The Celebrity Today! Movie Report: June 2nd

Published by Regina Avalos at 8:46 am under Celebrity News, DVD, Movies, Music Edit This

theronmovieawards.jpgThis is Monday morning, and here is your look at the week that was and the week ahead in movies. Indiana Jones 4 did not top the box office for a second week in a row. The new ladies on the block came in and topped things as Sex & The City: The Movie came in first at the box office with $55.7 million in ticket sales. This makes the movie the top opener for a TV adaptation beating out Mission Impossible’s $45 million dollar opening.

Indiana Jones 4 came in second place with $46 million in sales, while the other new release this week, The Strangers, came in third with $20.7 million at the box office. Sales have done so well for Sex & The City: The Movie that the director on the project is already calling for a sequel to the film. If the stars are willing to do this all again, he is willing to move forward on the next Sex & The City movie. Will it happen? That is yet to be seen, but I’m crossing my fingers that it will.

Over on the DVD charts, National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets topped both the sales and rentals charts for the week ending May 25th, which is no surprise at all. As for new releases coming to theaters this week, we have Kung Fu Panda and You Don’t Mess With Zohan. On DVD, we have Meet the Spartans, Semi-Pro and The Eye as well as the second seasons of both American Gangster and CHiPs.

In other movie news, the MTV Movie Awards went ahead as scheduled even with the fire affecting the Universal Backlot. Many of Hollywood’s brightest stars were in attendance including Will Smith, Charlize Theron and Megan Fox. It was a star studded affair with awards given in several categories. Host Mike Myers promoted his new movie, The Love Guru, every chance he got, but he also brought back Wayne’s World for a one night special event. Dana Carvey joined him once again as Garth, and this made the night completely worth it. Transformers took home the night’s top honor of Best Movie. Transformers 2 begins production today.

For a complete list of this week’s releases and the winners of the MTV Movie Awards, check under the cut.

My wife called “Sex In the City”. I thought the Indy Jones new movie would still be killing off the newer competition.

No. They are releasing the second season of the television series on DVD, but there was rumors last year about bringing the tv series to the big screen. Not sure whatever happened to that actually.

I see a lot of movies in my future this summer. My kids are excited to see Indy. Maybe I’ll grab a few girlfriends and see SATC.

Can’t wait to see ‘The Love Guru,’ but not for Mike Myers, etc. I want to see Justin Timberlake doing a comedic role–looks like he’s got potential!

I’m not surprised Sex and the City beat out Indiana Jones. Girls went with their friends, girls brought their boyfriends. Yet I still haven’t seen it lol.
