Sex Returns To The City

sex-and-the-city.jpgLove and friendship.

With Sex & The City those two words go hand in hand. For months now, many fans of the HBO series have been anxiously awaiting the return of Sex & The City on the big screen, and that wait is now officially over. Sex & The City: The Movie marks the return of Carrie Bradshaw and her three best friends to our lives. This time Michael Patrick King directs this film for New Line Cinema. As a fan of the series, I had planned to see this when it came out, and I made my trip to see the first Friday morning showing at my local theater. When I walked in to take my seat minutes before the movie began, I was surprised to see a half full theater. What was even more surprising at 10am in the morning was the number of men I saw in attendance at the feature. Yes, many probably were there with their girlfriends or wives, but they had as much fun seeing this movie as the rest of us did.

It doesn’t seem like ten years ago these four women came into our lives, but it has been that long. Four women living in New York City, all special in their own way, and each one of them living in the city and dealing with the things life decides to throw their way. No matter how bad it gets, they all have each other, and in this movie we see this once again. Even with their own lives crazed, they all managed to be there for each other when needed. No one suffers alone. In this movie, we see Carrie plan her wedding to Big, the man she has been with off and on since the start of the series. We see Sam deal with her own relationship and life as she hits the big 5-0, Charlotte has finally found her fairy tale, and Miranda has to deal with the fact she might have lost hers.

For almost two and a half hours, we are thrown back into the lives of these women, going through the ups and downs with them through a year of their lives. We see laughter and heartbreak, and in the end everything works out okay. In the end, they are where they began. They are with each other. This movie had me laughing and crying. I was worried about the return of this story to the big screen, but I was quite surprised about how well it was handled. Sarah Jessica Parker is wonderful as always as Carrie Bradshaw, and I wouldn’t mind seeing these four return to the big screen again in a couple of years. They still have plenty to tell. Sex & The City: The Movie is one of the best movie experiences I’ve had in a long time. It has something for everyone. Definitely one not to miss, especially for fans of the show. You will not be disappointed!

Thanks for the review. I wasn’t sure if I was going to go see it, but I think on the basis of this, I will!

I liked it, too. The New York Times gave it a really harsh review, I thought it was great.
