailer for her latest film, Wanted, has hit the net. You can take a look at the trailer here. Wanted hits theaters on June 27th. What do you think?

I’m all for “girl power”, and I support the success of the Sex And The City movie… but, Kelly Osborne???

    Anyway, your blog looks great!

I’ve always respected Ashley Judd for the work she’s done. And you’re very right that she often gets overlooked for the much more high profile do-gooder, Angelina Jolie. No matter what way they do it, thought, its always great seeing people who truly want to make a difference in the world!

Haha Teddy! I was asking myself the same thing when I heard the news.

I agree! It is good to see people trying to help out.

It’s good that women are being acknowledged for the good that they’re doing in this world as opposed to some certain women in Hollywood who are doing their best to make themselves get attention by being trashy.

I think the Trailer looks action packed for Wanted. I hope it’s a good movie and not a flop.
