Ellen Degeneres to Marry
Yesterday, the ban on gay marriage was overturned in the state of California allowing gay couples to marry. There are still opponents to gay marriage fighting for an amendment to be put to a vote in November, but as it stands right now gay couples can now legally marry in the state. One celebrity couple has decided to take the plunge and put that law to some use. Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi have been together and open about their relationship for years now.
Ellen heard about the new state of things in terms of gay rights while taping her show yesterday, and she announced that she would be marrying her girlfriend on air. This episode will be airing today. De Rossi has appeared in series such as Ally McBeal and Nip/Tuck over the years, while Ellen has her own talk show and was also the first to play an open gay lead on her comedy series ten years ago. These two are one of the happiest and most in love looking Hollywood couples, and I am glad to see them putting this new law into use.
