The Celebrity Today! Movie Report: May 27th
Now that the holiday weekend is over, here is your weekly look at how last week’s releases did, what is ahead for release this week and the latest in movie news. As suspected, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull came out on top for the weekend. In the US, the movie made $151.1 million in ticket sales, when you include its numbers from its Thursday release day. The latest Narnia sequel, Prince Caspian, slid into second place, and Ironman fell into third place with strong numbers for the holiday weekend. As for DVD sales, Untraceable from Sony Pictures Entertainment came in first in sales for the week ending May 18th. The Great Debaters came in second place. On the rental side of things, Mad Money came in first for its first week of release. It came in fourth in sales.
This week’s releases include the Sex & The City: The Movie hitting the big screen. Fans have been waiting for this one since the series ended. If you can’t wait for your Sex & The City fix until Friday, you can head to your local store today and pick up the movie soundtrack. Over on DVD, we have the latest Rambo feature and the first season of Lipstick Jungle.
In other movie news, Sydney Pollack passed away from cancer at the age of 73 over the holiday weekend. He is an actor, director and producer, and he has worked on several features including Cold Mountain and most recently Made of Honor. He will be missed.

I saw Indiana Jones, and, since my expectations were low, I enjoyed it immensely.
We rented Mad Money. I’m not surprised that it’s doing well on DVD, since it had such a brief time in the box office.
