Sex Returns To The City

Published by Regina Avalos under Movies Edit This

sex-and-the-city.jpgLove and friendship.

With Sex & The City those two words go hand in hand. For months now, many fans of the HBO series have been anxiously awaiting the return of Sex & The City on the big screen, and that wait is now officially over. Sex & The City: The Movie marks the return of Carrie Bradshaw and her three best friends to our lives. This time Michael Patrick King directs this film for New Line Cinema. As a fan of the series, I had planned to see this when it came out, and I made my trip to see the first Friday morning showing at my local theater. When I walked in to take my seat minutes before the movie began, I was surprised to see a half full theater. What was even more surprising at 10am in the morning was the number of men I saw in attendance at the feature. Yes, many probably were there with their girlfriends or wives, but they had as much fun seeing this movie as the rest of us did.

It doesn’t seem like ten years ago these four women came into our lives, but it has been that long. Four women living in New York City, all special in their own way, and each one of them living in the city and dealing with the things life decides to throw their way. No matter how bad it gets, they all have each other, and in this movie we see this once again. Even with their own lives crazed, they all managed to be there for each other when needed. No one suffers alone. In this movie, we see Carrie plan her wedding to Big, the man she has been with off and on since the start of the series. We see Sam deal with her own relationship and life as she hits the big 5-0, Charlotte has finally found her fairy tale, and Miranda has to deal with the fact she might have lost hers.

For almost two and a half hours, we are thrown back into the lives of these women, going through the ups and downs with them through a year of their lives. We see laughter and heartbreak, and in the end everything works out okay. In the end, they are where they began. They are with each other. This movie had me laughing and crying. I was worried about the return of this story to the big screen, but I was quite surprised about how well it was handled. Sarah Jessica Parker is wonderful as always as Carrie Bradshaw, and I wouldn’t mind seeing these four return to the big screen again in a couple of years. They still have plenty to tell. Sex & The City: The Movie is one of the best movie experiences I’ve had in a long time. It has something for everyone. Definitely one not to miss, especially for fans of the show. You will not be disappointed!

Indy To Marry Kitty?

firewall0202063.jpgThat is what the rumors have been this week anyway. It is being said that Harrison Ford has finally popped the question to long-time girlfriend, Calista Flockhart. The two have been together for close to six years now, but neither have mentioned marriage. Some are reporting that Harrison popped the question on April Fool’s Day this year, and the two are getting married this summer. However, a representative for the couple has told OK! Magazine that the two are not engaged and have no immediate marriage plans.

This is one time I actually wish the rumors were true. Harrison and Calista are one of those Hollywood couples that try to keep themselves, but every single time I have seen them together, the two just look as happy as can be together. Harrison right now is riding high on the release of Indiana Jones 4, and Calista Flockhart is best known for her role on Ally McBeal, but now she can be seen as Kitty Walker on ABC family Drama, Brothers & Sisters.

In other Hollywood news, yesterday it was reported that Harvey Korman died at the age of 81 from heart complications. He is best known as a comedian and as the sidekick to Carol Burnett on her series The Carol Burnett Show. He is another one that will be missed. Right now, I’m off to try and see the new Sex & The City movie. If all goes well, I will have a full review of the film tomorrow morning! Check back here for that.

Beverly Hills Cop To Return? Please, no!

Published by Regina Avalos under Movies Edit This

batmangotmilk.jpgYes, someone else has decided it is time to revive another old movie franchise and make a new movie in it. This weekend, we had Indiana Jones 4. In the past week, the latest Rambo was released on DVD. There are talks about Spiderman 4 and 5. Although if that happens, we might have someone new playing Spidey. We have a new Incredible Hulk movie out in a few weeks, and how many times have we seen Batman come to the big screen? Forget that for a moment! How many actors have we seen play Batman? Can we say George Clooney’s bat nipples anyone? By the way, Clooney is now single, ladies! Meanwhile, Bale is out with a new Got Milk campaign to promote the release of the Dark Knight. I’m sure there is many more instances of this, but these are off the top of my head. If you can think of more throw them out to me in comments.

It is happening again though. Eddie Murphy wants to bring Beverly Hills Cop back to the big screen. This would be the fourth installment. Beverly Hills Cop 3 was released back in 1994. Now, I’ll be the first to admit, Eddie Murphy is a comic genius. I’ve enjoyed a number of his movies over the years, but he just isn’t doing what he used to. Maybe he has run out of ideas. Why would he want to even do this? Even though I do have to say I enjoyed one return to the big screen when I finally saw Rocky Balboa, the latest to be released in that series, but I’m shaking my head at the rumors of Stallone wanting to move forward with a seventh. That might be pushing it.

Just like reviving Beverly Hills Cop after fifteen years might be really pushing it. Filming will start next year though, and the film will be released in 2010. Brett Ratner is set to direct. Ratner’s name has actually been mentioned today connected to another possible project, God of War. This is a video game, and he might be set to bring it to the big screen. This is according to Cinematical. Ratner is one busy man it seems!

Are you into this trailer?

Published by Regina Avalos under Movies Edit This

sturgessonesheet-2.jpgIt is barely summer, and we’re already looking ahead to the fall releases. Every week we have new trailers for upcoming films hit the web. Several new trailers have hit, and yesterday we had our first look at the new Drew Barrymore movie, He’s Just Not That Into You. This movie has a star studded cast that includes Jennifer Aniston, Justin Long, Scarlett Johansson, and Jennifer Connelly. The movie is set for release on October 24th, and you can view the trailer here .  Another trailer that hit the web yesterday is the trailer for the comedy Choke, which hits theaters on September 26th. The movie stars Sam Rockwell, Anjelica Huston and Kelly McDonald. MTV has released the trailer here!

Not only do we have new trailers, but we’re being teased about a new movie with Jim Sturgess that hasn’t even started production yet!  We last saw Jim Sturgess in The Other Boleyn Girl and 21 this spring. Production on his newest is set to start next month. Heartless is a thriller from Phillip Ridley that follows a young man that has sold his soul to the devil.

Which of these looks good to you?

Comedy Great Passes On

Here in the United States, this is a holiday Monday, a day to remember those that have passed on in the year before and beyond. Over the weekend, Dick Martin from Laugh-In passed away at the age of 86 at his home in Santa Monica. He was surrounded by family at the time. Cause of death was his on-going battle with respiratory problems. Laugh-Inwas a hit in the 1960s. It premiered in 1968, and it launched the careers of Goldie Hawn and Lily Tomlin. For two seasons, fans fell in love with the variety show, and it became a place for celebrities to stop in and join the fun. The series continued on until 1973.

After Laugh-In, Martin moved on to other ventures in television, directing episodes for such hits as In The Heat Of The Night, Family Ties and Newhart. On this Memorial Day, take a moment to remember the ones that have left us. Check back here tomorrow for this week’s movie report. The new releases have one more day to get in those ticket sales, but I think it is safe to say Indy is coming out on top. By what number is yet to be known!

Kate Hudson Kissing Who Now?

hudson.jpgSince her divorce from Black Crowes lead man, Chris Robinson, Kate Hudson has been making the rounds. She had a relationship with You,Me and Dupree co-star, Owen Wilson, has rumored to been dating or at least making out with Justin Timberlake and Heath Ledger before his passing. After going back to Wilson for another brief time in the last month or two, she is now free and single once again. Not for long though. Last weekend, she was seen in Texas with Lance Armstrong. The two looked cosy over dinner. The two have now been seen in Cannes kissing at the D&G party. Is this our latest Hollywood couple? Relationships don’t seem to last long when it comes to Kate these days. In interviews, she says her top priority is her son, Ryder Russell Robinson. The little boy turned four in January. He never leaves her side. She takes him wherever she goes, unless he is spending time with his father. Goldie Hawn, Kate’s mother, said her daughter was doing just fine following her break-up from Owen Wilson, and just days after that Kate was seen out with Armstrong. Talk about quick recovery times. Kate was recently seen on the cover of People Magazine’s Most Beautiful issue, and her latest movie, Fool’s Gold, will be released in June on DVD. Lance Armstrong was once engaged to singer Sheryl Crow.

Get Ready for a Hulk Smash

Published by Regina Avalos under Movies Edit This

incredible-hulk-poster-new-2008.jpgThe summer movie season is now getting underway, and one of the most highly anticipated films is the new The Incredible Hulk hitting the big screen next month. This new release is not a sequel to the The Hulk from 2003 that stared Eric Bana and Jennifer Connelly, but it is an all-new take on the story starring Ed Norton and Liv Tyler. Over the past few months, images and clips have been released, and the more I see from this film the more excited I am to see it when it finally does make its way to the big screen. This take on the story definitely looks a bit darker than the The Hulk from 2003. The Hulk even looks meaner and more menacing. Just in the last couple of days, three sites have released three new clips from the film. You can see the new street fight scene from Yahoo! Movies here . MTV and IGN also released new clips. As much as I loved the 2003 film, I think this one might blow it out of the water. The movie is set for release on June 13th.

Batman To Save The Future

terminator.jpgTerminator movie news has been flying this week. First, it was announced earlier this week that Christian Bale has signed on for the complete new Terminator Trilogy. He is set to star as mankind’s savior from the killer machines who have taken over everything, John Connor. Bale is already a part of one huge movie Franchise as Batman, and this new addition will only send Bale’s star higher up.

News today has it that production has begun on the first film in the trilogy, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. The movie is filming currently in New Mexico, and it has been since May 5th. The movie is set for a May 2009 release, so they are moving forward quickly with production. The only thing that can halt it at this point is a troublesome actor’s strike that might take place. We have to hope for the best that a strike doesn’t happen.

Terminator is huge. It helped launch the movie career of Arnold Schwarzenegger with the first trilogy, and it is also the basis for a television series that aired earlier this year, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. That series stars Lena Headey, Thomas Dekker and Summer Glau. It is set during the time between the second and third films, and it definitely plays with the mythology behind the series. Even with this, the fans have watched, and Fox has renewed the series for a second season. Personally, I can’t wait for the new Terminator trilogy myself. Since the original premiered, I’ve wanted to see the battle of the machines, and we finally get to see that.

Husband of Californication Star Found Dead

oceans13prem46.jpgMartin Kelly, the husband of actress Natascha McElhone, was found dead just outside their home in London. McElhone was in the United States at the time filming, and she is on her way back to London. The couple had just celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary. An autopsy is being done on the forty-two year old plastic surgeon, but it looks like the sudden unexplained death could have been caused by a heart attack.

Another tragic death is also making headlines this morning. The young daughter of Christian singer, Steven Curtis Chapman, Maria Sue, was killed yesterday afternoon in a car accident in the driveway of the family home. The singer’s teenage son hit the young girl. She was rushed to the hospital, but she was unable to be saved. No charges will be filed against the teenager. He says he didn’t see his little sister in the driveway.

Not all in Hollywood is always good news. My thoughts and prayers go out to both of these families in their time of loss.
